Writes Perry Bacon Jr. in "'Voters of color' are shifting in complicated ways" (WaPo).
The good news for Democrats is that the clear majority of Asian, Black and Latino voters are still backing them, lifting the party to victories in states such as Georgia and Virginia where White voters are mostly Republicans. The increasing racial and ethnic diversity of the country has been an electoral boon for Democrats — just less of one than was expected....
The move to the right among voters of color shows that demographics are not destiny. But their strong Democratic tilt shows that demographics still matter.

Voters of color...hilarious.
VOCs?
Any Asian or Hispanic who votes D is voting against their own self-interest.
Asians have money (which they want to keep).
Hispanics work hard and believe in God and family. All things anathema to the Ds...
Evergreen WAPO: Here is some disturbing news we'll report so as to assure you all is well.
Unless there's something wrong with my computer (always IS!!!) our hostess' last seven topics have put the entire commenting class to sleep???
Suburban whites are shifting to the left, especially upper middle class women. They also tend to consistently turn out to vote in elections, which benefits Dems, and can offset some of the losses from minority voters shifting to the right, especially if the GOP doesn't put in increased efforts to develop a get-out-the-vote infrastructure.
The problem for the GOP is that a) money which goes into get out the vote efforts is money that won't go into traditional areas such as advertising, where there are likely already a lot of established grifters on the right, and b) the GOP establishment is largely upper middle class whites, so there's a desire to try and win over that group, since it's literally their family, neighbors, and friends.
Mr. Wibble is correct. The GOP heads still don't know how to read this country. Worse, they haven't figured out how to communicate to the people of America as a party since Eisenhower left office. It's actually pretty pathetic. Say what you will about the Democrats, they at least know how to brand- both themselves and their opponents. And they know how to market to the deep emotions of their voters, with a trickle over to some independents. Standard GOPers still talk among themselves only. They get on the floor in the fetal position when asked to change their approach. (Ronna McDaniel reelected to run the RNC as evidence of this.)
Trump is the one who started to bring the Black and Hispanic voters to the Republicans. Like it or not. That's the reality.
Racial ID can rapidly dissolve. The USA used the "melting pot" metaphor among all European immigrants for a very long time, and these were people who fought in wars against each other for centuries. They were a unified group of "Americans" by WW1. Today, White-Asian, and White-Jewish, Asian-Jewish, and White-Hispanic are common pairings. Black-Hispanic is also a common pairing.
Interracial and interethnic marriages are the great neutralizer of racial conflict, and are happening rapidly in the US. Next, with many multiracial people we'll likely return to the old standard conflict between the wealthy and the poor. People vote for their self interests while political operatives seek to enforce resentment/loyalty and exploit wedges.
Just so you know he's objectively non-partisan:

Like actual voters count for much anymore. . . .
Classic Clickbait Crap courtesy of the WaPo.
The only voters Joe Biden did well with are Mail in Voters that had their ballots filled out for them.
Every other demographic in this country is solidly behind Trump.

