A French feminist phenomenologist finds the female version of the phallus, the male symbol of taking possession

Beyond the classical oppositions of love and hate, liquid and ice - a threshold that is always half-open. The threshold of the lips, which are strangers to dichotomy and oppositions. Gathered one against the other but without any possible suture, at least of a real kind. They do not absorb the world into or through themselves, provided they are not misused and reduced to a means of consumption or consummation. They offer a shape of welcome but do not assimilate, reduce, or swallow up. A sort of doorway to voluptuousness. They are not uselessness, at least as it is usually understood. Strictly speaking, they serve neither conception nor jouissance. Is this the mystery of feminine identity? Of its self-contemplation, of this very strange word of silence? Both the threshold and reception of exchange, the sealed-up secret of wisdom, belief, and faith in all truths.

I read that the charges against Alec Baldwin for killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins have been dropped. Liberal privilege in action, I guess, because he really did arrogantly violate the most basic safety rules for handling guns.

Fox late spring cleaning: Fox News Parts Ways With Weekend Host Dan Bongino

Name something you will never read about Althouse: "Travel blogger trapped in Sudan amid fighting"... He's looking at you, AI.

Can you name the Classic Movie, based on a single frame?

Sunrise over Mt. Mendota.

I worked with a noted phenomenologist and met others. One of my unsuccessful grant proposals was to catalog and arrange the personal and professional papers of some of the older leading lights in the field, and got one of them to help a colleague and myself write the justification. (This is not counting the professional grant-writer in Admin, who knew all the grant ropes.)

We got it back from IMLS with a scathing critique, including the observation that the grant requestors obviously didn't have the slightest clue about Phenomenology.

That was interesting. (And not far off the mark as far as my own clue count.)

Reddit: “BuzzFeed News is shutting down.”

I didn’t even know they were still around.

Cernovich tweet : Reddit has radicalized several mass shooters. Most aren’t aware of this because the “reporters” who rush to blame Facebook or other platforms for crimes live on Reddit and even have anonymous terrorism supporting accounts like this mass shooter. (Louisville Bank Shotter)

Trotsky led an interesting life, but you'd never know it by reading his autobiography. I'm only about a quarter of the way into it, but it's pretty dull so far. As I understand it, he had a pretty active sex life, but it's not mentioned. He does briefly talk about how he met his wife in prison exile and that they got together because of their need to be together to further the revolution. He escaped from Siberia and left her and their two children behind in order to further the Revolution. She helped him escape....He writes about how during his first stay in prison, he wrote about the Freemasons and their place in Marxist dialectics. He was able to reconcile how the Freemasons with all their internal contradictions (Louis XVI and Dr. Gullotin were both Freemasons) were part of the class struggle. I didn't follow his arguments. The book is now lost to posterity. One of his landladies at a place where he was in hiding used it as kindling paper....Maybe later on his book will pick up. For a good portion of his life, Trotsky made his living as a professional writer, but, so far, it's not very interesting. I wonder how his first encounter went with Frida, but I don't suppose that's in the book.

Fox late spring cleaning: Fox News Parts Ways With Weekend Host Dan Bongino.

Bongino is awful, but he didn't cost Murdoch $787.5 million. It would also be good if he disappeared from Rush's old time slot on Cumulus Media's Westwood One radio.

While we are at it, stations that continue to carry Premier Networks feed get Travis Clay and Buck Sexton but the show also needs a real conservative host. Pretending to be the real Rush Limbaugh doesn't cut it.

@gadfly. Where are the liberal radio hosts? Are there any? I ask this sincerity.

I have a few conservatives that I listened to. Clay and Buck for two. But Jesse Kelly is by far the best. 7-10 in the evening on iHeart*. He won't last much longer though as he going after the sacred cows with reckless abandon.

* iHeart radio is the pits. It's free, but the commercials are endless .... and they repeat and repeat and repeat. Did I say repeat? Why yes I did.

Did you intentionally frame the picture that way? Because the surrounding foliage makes a nearly complete heart.

Trump should sue everybody in the media and the politicians who defamed him. He should get at least $787.5 million for defamation.

At my high school, two of the more woke teachers still wear masks every day. They're buddies so they reinforce each other's wokeness. About 10% of the kids still wear masks. Some of them are introverts, but some use the mask to hide their identity.

It'll be interesting to see what the district's policy next school year is.

It's kind of amazing, but the second most vocal woman supporting the integrity of women's sports (behind Gaines) is Caitlyn Jenner, who's actually a man.

Thank you for the link, William. I've been wondering if this grant proposal would ever see the light of day.

I spent my career writing proposals to NIH. Chilling to see one responsible for the death of millions and the disruption of virtually everyone's life who lives on this planet.

We have to stop this type of research. I don't know how we do this, but a good start would be for these fuckers to spend the rest of their lives rotting in jail. Deterrence.

gadfly, I'd vote for Mark Steyn myself. But he's recovering from a brace of heart attacks, and already has too many irons in the fire. He was an increasingly frequent guest host for Limbaugh near the end, but has said that three hours a day, five days a week is a schedule he couldn't hope to hold to as a long-term proposition. I dunno -- what he's doing now is IMO comparable. But, see, he'd have to give most of that up.

Althouse, that photo is a stunner. Colors, composition, & all.
