Lady Gaga is here to help... but don't touch her!

I like the way she got all dressed and made up and coiffed for the red carpet, then took it all off to do her stage performance styled pretty much like the average person watching the show at home from the couch.

Did you think Gaga was irked at the photographer for touching her the way he did? My son Chris tells me "People think she was annoyed at that guy for patting her on the hip." Our conversation:

She has people.

You don't have people?

I thought everyone had people...

Love Gaga, she can do no wrong

"Misogynistic," "assault," "opportunity to touch"! Good grief, it was a simple human gesture of gratitude/"I'm OK" from a guy in the process of recovering his wits after a fall.

What's the matter with you two?

He was clearly a splooge stooge who staged a fall so he could grope Lady Gaga.

It does seem a little bit like a 'how dare you touch the goddess' look she's throwing, but I doubt that's an accurate take. These costumes are elaborate and I bet there's a team hovering around her in the dressing room making sure that every single thread is perfection, before the cameras start clicking. I think she was just checking the dress, after the pat.

Lady gaGA.

It's a shame she wasn't wearing her meat-suit. At least to me, it would be completely understandable...I always like to feel the flanks before I buy.

Well, her instincts were to rush to his aid. Points for that. I think her disdain was too contemptuous though. His response was as spontaneous as hers and was most probably not meant to be patronizing. Jeez, this made the highlights reel of the Oscars. Maybe if he had patted her on the ass and she had, in turn, slapped his face, we would have had a truly Oscar worthy moment.

I don't blame her. I don't want strangers touching my torso. Who thinks that's okay? If he wants to say "thank you", he can say "thank you".

Exactly. She was the first toucher. Don’t want to be touched? Don’t touch!

I'm with gahrie, he must have fallen on purpose so he could get Gaga's attention and be close enough to touch her hip not once but twice. It was just like all those other inappropriate touches by Republicans that we need to mention as if they are related too. I mean didn't everyone see that guy touch Gaga and remember George Bush touching Merkle? You know, all those meme's of Bush smelling Merkle's hair as he touched her inappropriately. All you of you remember this off the top of your head.

This was a "Thank you helping out, I'm OK" pat. I think the guy was embarrassed he fell down.

Given his body position, it was the only place he would pat her. Its not like he could shake her hand, or pat her on the back.

Come on, come on, come on, come on
Now touch me, babe
Can't you see that I am not afraid?
But I’m not tryin’ to get laid
This really ain’t as it’s portrayed
Are you a matron or a maid?

Needs a Jim Morrison tag…

She helped him up, and he patted her on her rear. Those aren't equivalent, and he was certainly out of line. I've never patted the rear of a woman I'm not involved with under any circumstances, and I'll bet most of the commenters here would say the same. He was lucky to get away with just a dirty look.

Some people thrive on being annoyed. He was embarrassed, probably a bit confused, shaken up, and he appreciated her gesture. He reached out in a totally natural way and, as part of his thank you, his hand happened to touch the non-sexual body part that was closest and was most likely to get touched if he was acting automatically.

Yeah, let's all get bent out of shape about it.

When I was in middle school there was a hallway the kids called 'The Ramp' that connected two wings of classrooms. The middle school girl thing to do was to push your friend in to a boy they knew you liked so you could get in a little grope for free - Whoops! For some reason I was the 80's version Ryan Reynolds to middle school girls so people were pushed in to me a lot. I see Gaga's point...

Besides, who would be interested in copping a feel of that ugly bag of bones? (Said by a LGG fan.)

Leland said...

While everyone else is focused on Gaga and the guys hands, the woman behind Gaga is picking up something off the floor and Gaga seems to be looking at her and whatever she was picking up. But it is more fun to judge Gaga and the man, so carry on.

Too many pit bulls in LA these days.

Don't want to tempt them any further than necessary.

Robots would say that she is wearing her meat suit...

Mother instinct meets Daddy pat.

That was supposedly a grope? Far-fetched by my estimation.

I've done something like that before, unintentionally. It happens. You're in an awkward position, you are attempting to do something harmless, but you end up patting another area. The last time I did that it was happily a good friend and I just said "Sorry I just grabbed your ass."

Many years ago there was some sort of live broadcast with, I believe, Mitzi Gaynor (possibly mistaken on who it was), where her male dancers were supposed to hold her up while she was lying prone, and one of the guys' hands happened to land on her boob. You could tell he couldn't hold her up without actually touching it, and he kept trying to move his hand out of the way. It was hilarious. She did a playful slap at him at the end.

I admit I watched the whole Oscar show this year, first time in many, many years. The show felt more quickly paced than before, and it mostly was not terrible. Disappointed but not surprised that Kimmel could not resist his anti-Republican jokes, but at least he left them toward late in the show.

I did not see films in a theater this year, and the only one that tempted me was Top Gun: Maverick. I don't expect movie theaters to survive much longer. I appreciate the recognition for Michelle Yeoh. Best tidbit of the night was that two guys who appeared in Encino Man 30 years ago were both nominated this year and both won.

Forget the pat, forget Lady Gaga. The best part of this post are the facial expressions on the women in the foreground and the woman in the background in the blue dress at the very beginning of the video. That's the first thing I noticed. So genuine. So comical.

As for GaGa and the Photog there's a lot of interpretation and very little knowledge.

I'm with Ice Nine's first comment around 10:45. The hell is wrong with you two people in that text chat excerpt? Strongly suggests pulling your heads out and getting some air!

As for her performance, too much of that faux-earnest frowny-face thing going on. By this point she's performed the song in front of large audiences hundreds of times; she can lighten up and perform it with a straight face ffs. Proof that merely being the star of a remake movie doesn't actually make one (or elevate one to the status of) a Barbra Streisand.

By which I mean the singer/showbiz professional, not the political opinionista, obviously.