This is why when people say there is no systemic racism and sexism in this country I disagree.
There is. And it is upper middle class whites that are supporting the Biden Regime right now. Particularly unmarried upper middle class whites and unmarried women in general.
Married women and other minorities oppose the regime.
The Feminist movement has turned into a collection of angry Karen cat ladies that want to punish everyone else for existing and this goal aligns strongly with the Regime.
Serious Question for these "experts"
*IF* the black bloc changes from 95% democrat to 80% democrat what happens to democrat hegemony?
What IF, at The Same Time.. the brown bloc changes form 80% democrat to 65%??
How Far can college educated single women take a party?
WHERE can college educated single women take a party?
Many years ago, Steve Sailer argued that the Republican Party had been successfully marketed (by its opponents) as the "white people's party". If Republicans were as ruthless as their opponents think, they would try to market the Democratic Party as the "black people's party".
"Republicans can hurry along the coming Democratic train wreck by, for example, lauding blacks as the "moral core" of the Democratic Party. Respectfully point out that the Democratic Party is the rightful agent for the assertion of African-American racial interests, and that advancing black interests is central to the nature of the Democratic Party. Note that, while individual blacks wishing to vote for the good of the country are more than welcome in the GOP, black racial activists have their natural home in the Democratic Party. That's what the Democrats are there for. ...
"Moreover, Republican rhetoric should encourage feelings of proprietariness among blacks toward their Democratic Party. ...
"This kind of subtle language, casually repeated, puts Democrats in a delicate spot. Either they insult blacks by denying this presumption, or they alarm their Asian, Hispanic, and white supporters by not denying it. ...
"As the black sense of rightful ascendancy in the Democratic Party becomes more pronounced, Hispanics will be demanding that their burgeoning numbers mean that it's now their turn. Meanwhile, more Asians will wonder why they are supporting an agglomeration dominated by blacks who don't share their values. And white Democrats will wonder how exactly they can prosper in a party where everybody else is allowed to speak out in internal disputes as representatives of a legitimately aggrieved racial group, but they aren't."
I thought this was on the list of things we are not allowed to talk about.
Mr Wibble...
You forgot: c) the GOP establishment doesn't care about deplorables in flyover country any more than the Democrats do.
Mr. Wibble
With Biden in office the GOP won't have to work that hard to get out legal votes. The Democrats are driving the middle and working class toward the Republicans. Trumps track record speaks for itself with the working class.
“The news media and others who analyze politics shouldn’t emphasize the rightward shift so much that they obscure that these voting blocs remain very Democratic-leaning...."
Some people insist on being victimized and vote for same ol’, same ol’…
I prefer political parties that don't divide people into stereotypes and then make determinations based on those stereotypes on how you will vote. I do understand the science of statistics that support stereotypes. I also know this, it isn't Republican DA's failing to prosecute criminals in inner city neighborhoods. It isn't a Republican President circumventing Congress to give hundreds of billions only to college educated folks struggling to pay off loans. And sure, it is not Republicans in San Francisco promising 5 million to each member of a certain ethnicity despite actually having the money to make good that promise. It also isn't a Republican President and Congress that authorized all those new IRS agents that will be looking for returns failing to note cash payments for services.
It isn't Republicans doing those things and expecting you to continue voting for them based on the color of your skin.
Diversity (e.g. color bloc, racism) politics.
Mason G: "Mr Wibble...
You forgot: c) the GOP establishment doesn't care about deplorables in flyover country any more than the Democrats do."
Quite correct.
The GOPe-ers on this very blog want absolutely nothing to do with the icky multi-ethnic working class voters. I mean, can you imagine what it must be like to shop at walmart with these deplorables?
Literally shaking.
They only want to cater to the pro-choice suburban white women who will vote democratical anyway.
As more POCs become politically centrist or right of center, you will hear more cries of "RACISM" from the Left.
Biden attacked Trump as a "the most racist President in history" because Blacks were seen as sympathetic to Trump.

I agree but it is a lot easier to print up more "mail in" ballots than to get out more voters. I do disagree a bit that every demographic is behind Trump, the man. They are behind his policies. He seems to have lost a bit of his ear for the voters' concerns.
The fraud in 2020 is behind us. Time to move on. God knows the Biden regime has created lots of new issues.

