And here's the insane "Morning Joe" appearance from 2013 that he talks about (in which Mika Brzezinski acts like a complete idiot):

Evergreen, as Taranto would say. She and he were in the box at a Red Sox fame with me one time. Imagine the idiocy with some extreme obnoxiousness of celebrity. It was disturbing…

NOBODY promoted Trump more than Morning Joe in 2015. Joe and Mika LOVED having him on. Boosted ratings I'm sure. They even stalked him showing up at Mara Lago uninvited.

How about the douchebag who says to Brand "I can't understand you".

Mika's behavior is no surprise. When people are confronted with the truth, when they are in on constant lies they either shut down, squirm, or double down and react with anger.

See Anthony Fauci responding to Rand Paul.

Tucker played a long excerpt last night from his interview with Brand, in which the comedian was dressed exactly like the first photo in your post. Peace love and truth are the values he aspires to demonstrate now so he has nothing in common with politically driven people. Let's face it, politically driven people are the most pernicious destructive America-hating minority we can categorize. No other minority holds such outsize power in our system. The rest of us have normal feelings.

That was incredible. Brand was absolutely right when he told Mika you're talking about me as I weren't here and as if I were an alien. I can't remember anything more unprofessional, but I don't watch TV anymore... perhaps this behavior was typical? Surely not?

That being said, I have quite a bit of disagreement with Brand. He's far too anarchistic and mystical for me. I do find him to be intellectually challenging and interesting. But we do agree on the basics, freedom of information and rule by the people.

I consider it to be a good day when I have time to watch a Brand podcast, followed by either Dave Rubin, or Jordan Peterson, or Joe Rogan...

And to prove Brand's point in the newer video, none of these people are supported by, and rarely allowed on, the MSM. The closest thing to them on the MSM is Gutfeld and look how popular he is. Yet none of the competitors are even trying to compete for the Gutfeld viewers. You don't think Joe Rogan could draw viewers on Late Night television? He could be what The Late Late Show used to be. It will never happen.

It's NOT because Raytheon wants US to!

People who like to talk about and participate in politics are a tribe.

They can't understand people who are not interested in politics. They call them things like "Low Information Voters" and belittle them for not voting.

This is why Republicans and Democrats all hate Donald Trump.

They hate Trump because he is bringing more people into the political sphere by representing large swaths of the population that is not represented by Republicans or Democrats.

It is more fun for people in the political tribe to belittle people on the outside than it is to engage them.

And, I would add, hate their voters too. At minimum they have great disdain for voters. Thank God Mitch was motivated by something to appoint judges during Trump's first term, it certainly was not because the R base wanted it. Must be some inside baseball reasoning or SCOTUS was his fig leaf to keep us from revolting. I just don't know anymore. When Russel Brand and Glen Greenwald are the voices of sanity things have definitely taken a turn.

Readering said...

Did not watch 10 year old Mika but Brand is carrying forward a line of argument since the Cold War in the sixties. Or earlier. I was very opposed to the Iraq War, but do not believe it was the product of defense industry lobbying for weapons purchases. I support support for Ukraine's resistance to Russia but not for any reason in Brand's monologue. The defense industry does not like relatively low tech wars like Iraq and Ukraine. It prefers high tech spending to meet future threats.

Of course he's right about MSNBC --and CNN--being for Trump before they were against him.

There is no one in politics or anywhere who are free from the temptations we all face. To HATE someone for the human failings you list is rather extreme, much more extreme than any political opinion could be. You are essentially hating Trump for having human qualities, ones that I assert every single politician has in some measure. In fact we all do.

So do you direct this hate at people in general or just Trump? How do you feel about Biden? About yourself?

Yes. It's very obvious. American women predictably and routinely go weak in the knees for a British accent, and also for men with long hair. Brand leaves a strong impression..."a bad boy who doesn't play by the rules?" Many women can't resist that either.

Trump's schtick is that he fights the globalists and their media tools.

You are talking about a group of people that is besotted with the beautiful people and has spent their whole life reading the New York media. This group of mostly women is so afraid of being cast out by the elites and the intellectual class they will recoil from anyone that fights.

The problem isn't Trump. It is the class consciousness of people that would rather kneel and be accepted than fight against an obvious corrupt elite political class.

Only someone with a very high disagreeable rating is going to be able to do what needs to be done.

The only way Trump could make people like you and Ann happy is to be a disingenuous liar like all the other politicians that tell you what you want to hear and betray you at first chance.

Mika could not stop touching her hair. She was also looking away and smiling while doing that lean out.

What was interesting to me was watching the other woman decide if she needed to compete with Mika for Russel's attention.

Russel also made it obvious he thought the other 3 people were not worth paying attention to. Treating a woman like Mika like she is pathetic and below your required level of attractiveness is a good way to get someone like Mika to want to be with you. It is a daddy issue thing which most leftist women have.

It would be a good video to teach man how to determine if they should ask a girl out. If she wears panties she had to change them after this set.

Part of the draw of being in a political tribe is looking down on people not in the tribe.

You always have a group of people around you that will affirm you as long as you hate the right people.

This is why Ann will not currently be able to support Trump. She needs the affirmation of people that will cast her out if she doesn't hate him and the icky people that support him. They are all working/poor/middle class.

Nobody in the New York media can stomach someone that doesn't treat these low lifes with scorn and contempt.

MSNBC and CNN were part of the Hillary "pied piper" strategy whereby the media would pump Trump up thinking he would be the weakest candidate against Hillary. Of course, Trump's populist appeal is what got him over the line in the midwest states....including a midwest state where Hillary was so overconfident she decided she didn't even need to campaign there.

So, in summary: readering is lying about MSNBC & CNN ever being "for" Trump.

