I saw them live at a stadium with 50,000 fans back in the '80s, the Steel Wheels tour, when they played this song. 4 rows front and center. I will never forget it for as long as I live. No I Phones back then, so this is as good as it gets.

I saw them in 1975 at Chicago Stadium. I had tickets 13th row, main floor. Amazing. I've seen some great bands in concert including Led Zeppelin, that Stones concert was by far the best. Great music and great show.

Gimme Shelter is a great song, partly because of Merry Clayton’s back-up vocals. When her voice cracks at 2:59 you can hear Mick exclaim "woo!" They also added an instrument called a guiro that produced that melodic scraping sound throughout the song.; 4/7/23, 8:14 AM

Old and slow said...: I saw the Stones in 1982 at Slane Castle north of Dublin. Opening acts were George Thorogood, and The Chieftans. Getting back to Dublin a double decker bus took about 6 hours because of all the traffic on little 2 lane Irish roads. The bus conductor took up a collection as we passed through a little town, and got off the bus to buy cases of beer and bottles of whiskey (we were driving slower than walking pace). Because the sun sets so late in the summer in Ireland, when they set off the fireworks after the show, they used colored arial smoke bombs instead of the usual bright fireworks. Old and slow said...: On the topic of Irish concerts, I also saw The Pretenders, Ian Dury and The Blockheads, and The Undertones in 1981 at the Castlebar Music Festival. It's a litle nothing town in the west of Ireland and there were only about 13,000 people at the show. Ireland was a very different place back in the 1980's...

The next year featured the Boomtown Rats, Thin Lizzy, Madness, Brush Sheils, and Davy Arthur. They lost so much money that there was never another.; 4/7/23, 2:19 PM