To paraphrase Adlai Stevenson.. The Problem Is: We need a MAJORITY of votes, not Just the legal ones
This shift will end when the leader of the GOP is just another D.C. politician acceptable to the big donor class. This is why Trump was able to make inroads in the midwest where every other candidate since 1988 had failed. It is why Trump was able to make Ohio, Iowa, and Florida easy wins in 2016 and 2020. When Trump is gone, the GOP will return to having to struggle to win Ohio, Iowa, and Florida, while having no chance at all in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
Wake me when it actually happens.
But the GOP will do better in the long run with the Mexican Americans that are replacing the progressive whites who don’t have many kids and whose daughters no sane dude will go near.
Mexican Americans aren’t paying reparations to blacks. They don’t like blacks. They think they are lazy whiners.
a few more cracked heads might sway opinion
logically they will increase
How big the shift will be remains to be seen. But even a small shift will tell nice suburban ladies that the GOP is not the party of mean uncouth white men and therefore make it more kosher for white women to vote GOP.
"At the same time, voters of color have favored Democrats by more than 35 percentage points in every recent election"
So all blacks, Hispanics, and Asians are the same? they're all just one happy "voters of color" family?
I'd say the writer is a moron, but "fundamentally dishonest" is more clearly the correct description
I'm pretty sure I would disagree with much of what this man thinks, but Perry Bacon, Jr. is one of the all-time great names.
Perry Bacon Jr. is a Washington Post columnist.
He is a Democrat activist with a byline.
He focuses on two major themes: the growing radicalism of the Republican Party and the right;
The growing strength and intensity of Republican patriots
and the efforts, mostly on the left and among Democrats, to create a more just, equitable society.
Democrats are trying to create a fascist tyranny where dissent is forbidden and the apparatchik receive all the benefits.
'Suburban whites are shifting to the left, especially upper middle class women.'
UMC White women are a threat to Our Democracy™
Between transitioning their children and making videos of themselves in 4 or 5 masks to signal their covid sanctimony, they don't have time to stay current on the issues.
As been mentioned many times, the minority groups that make up much of the Democratic Party voting base do not have many common interests with each other and are being held together only because they have been convinced that the Republican Party hates them. The more the Democratic Party embraces policies that the various minority groups oppose, the more they will investigate the Republican Party as an alternative. If they find the Republicans welcoming, more and more of the minority groups will switch. This is why the Democratic Party is all-in on racism as they have no choice to keep their coalition together.
The fact that a certain group still votes overwhelming for one party is generally not relevant. If they rely upon a group voting 90/10 to win elections, if that switches to 80/20 then the group still overwhelmingly votes for them but they lose. There's no silver lining there.

Yup, it's what I worry about with DeSantis. Now, he figured it out in his first campaign. By supporting school vouchers, he got a lot of votes from black mothers in Dade County. But that was before he got all the "help" from GOPe consultants.
When I saw them say on TV that Trump was doing less well with White men in 2020 than 2016, I knew Biden was going to win somehow. Don't believe the POC hype for Republicans. A 1% loss of White men is more important than gaining 10% more minority votes in mostly Blue States.
Diversity is an antagonistic (e.g. racism, sexism, ageism, class-based bigotry) philosophy: politically congruent, selective. DIEversity (Diversity, Inequity, Exclusion) breeds adversity. That said, diversity of individuals, minority of one.
If you’re innumerate The good news for Democrats is that the clear majority of Asian, Black and Latino voters are still backing them helps you get through the day.
The bad news is if Democrats lose an additional percentage point or two of this ‘voting block’ they are doomed in a fair election…and Democrats know it. Hence the disturbing pandering when it comes to crime and corporate cash for Malibu homes programs…
Seeing as how generations of black americans have been decimated by the policies of the democrat party and their education racket, they are insane if they keep voting corrupt democrats into office.
So the Americans originating from shithole countries prefer to vote for Republicans who will do the same thing to America - just as they have for their white trash supporters and did when crashing the American and global economies in 1929 and 2008.
Bad, stupid habits die hard. And apparently kill a whole lot of other people along with them.
Also, just read the news today about Reagan’s henchman Connally sabotaging the release of American hostages held in Iran as a way to boost his campaign.
What a disgusting excuse for a party.
Dicks showering with chicks at the gym not going down well.
Gunner,
I don't think that is correct. Whites are approximately 60% of the population, so white men approximately 30%. One percent of white men would be .3% of the population. 10% minority voters would be 4% of the population.
Biden: "If you have a problem figuring whether you're for me or Trump then you ain't black"
You'd think the Nice People would find such a racialist sentiment horrifying but they still smile at ol' Joe.
