Post 4 of 15 - Clyde's Top 10 Favorite "New" Songs of 2022
Honorable Mention #2 - Los Straitjackets (Feat. Exene Cervenka) - I'll Go Down Swinging (Sing Along With Los Straitjackets - 2001)

Los Straitjackets is an instrumental rock band from Los Angeles that is primarily known for their surf rock music. Exene Cervenka is part of the punk rock band X, as well as The Knitters. In 2001, Los Straitjackets did an album with various guest performers singing on their songs, and this was my favorite one. The song "I'll Go Down Swinging" was written by country singer Bill Anderson, with the most popular version of the song being Porter Wagoner's recording in 1964.

Currently reading Mary Roach's "Grunt: The Curious Science of Humans at War." I had seen a few of her talks on CSPAN and knew she was funny, but hadn't read her books. This one is funny despite the extremely gruesome nature of much that she describes--maggots and stinkbombs as well as more than you ever knew about repairing maimed and mangled bodies. If nothing else, if you pay taxes you might want to know where some of them go. (Not enough, or too much? You decide.)

Still working through Klemperer's Journals. Up to August '42, when many of the Jews of Dresden had already been harried into suicide and the more optimistic were hoping for the best at Theresienstadt, the showplace camp. The brutal pettiness of the functionaries of the mighty Turd Reich, and a lot of youngsters, is relieved very little by everyday gestures from regular people, even sometimes cops and soldiers.

Klemperer doesn't spare himself from criticism, and chronicles his own fearful hardening and bitterness, but he also never stops learning and questioning, and making his notes so that posterity could know, even if they couldn't understand.

While I feel for anyone trying to travel, I will admit I am hoping for a full on blizzard in Madison Thurs/Friday.

A half dozen days 'trapped' with my two favorite people, a bunch of gifts, puzzles/board games and some great food with beautiful drifted snow outside sounds like nirvana.

Musk turned the ship of censorship around. It was coming.

His contribution will not be recognized in our lifetime.

My parents were drinking Bloody Marys the other day and I asked how did that drink get its name, and nobody knew.

Playing Jeopardy on my phone today, found out in the Potent Potables category that Bloody Mary was a reference to Mary I, the first queen of England. She killed a bunch of people in the Protestant Reformation.

Queen Elizabeth was her half-sister and took over from Mary when she died. Bloody Mary is considered one of the worst rulers of England and Elizabeth was one of the best.

(I'm more of a beer guy).

Philadelphia is going to require masks after the holidays, despite a study showing that a school district with masks had exactly the same results as a neighboring one without masks

This is what misinformation from “experts” and media has created, permanently unjustified rules

Where is the true leadership in washington? People with principles and character, not rabid ideology and extremist policies which ignore the true problems of the common man. The USA is back to taxation without representation, tyrannical and greedy government with faux parties, collecting taxes while oppressing the lowest citizens. Rome is truly burning. Coming to your town soon!

From The Atlantic:
“Many secrets, no mysteries”: That is the basic rule of all Donald Trump scandals.

There has never been any mystery about what happened on January 6, 2021. As Senator Mitch McConnell said at Trump’s second impeachment trial, “There’s no question—none—that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day.”

* * * *
Next comes Special Counsel Jack Smith’s real-world January 6th and Mar-a-Lago investigations followed by Trump's prosecution. The D.C. Grand Jury is already operating.

New Banking GOP Report Reveals How Asset Managers Use Proxy Voting Power to Advance Liberal Policies

"Raises questions about compliance with federal securities and banking laws

Washington, D.C. – Republican staff of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee today released a report detailing how BlackRock, State Street, and Vanguard (the “Big Three” asset managers) use shareholder voting power to advance a liberal political agenda.

The staff report, titled “The New Emperors: Responding to the Growing Influence of the Big Three Asset Managers”, explains how the Big Three leverage their ability to vote on behalf of passive index fund investors to promote liberal political priorities such as ESG (environmental, social, and governance) and DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) policies. The report details how the asset managers have used both hard power by directly voting on resolutions and soft forms of influence. For instance, asset managers use “engagements” with corporate executives to change managerial decisions at the company, relying on the implied threat that an asset manager will vote against particular directors or oppose management on controversial shareholder resolutions.

Although federal law requires shareholders with significant equity positions to report on their influence over large public companies, the Big Three rely on an exception meant for passive investors to evade this disclosure—even though the Big Three’s influence is anything but passive. The report also delves into whether the Big Three could be considered bank holding companies. Under federal law, entities exercising “control” over banks are considered to be “bank holding companies.” Such designations would upend the asset managers’ business models.

Staff conclude the report by calling on Congress and regulators to investigate the Big Three’s influence over portfolio companies, examine the Big Three’s compliance with disclosure laws, and enact the INDEX Act to return voting power to true investors.

Curious what plan the Commie-Pinkos have for the school systems being flooding with elementary age children who do not speak English. Not that they would learn anything anyway.

If it was to benefit Trump, gadfly would have no problem cooking up Hatch Act violations to send agents to prison. I have no doubt that if they can get any remotely plausible, however far-fetched theory of a crime, the banana republic prosecutors and juries in DC will have no problem convicting Trump of the crime of defeating Hillary and forcing the FBI to turn into a partisan gestapo for Democrats.

When Trump wouldn't go quietly into the night, they staged a riot on January 6th. With the connivance of Nancy Pelosi who failed to properly staff and equip the Capitol Police on that day.