Brand's statements would sound more profound if he slowed down the wpm. I'm not so certain about Edward Snowden's bonafides as Brand. There's a lot about Snowden's story that doesn't add up. Assange and Manning seem more flaky than altruistic....In any event, Brand is a victim of the altruistic fallacy. There seems to be some kind of belief that when people act altruistically they are acting on behalf of humanity. Conversely, when they act of behalf of money they are acting against the best interests of humanity....That's wrong. The Bolsheviks and Maoists were all convinced that they were killing just the right people who needed killing and that they were the heralds of a new dawn for humanity. They sacrified wealth and comfort in their personal lives in order to kill millions.....Then there's the Pfizer executives. They were, I suppose, primarily motivated to make money for Pfizer but along the way they developed a vaccine that--whatever its faults--has saved millions. And ponder the Pfizer Riser, Viagra, that has done so much to spread love and joy among our older citizens....A man is seldom so perniciously occupied as when he is inflicting Utopia on his fellow citizens. Conversely, as Dr. Johnson would say, a man is seldom so harmlessly occupied as when he is pursuing money.

The New Statesman has an article about their sometime contributor Russell Brand

Comment
7 March 2023
We have lost Russell Brand
This once-sexy communist has become an American culture wars pundit.

By Finn McRedmond

Russell Brand can’t make up his mind. Speaking on the comedian Bill Maher’s talk show last weekend, Brand launched into a tinny rant that encompassed every right-wing signalling trope: the ghoulish mainstream media, the dishonest and untrustworthy pharmaceutical industry, the West’s shameful treatment of Julian Assange and “American hero” Edward Snowden, and the Covid drug Ivermectin. He then pivoted leftwards, and rounded off his angry sermon with an endorsement for, erm, Bernie Sanders. ...

That's all I got without subscribing. I wasn't aware that Assange and Snowden were right-wing heroes, but it looks like the NS isn't willing to each issue separately and decide each on their own merits.

Everyone seems to think that Brand and (especially) Rock were great with all the yelling. So I’m sure I’m a weirdo for not loving this full scream sorta thing-y.

He's flirting with Mika and simultaneously bored with Mika. It's interesting watching him because his mind is fast and he's bored with the conversation. So he simply reverts to humor mode and lightly mocks and teases them and essentially says nothing.

I've seen Brand give wildly different videos. Here he is talking slowly and calmly and no humor whatsoever. It's about abortion so he's incredibly serious, solemn and sensitive in this clip.

And as others have mentioned, here's his Tucker interview.

It's fast-paced and kind of manic. But his words are deeply felt and I had the same reaction as Tucker had. There is some genuine wisdom in what he's saying.

Brand is a performer and these are wildly different in tone and style. But I never get the sense that he's fake or fraudulent. He's rambunctious in one interview (Mika and friends), rambunctious and intense in another interview (Tucker) and intense and quiet in the third interview (Amanda Palmer).

He's funny and likes to be funny, obviously super-intelligent, and genuinely curious about other people. He's also fucked up a lot of things in his life, and he knows it, so he's got a great sort of humility and honesty.

"'Vote Trump, he is like all the others!' is a lousy campaign slogan."

Ahhh, did RR think moving those goal posts would be effective. The topic was that you HATE!!!!! Trump. Or do you "hate" 90 percent of politicians?

The point you’re not hearing or reading Achilles is that Trump’s name has been poisoned the last 7 years so badly that millions of weak women and others will never vote for him. That is a fact. Maybe he could have saved a few million of those votes last time by just shutting the fuck up A FEW TIMEs. But he couldn’t and he can’t. No matter how much you yell or beat your chest, it just ain’t happening. I love the guy, I understand what he’s saying and I believe he should be president right now. I’ve reached the point of being willing to raise arms against the federal government. Just like you. But he ain’t and won’t be.

Just not very bright and clearly not very well educated."

In lefty world, "Not very bright" = simply not a leftist.

The lefties still call pediatric neuro-surgeon Ben Carson stupid. Well, in that case its not just about Carson being a conservative, its also about punishing a black man for not staying on the democratical political plantation.

LLR-democratical Chuck: "That's 15:46 of my life I'd like to have back."

That seems to be the consensus amongst the democraticals so you are right in line with your political teammates.

JAORE,

What sane person finds even 10% of politicians non-hateable? More like 1%.

Point to anywhere on this blog where you have contributed to the conversation. The only thing we have ever seen from you is progressive boilerplate and snark. So you calling Drago, "not very bright" is ironic. No?
Be a better Mutaman. Don't be like Chuck.

I used to dismiss Brand as a little crazy but I've come around. He has thought about stuff and has some really deep insights into stuff like why corruption and why politicians do stuff. I'm impressed. Would love to have him for coffee (not that he needs coffee...).

The point you're not hearing, though its been repeated ad infinitum, is that for every lost vote amongst suburban already democrat-adjacent pro-choice white women, a shrinking demographic, there are more votes to be gained amongst working class/lower classes/rural/populist voters, which includes a larger minority component, which is a larger and growing portion of the electorate.

So you have to choose and we'll see what happens.

Personally, I believe the democraticals hitting DeSantis on TPP and other Paul Ryan-esque trade/economic issues plus DeSantis' votes to raise the age for Soc Sec will enable the dems to Romney-fy DeSantis by August of a general election campaign.

Re Brand's reaction to Mika, simultaneously amused and bored: wonder if that's what ended his marriage to Katy Perry. (I think there were other things going on as well, TBH.)

Like ccscientist above at 10:22am, I never was sure what he was aiming for or if he was legit. But his current incarnation is annoying all the right people so I'll stick with him.
