"In a well-covered incident at the tournament, Wahl was detained by Qatari security guards at a stadium when he arrived to a game wearing a rainbow soccer ball T-shirt."

"Homosexuality is illegal in Qatar. Wahl, on his Substack, wrote that security guards refused to let him in, held him for 25 minutes and demanded he remove his shirt."

From "U.S. soccer journalist Grant Wahl dies after collapsing at World Cup match" (WaPo).

Wahl, 48, had written about some of his health issues in Qatar in the days leading up to his passing. Earlier this week, he wrote: “My body finally broke down on me. Three weeks of little sleep, high stress and lots of work can do that to you.”

He said he had a cold turn into something more serious on the night the United States played the Netherlands. “I could feel my upper chest take on a new level of pressure and discomfort,” he wrote.

ADDED: The Daily Mail puts it far more luridly: "Grant Wahl complained of 'death rattle' cough day before his shock death at World Cup and received 20 minutes of frantic CPR before dying in hospital: Gay brother suggests he was murdered."

Is that the same as killing yourself?

A classic case of - for God's sake, can't we wait for an autopsy before we declare this is a gay killing?

Wahl’s wife is a physician and medical journalist who specializes in infectious diseases and global health—Dr. CĂ©line Gounder. Dr. Gounder was a member of the COVID-19 Advisory Board of Biden’s transition team. Unfortunately Wahl’s wife was not with Wahl in Qatar. Might have made a medical difference in care.

Same here. I have to assume all these high-energy younguns are on some drug or other.

It's cheating, I tell ya.

Transgenderism (e.g. homosexual/bisexual orientation)... normalized through political congruence ("="). The "Rainbow" is a hate symbol that captures the em-pathetic appeal of the Pro-Choice ethical religion adopted by Progressive sects in their selective exclusion of babies, but also black, brown, and the violent destruction of white colors. Not every cultural is equally tolerant of social progress and collateral damage in its woke (sic).

A possible abortion motivated by [State] Choice. A plausible self-abortion through narcissistic indulgence. A probable George "Fentanyl" Floyd event forced by a progressive condition.

Was he insulin resistant?

How much water was he drinking in probably hot very dry conditions his body was not suited to?

Qatar has an evil regime that killed thousands of slave laborers to build the stadium he was watching those stupid games in so I don't think they would be above killing him.

I just don't think they were industrious enough or clever enough to kill him surreptitiously. That isn't how middle eastern governments kill people.

When you go to another country there are only a few things to know.

Live by their rules and don't be an asshole are right near the top of the list.

It's not difficult, folks...

Affirmative Antagonism (AA). That said, a weak correlation, but the victim suffered from a progressive condition that preceded his detainment.

wrote that security guards refused to let him in

The same thing happened with Floyd and the mob assembled. In Charlottesville, a progression from nationwide mobbing, trapping, insurrections carried out by [anti]fascist mobs.

He deliberately picked a fight with the local authorities while in poor health. He died, therefore he was murdered. Is that about right?

It sounds like a lot of CV-19 vaccinated up the wazoo healthy young/middleaged men have died of sudden heart attacks.

Maybe this guy was one of them. The unproven conspiracy theory that he was murdered, seems like left-wing projection. Or drama queens wanting drama.

Here they type of story Wahl was producing before he died: "What happened when I wore a rainbow t-shirt to the Qatar World Cup in support of LGBTQ rights in a country where same-sex relationships are illegal."

THis guy was a complete dickhead toward Qatar. Talk about your colonialist attitude toward a small country! And disrespect toward Islam.

Too bad he's dead, but I'm not broken up about it.

Wahl is not particularly young. He's 48. I'm guessing he was not interested in getting healthcare in Qatar which is understandable. I doubt it was the death rattle. I'm guessing heart attack.

Sounds like to me he was on stimulants. I also wouldn't rule out that he was recently boosted with the COVID vaccine for international travel. If I had to make a guess about his actual emergency, blood clots in the lungs sounds about right given the symptoms he described himself.

I am proud to report that I have never spent three weeks with little sleep, high stress, and lots of work (2 out of 3 sometimes, but never the trifecta). That's no way to live a long and happy life.

Maybe. Or just maybe, with his spouse being a COVID-19 insider and vaccine promoter, he got boosted with the probably even more toxic bivalent experimental artificial mRNA gene therapy product (aka “vaccine”), and died as a result of its well known side effects.

Tomcc said...

An unfortunate and untimely death. One wonders if his decision to not seek treatment was personal or political.

The Rainbow is a hate symbol proudly paraded by albinophobes. He should have known better than to overtly discriminate against this historically discriminated minority.

Rcocean@10:31: exactly my first thought… the Covid vax spike protein injected 5+ times in Covidians may be wreaking havoc. But we’ll never know, because we won’t study side effects, therefore there aren’t any!

I'm going to guess that health care in Qatar is pretty damn good...

Westerners when going to less civilized (sic) countries, often take their own rules with them. In this case, a persecution complex which puts a lot of emotional and physical stress on oneself. Coupled with their (seemingly) poor health doesn’t lead to a positive outcome.

The Covid, its vaccine, and side effects, as others have mentioned. Condolences to his family.

Per report at either Sports Illustrated or ESPN, Wahl did seek treatment in Qatar, diagnosed with bronchitis, given antibiotic prescription, and took a day or so off to rest and get better.

Speculation on prescribed medicine possibly being tainted, perhaps intentionally, starts . . .

His shaved head makes me wonder if he had health issues in the past. His brother thinks he was killed. Maybe he just had bad luck. He was robbed in broad daylight in Tegucigalpa when he was covering the 2010 Cup qualifying matches.

It does make sense to have oil-rich countries that have more money than they know what to do with host events like the World Cup or the Olympics. Nobody else can afford it. Nobody wants the trouble and the debt. Next World Cup we are tripling up with Canada and Mexico to host. That makes sense. We still are hosting most of the matches.

I was wondering why our local (Seattle) news had not one, but TWO stories on their front page about a soccer scribe dying halfway across the world.

That explains it.

Our media is pathetic.

What a bitch. Ya go all that way to Qatar to watch of all things a frapping soccer game. And then ya die as you attempt to do some sort of homo stunt for "the homo cause."

What a bitch. Would have been better off learning first that not all cultures like homos.

How much of the reporting on the World Cup requires being there? What would he have missed by simply viewing it from New Jersey or Oklahoma City? I'm guessing that sports journalists vastly overestimate the value of "being there". With skycams, Go-pro and its equivalents, and drone platforms, the coverage is getting so good/comprehensive, maybe folks who are not in the greatest of health could start skipping the travel...
