Althouse and Meade text, just now, about Biden's announcement that he will end the Covid 19 emergency on May 11th.

(The photo I shared with Meade comes from my son Chris. You can see a larger version of that picture here. From there, you can get to more of his photos from Kobe (and Kyoto), Japan.)

Michael Senger is, of course, absolutely right. That they can give a date months down the road when the emergency "will be over" means it's already not an emergency; they're keeping the state of emergency for other reasons. Most likely because they like the power it gives them.

Aside from her Choice in planned parent/hood, and his Choice with present and progressive effect and collateral damage, even Biden, under cover of brayers and redistributive bennies, cannot forever ignore Her Choice.

But no lions, lionesses, and their unPlanned cubs playing in gay revelry. The pride was ordered by a cargo cult to sequester in darkness.

Awesome. Biden should celebrate by having a photo op wearing a mask in front of the CDC building with a huge sign above saying " Mission Trunalimunumaprzure."

Canada is still in a state of emergency because of the protests of some truckers who didn't want to be vaccinated represented a threat to ... well, I don't know, threat to Trudeau's hold on his office, I guess.

A couple of days ago a "protester" was wearing a pretty big mask to cover his face and was waving an American flag in the middle of a protest. One can only think he was there to discredit the protests, nobody else was wearing a mask. A person who waved a Nazi flag in the truckers protest was protected from being identified, as a "national security matter" by Canadian authorities. He was obviously a political operative of the Liberal Party, probably who worked for the RCMP. Canada used that nazi flag as a justification for its "state of emergency."

Our democracy is fucked. That's why I hope they send Trump to jail.

They should add “E Days” to the Federal holiday calendar. Every second Wednesday is for lockdowns; the first Monday of every month ending in “y” is for masking (and we don’t mean those crappy throwaway masks, either); and there will be three more E days determined by the President pulling numbered balls out of a big spinning cage on network TV.

Pass the popcorn.

I read that far expecting/hoping that the next part would be " ... not be running for reelection in 2024."

No such luck.

The science will be resettled on May 11. "So let it be written, so let it be done."

Someone needs to ask Karine Affirmative Action why not May 10th?

Yeah, nothing more neatly summarizes the entire farce than this arbitrary ending date 4 months into the future.

Does this mean that some diehard mask-wearers will finally stop wearing their masks everywhere?

Our 38 month long national nightmare is nearly over.

We've come a long way from "two weeks to flatten the curve"

I would imagine that ending the emergency declaration would have legal ramifications. Announcing now that it will be ended on May 11 gives Federal agencies time to review any COVID-era regs and figure out what can stay, what has to go, and what needs to be changed, and to go through the whole process (which can easily take 60 days or more).

Plus, there's a lot of pressure from Mayor Bowser and other blue-city govs to get workers back into the offices, especially fed workers. After three years of telework, that is going to be a hard sell. Four months gives plenty of time to figure out the logistics of getting everyone back into the office (seating arrangements, cleaning schedules, etc.), as well as figure out who has to go back in, who can telework, and how many positions are going to need to be filled due to workers leaving. Waiting until May also means that people can let their kids finish out the school year.

Mr. Wibble @ 10:05: Good point. Beyond the basic legal/logistical adjustments, there is the all-important task of CYA. I expect we will see a lot of back-dated memoranda —like the one written by Susan Rice at 11:59 AM on January 20, 2017 as she left the WH— that airbrush the history of panic, oppression, utter incompetence and outright theft in the halls of government during the Plague Times.

They need the emergency as a pretense for keeping the mail in voter fraud going, which they know they need to continue to win elections but if you keep the emergency going until then, people might start to get suspicious...

...the same is happening with the mainstream media propaganda machine. If you keep it going forever the rubes could catch on but if you send up a few straight news stories the flock will start to come back, primed and ready to hear 'our truth' come 2024...

The moratorium on student loan repayment served its purpose for the 2022 election. It is no longer needed.

I guess extending the emergency to May gives cover to teachers' unions and school systems to keep pandemic policies in place through the end of the school year. #heroes

What a bummer to be the last COVID fatality on May 10.

No. No It Does Not.
Masks Today, Masks Yesterday, Masks Tomorrow

If you want a picture of the future, imagine a mask strapping on a human face - for ever.
