"I never watch anything foul smelling or evil. Nothing disgusting; nothing dog ass. I’m a religious person."

"I read the scriptures a lot, meditate and pray, light candles in church. I believe in damnation and salvation, as well as predestination. The Five Books of Moses, Pauline Epistles, Invocation of the Saints, all of it."

Said Bob Dylan, asked if he streams movies on Netflix to relax.

But that word "relax" did not resonate with him. He's already relaxed — "too relaxed... like a flat tire; totally unmotivated, positively lifeless." So he says. But that doesn't mean he's looking for things to stimulate him, because it "takes a lot to get me stimulated" and he's "excessively sensitive," so he's liable to go from totally inert to "restless and fidgety." There's no "middle ground."

On or off. One extreme or the other. Maybe that works for someone who performs on stage and then must spend so much time in a travel routine. He can fall asleep "at any time." He also says "I can write songs anywhere at any time."

He muses — comically — about songwriters who have a routine: "I heard Tom Paxton has one. I’ve wondered sometimes about going to visit Don McLean, see how he does it."

Well Bob, that rules out watching anything coming out of Hollywood over the past 50 years.

... it "takes a lot to get me stimulated"

And perhaps a train to make him cry. It took very little to make me laugh reading this interview.

I assumed Dylan was a Christian believer when he wrote "You Gotta Serve Somebody"

You’re gonna have to serve somebody
Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you’re gonna have to serve somebody

The Dylan interview adds more evidence.

There was a youtube video of Dylan and his wife Joan Baez visiting London celebrities or something and Dylan treating Baez like dirt, so there's that.

If Dylan wants to see how to blog (and he should), he should come visit Meadhouse.

Baez weren’t no wife of Bobby!

There’s a film of Dylan and his band performing that Christianity-themed “Slow Train” album that I watched a few years ago. Great performance! One song you saw Dylan as a song and dance guy, fully animated… jarring but entertaining.

Bob’s a fascinating cat who expresses himself like no one else. Got a lot of wisdom in those tumbling thoughts and laconic musings.

What media you consume is very comparable with say the food you consume. A guy who mainly consumes Doritos Coke & fast food is going be affected by that choice physically psychologically & spiritually. Same with media. About every self help advise I've ever seen says to stop or limit news media consumption if you find yourself overwrought. Bob is smart to realize that.

I wonder what Dylan means by "dog ass"?

What is the Invocation of the Saints? Or did he mean the Intercession of the Saints; or the Communion of Saints?

Isn't the invocation of the saints what Martin Luther described as the working of the Antichrist?

Full credit for his musicianship (I think! There's something about his shtik that makes me doubt everything about him.) But OK, musicianship aside, is Bob Zimmerman still just faking it on half the topics he touches?

I love that phrase "Nothing digusting, nothing dog ass". I'd love to hear more about what Dylan thinks is "evil" or "foul smelling". Since we've gotten rid of cable, I've watched less and less TV, and the less I watch, the less I miss it.

I've been going back and watching old favorite TV shows, but even there I find myself tuning out after an hour or two. My appetite for TV Sportsball has also descreased. I think watching all that Video was just a bad habit. Just too much dogass.

Yeah, it's a great phrase. Great motto.

As far as what he was referring to, I'd look at 2 things:

1. The question referred to "binge[ing] on movies via Netflix."

2. Just before that phrase, he mentioned some "old-fashioned shows" he liked that made him "feel at home," then said he was "not a fan of packaged programs, or news shows."

We know what the news is and how it's presented. Harder to think of what he meant by "packaged programs." Maybe the way on Netflix/HBO a series will come out all at once. Maybe he meant documentary series. I can't picture him watching "Harry and Meghan" or whatever.
