Following up on the ChatGPT Althouse test and comments in the previous thread:

It's not clear that Althouse's own style is sufficiently distinctive to be recognizably reproduced by AI, though of course in its current version(s) it is too clunky to pass and Althouse herself can easily spot where it's off.

Though it's not a matter of style, one of the things Althouse does distinctively well is detailed fisking of absurd proclamations, deceptive articles, and general bad-faith BS. I would be very curious to see how well ChatGPT does on a task like that, even if the voice is still awkward, and even leaving Althouse herself out of it.

Beautiful. I had the first dandelions of the season spring up in my yard here today. They are considered weeds here and everyone uses chemicals to get rid of them, but others like me use them as leaves for a salad. The local Amish community uses dandelions to make a really good wine.

I enjoy humor. And I pay for a subscription to gocomic so I get emailed my favorite daily strips.

And, if you're on acenook, you can follow https://www.facebook.com/ashleyottesenxp/ for absolutely free. I randomly click on a Facebook reel, and there's some really good humor hidden among the people who post them. Also this one: https://www.facebook.com/tanee.lynn.3 My wife and I differ on her, YMMV.

And a quick kids type joke I laughed at the other day: Why don't farts ever finish school? They get expelled....

If you don't have a snese of humor and never laugh- I suggest you apply for a job in an HR department. All employees in those departments seem to be sorely lacking in one.

A long and frightening video of a presentation put together by researchers into AI.

"I just want the audience to know that we are staring into the face of tyranny, that the Democrat Party is a totalitarian party.”

And indeed, it is. To recognize this, we need only to listen when Democrats tell us – repeatedly – of their burning desire to “transform” the U.S."

Maybe too many "Cheers" scripts got into the ChatGPT training diet and it ended up being inordinately fond of Cliff Clavin.

How fucking hard is it to know the difference between 'lose' and 'loose' in written English?

How about 'affect' and 'effect'?

Sure, it can be a bit confusing, but all you have to do is learn it once and you will never make the same mistake.

I am tired of reading things from professional writers who cannot spell these words correctly in context.

Finally watched the DeSantis transthlete (say that five times fast) commercial. Pretty good, and a sign that mockery and derision help win culture wars.

I've read the ChatGPT samples submitted by commenters in recent threads (assuming their genuineness as offered), and its obvious that it doesn't understand the Prof's prose style because it doesn't understand the concept of style, the Ding an sich.

Still at the phrase-juggling stage IMHO.

Tucker Carlson Plagiarizes Woody Harrelson's SNL Opening Monologue

While the media would love to cast it in that light, it can't, because it's a trap.

I love traps. Call me when GPT learns how to lay a trap.

so, yesterday i was listening to NPR; and they were talking about the shootings down in Alabama.
And their take on it was (and, i am NOT making this up):
a) This happened in a small town..
b) This MEANS, that it could happen ANYWHERE..
c) Since it could happen ANYWHERE.. It could happen to ANYONE
d) WE ARE ALL AT RISK
e) we are at the SAME level of risk

Which, if you Think about it.. IS TOTALLY true..
demographically there was NOTHING about that Alabama town that made it ANY different from a town in Iowa
As Long as that town in Iowa was Waterloo

Finally.. I Just want to say, BLACK LIVES MATTER
even when they are terminated by other black people

One way of capturing the danger a... Superior Intelligence... "artificial" is by asking the question 'how do we treat animals?'. Would an AI treat us the way we treat animals? If the answer is no, why not?

If the answer is yes, then we need to do something to make sure that doesn't happen.

Just read the RealClearPolitics summary of Vivek Ramaswamy on CNN with Poppy Lemon.
My God, I love this man. Will he get the R nomination, no. Will he break 1% in the primaries, no.
But a smart, financially successful, great family, non-white conservative who can debate and kick ass....that rocks. I have a political hard-on right now. Where is Laslo?

Dandelion Wine was a lovely, very Bradbury-esque Ray Bradbury book. I loved his style. I know it's not for everyone.

I also loved Tom Robbins.

Maybe it shows - give me a bunch of adjectives and I'm happy!

LOL! Carlson will talk to anyone, dead or alive, as long as it is not under oath - now that Rupert is back in Tucker's good graces.

And Dave, JFK, Jr. - first called "John-John," lost his bearings and died while piloting his light plane over the Atlantic in 1999.

While Obama weaponized the IRS against conservatives, including the Tea Party, Methhead Hunter, who is helping Daddy sell us out to China and Ukraine is being protected. Must be great to be a Progressive in America today, where laws don't apply to you, and YOU get special treatment that normal Americans don't have at all.

anyone want to explain this one to me?
Biden to hike payments for good-credit homebuyers to subsidize high-risk mortgages
Homebuyers with good credit scores will soon encounter a costly surprise: a new federal rule forcing them to pay higher mortgage rates and fees to subsidize people with riskier credit ratings who are also in the market to buy houses.

The fee changes will go into effect May 1 as part of the Federal Housing Finance Agency’s push for affordable housing, and they will affect mortgages originating at private banks across the country. The federally backed home mortgage companies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will enact the loan-level price adjustments, or LLPAs.

Mortgage industry specialists say homebuyers with credit scores of 680 or higher will pay, for example, about $40 per month more on a home loan of $400,000. Homebuyers who make down payments of 15% to 20% will get socked with the largest fees.

Apparently, not enough sub prime borrowers are buying homes, which the Biden admin wants to change.
I guess they noticed, that 2008 was the last time people liked democrats, so they want another crash?

Biden won’t be the D nominee. I don’t think he’s even going to run, despite his saying he intends to do so. The powers that be need the time to figure out who to push forward that could plausibly win by ballot harvesting. Their bench is not in great shape - no nationally known centrist prospect.

Just watched the intro to a senate hearing chaired by the latest statesman from Pennsylvania. That would be John Fetterman. The hearing was replete with finger painting, flash cards and a lesson in reading by phonetics.

At a house hearing yesterday, Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) responded to comments made by Eric Swallwell (D-CCP Useful Idiot) by saying: "That was quite entertaining from someone that had a sexual relationship with a Chinese spy. And everyone knows it!".

Dan Goldman (D-Lib Bag Carrier) rushed to his defense and requested that her comments be stricken from the record. Apparently Mr. Goldman forgot who is in the majority. The comments remained in the record.

The word misuse stupidity that bothers me most, and absolutely astonishes me, is woman / women. I see this all the time recently. There are many people who don't seem to know the difference between singular and plural. At first I assumed that I was the idiot and this was some new usage like they/them, but no, it just looks to be stupidity. Do schools teach ANYTHING these days?

@Rusty, which have we had too much of the most between the Kennedys, Biden’s, and Trump? We have until early November 2024 to figure it out!
