Biden's lawyers pointed out, correctly, and justifiably, that Joe Biden has a 'D' after his name.
Maybe in the inevitable media defense of Biden, we'll finally get some information and context about the "classified" documents at Mar-a-lago.

I can't wait for 2024. Biden doddering out on stage, barely aware of where he is, angrily defending his administration even as the economy is in the tank and the world is sinking into chaos. Either Trump wins- which is a vindication of Trump, Trumpism, and Trump voters- or Biden wins, in which case this country gets exactly what it fucking deserves.
There appears to be no obstruction here, which is criminal. But there is substantial negligence and Biden has to take full responsibility for that. How did it happen? What did he do to prevent it from happending.

One obvious reason for leaking the info that Biden too took classified documents was to cause political trouble for President Biden.

“Sensitive compartmented information” (SCI) is very serious. This is information that should only disseminated to people who have been read into the specific compartment, and even then only on a need to know basis. Every such document should be under control of a security control officer who checks them out and back into a vault. Between this episode and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton I can only conclude that the people working for Obama were very lax and not at all security conscious. I assume it reflects Obama’s own attitudes towards classified data.

It's out now because the House is in business, investigations are beginning, and the Biden team needed to spin it before someone else did. I think you're wrong to see it as a dump Biden move. It's like the GOP with McCarthy. Eventually, when you have no one else plausible for the office, you go with the guy you didn't really want. This is a move to save Biden, not sink him. Thus, the WaPo trying to explain that the difference between Biden and Trump makes it okay. If they wanted Biden gone, they'd admit his criminal error.

This information was released probably because Biden's political enemies knew about it, and were about to go public with it.
Why end this suppression effort?
There will be a lot of information coming out about the Biden family business during the upcoming House investigations. The standard model is to release a slow drip of info to a compliant press to stay ahead of the curve. Since the American public seems to have an attention span of 15 minutes this is generally a good tactic. I doubt if it's going to work once the House turns on the spigot, but it may mitigate some damage. Tying things by similarity to Trump is another tactic. This one was easy enough. Other stuff will be harder. The investigation into Kushner's business with the Saudis is an example of similarization to Hunter's graft. At some point it's going to become a rearguard battle.
To me the funniest part of this story is using the words "think tank" and "Biden" in the same sentence.

So several, including me, brought this up on the open thread last night. And my comment there is still just as applicable. So a quick cut and paste of some of it:
the President, as in PRESIDENT Trump has ultimate classification authority and there are no formal procedures he has to follow. Period. Vice-presidents, as in VICE-PRESIDENT Biden have no declassification powers at all. They belong to the President. So their presence there is proof of an actual crime.
There you have it- an actual crime. It's pretty much black and white.
It does look like the DemoncRATs are getting ready to dump Biden. Will they get him to resign? On the Republican side- the last thing they should do is start impeachment. Hold the DemoncRATs to to the fire- let them introduce it. 25th amendment? Refuse to go along with it. Either the DemoncRATs get rid of him, or they don't. 25th simply pushes the problem aside. Of course it does have one bright side. As acting President, not President, Kamala cannot appoint a VP, because the position is already filled- by her. McCarthy becomes next in line for the presidency.
And just one more really cynical thought. Biden is elderly. And clearly suffering from dementia. Should his breathing stop in the middle of the night and Dr. Jill doesn't notice it until morning- no one, and by that I mean no one, will investigate or conduct an autopsy to see if there's an unnatural cause.

And you knows this is untrue how. Biden might have sold influence but you can assure us that he would never provide classified documents. Of course, that's what Hunter was for. I don't think Hunter had a security clearance, though.

So when Trump a candidate against Biden looks unseemly. Biden docs have gone to Trump appointee (as did Hunter Biden investigation).

Now Trump pitches out that argument claiming that all Biden properties should immediately be searched but his recorded argument before the court was that no judicial charges are enforceable. So why bother since NARA had no record of and therefore wasn't looking for missing classified documents from Biden's office. At this point, no one has identified who was involved and how and why the 10 classified docs involving foreign security assessments got filed away.
They need to be able to point the finger at Joe for the economic disaster they're cultivating. DOn't assume the 'revelation' means a quick replacement. Joe's here for a while longer...

Biden was involved. The documents were in his possession or he woldn't have had them to move. He's responsible for everything after that no matter who else was involved. And- VICE-PRESIDENT Biden did not have declassification authority. PRESIDENT Trump did. Documents were subsequently handed over to NARA? Immaterial- not the issue. This is an actual national security issue, not a dispute between a Republican President and Democrart civil servants at NARA. Uncleared attorneys found TS/SCI documents in a non-SCIF area. That's what was searched for at Trump's residence- with it conveniently forgotten that he had declassification authority. And- they didn't find any anyhow.

Gadfly, the only difference is that Biden can pardon himself for having broken the law, he can't declassify the material backwards in time, his being President only makes it legal since January 20, 2021.
Biden broke the same law Trump is alleged to have broken, only Biden can't argue that he declassified the material before taking it out of the White House. All Biden can do is claim that Obama or Trump declassified it for him, thus making it legal.
Why can't you just admit that much, rather than make yourself look like an idiot?
And Saint Croix, is correct- this issue is unimportant- it was when it was Trump they were hounding over the exact same issue, and that hasn't changed. The influence peddling that Biden was doing using his brother and son as intermediaries is where the real corruption is.

Well, Biden wasn't that much better running in 2020 than he is today, and got "elected". I suspect, with mail-in-voting, Democrats could get Hitler elected in this country.
Way back when, I was a young staff officer in a very small office that had a unique set of customers. I would often have to carry Secret, Top Secret and Top Secret: SCI documents from our office to a brief, SCIF, Comm Center, etc. All had different cover sheets to quickly determine the level of documents in the folder. When caring Secret and TS documents, no one paid attention. When carrying TS-SCI folders, the people in the halls parted like I was Moses in the Red Sea. No one wanted anything to do with SCI programs.
