"Congress has routinely ducked responsibility for addressing border dysfunction, in large part the result of an asylum system that lawmakers have left broken."

"Unless Congress acts, the nation will face the consequences of lawmakers’ dithering. On Tuesday, a federal judge in D.C. ruled that the government can no longer use an order, invoked at the pandemic’s outset, whose public health benefits have long since evaporated.... The progressive collapse of this country’s asylum system over many years... is the main cause of today’s accelerating disarray at the border.... [But] the president and his border policies have contributed to the problem. On taking office, President Biden set about dismantling the Trump administration’s restrictions.... In response to Judge Sullivan’s ruling, the Biden administration... has prepared to rush resources to the border, including thousands of beds to hold detainees in tent facilities, and is planning for quicker deportations as a deterrent. Ultimately, though, the fix, and the failure, lie with Congress."

From the Washingon Post Editorial Board: "Only Congress can solve the coming border surge."

People were already writing books in the 80's (well, someone was) bout how the rise of the administrative state is driven by congress' disinterest in doing its job. They push the icky parts on to the administrative state by passing broad vague laws where all the teeth are in the implementing regulations while they themselves focus on constituent services (i.e., pork) because that's what helps them get reelected.

And because the administrators are insulated from public accountability, the government becomes unresponsive and, inevitably, unconcerned about the needs and welfare of the American people.

There is an actual, literal war taking place along our Southern Border. The Jalisco New Generation Cartel is a military power and it is using military means to blow up, murder, and destroy their enemies. They have even taken shots- multiple times- at our own border agents. The human trafficking since Biden took office is as bad an anywhere in the world. The amount of fentanyl and other drugs coming across our border is staggering- enough fentanyl to take out the entire population of the US. (manufactured and supplied by China, by the way).

From Day 1, Biden and the Democrats have laid out invitations of a sort for the world to walk into our country. Just yesterday Chuck Schumer decried our shortage of babies (a million abortions doesn't help) and stated that our open borders are the answer. The WaPo editorial board is a bit late to this party and their comments sound like they are viewing it from 1991, not from 2022. We have a war going on at our border. The Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, California border towns have been overrun. Those states and now others have been overrun. You have Mayors and Governors offering full asylum in Sanctuary states or cities and no one seems to actually know the level of mess we are in now.

We are at the point where it will take military action, a full-on war with the Cartels to secure our border again. Good luck with that. We're too busy sending billions into a black hole in Eastern Europe under the guise of 'stopping Russia'. Every time Zelensky speaks, we send more billions and we're told to feel good about it, even as we watch our own border being overrun.

Democrats, like they have demonstrated for 5? decades, much prefer the political cudgle, rather than legislative solutions.

Dems keep saying we need migrants and immigrants, but refuse to say how many, by what means.
Dems claim Republicans refuse to negotiate. But Republicans will give away the farm for a secure border. Something Dems refuse. We need a wall. A full wall. Because anything less can be defunded and turned off.

How many do we need? Debate in congress, negotiate it out. But Schumer can only give a speech. He refuses to allow debate. What all the DC swamp wants is a back room deal. That "deal" is determining the division of the grift, the immigration thing is just the curtain hiding the real deal making.

Why pass laws when the executive won’t enforce the ones it doesn’t like. Much of the problems that we face right now can be laid at the feet of “prosecutorial discretion.”

2 years of Biden's open borders. The left purposefully knee-capped ICE at the border. De-funded and demoralized them - told all border agents they are not allowed to follow the law - not allowed to do their jobs.
Crook Biden administration Went out of their way to vilify border agents with horse reins based off a still photo. It was a lie - he never whipped anyone. He was attempting to do his job while be over-whelmed with illegal entrants.
But they liar left used the photo to LIE. LIE Like a Joy Behar(D).

One small sign of this Democrat crisis is that all the border checkpoints in AZ on I 8 , which runs along the border, are now closed. It looks like the Democrats have installed a D governor who will dismantle what border protections are left. Kari Lake is planning to sue but Democrats have gotten very good at vote fraud.

"Congress has routinely ducked responsibility for addressing border dysfunction, in large part the result of an asylum system that lawmakers have left broken."

True, but the responsibility is shared across the branches. The executive branch should hold all claimants in camps at the border until adjudication. Judges should stand by to quickly deny asylum claims as a matter of course, since nearly all are bogus--"migrants" come here for a better life, not to escape persecution. And Congress should specify, if it hasn't already, that the U.S. will not recognize any asylum claims by "persecuted" foreigners who entered through a safe third country.

The McCain Machine in Arizona, which ALWAYS supported unrestricted illegal immigration, has effectively installed a democratical Gov in AZ and now AZ is going to become Ground Zero for the surging illegals as Abbott is moving aggressively in Texas.

Congratulations Team GOPe. You "succeeded".

The border was secure under Trump and the Wall was being built. BIDEN stopped it all. He opened the border, AND invited illegals to invade us. The illegals should ALL be sent to sanctuary cities and states, and I am saying that as a resident of sanctuary state New Jersey. Our governor wants illegals here, so send as many buses as you can until they scream and stomp their little feet. THEY brought this on themselves. Let it burn.

wendybar said...

And Chuckie the Clown Schumer wants to give all 45 million of them here amnesty. Think that will STOP the flow coming?? Nope, all that did was to tell them to get here as FAST as they can, so the Democrats can RAM amnesty down our throats before January.

The present law is already not being enforced by the Biden Administration, so what good would more restrictive laws passed by Republicans do? For Congress to actually have any effect at all, it would have to impeach and remove Biden for non-enforcement.

Here is my prediction- this is a push for mass amnesty in return for imaginary tougher immigration restrictions- once again, it arises when the Republicans control either one or both houses of Congress, and disappears when they control neither.

You notice how the Biden Administration always talks about how many apprehensions they do at the border each month? What no reporter ever reports, however, is that 99.9% of those apprehended are given a court date and released to go wherever they want, except, unless they want to go to Martha's Vineyard.

Sure, sure, sure it's not like we could ever have a president who would want to fix things.

About legislators ducking their responsibilities: I hear people saying over and over again that things would be better if the federal government had less power and the states had more. What they don't realize is that state legislatures don't want more power. It means more responsibility. It means they have to be the ones imposing the taxes. It means there's a chance they could lose their jobs if they make the wrong choices. Better to let Congress take care of everything (which Congress apparently doesn't want to do either).

A wall would be a good first step to mitigate progress of migration, pandemic, and collateral damage. Emigration reform would be the logical next step to avoid colonialism from afar through liberal policies and democratic prejudice.

If Biden would just set up those tents and beds outside Buffalo New York, and DeSantis and Abbot keep sending "undocumented future citizens" aka "border crossers", a month or two of Buffalo winters in tents would solve the border problem. So Biden--build beds in Buffalo.

The laws are on the books. With the recent Court's decision to overturn The Twilight Amendment, the executive no longer has an excuse to defend civil rights violations. The same with single/central/monopolistic solutions that sustain, and, in fact, drive progressive prices and availability.

Thanks for noticing the obvious for the past several decades. Top men there.

A large number of the problems in this country are caused by Congress refusing to its job and delegating its authority to unelected judges or executive bureaucracies that don't seem to answer to anyone at all. The Constitution was based upon three co-equal branches that would be jealous of their powers and would block overreach by the others. A fourth branch out on its own island is a massive corruption of that system. If our government was functioning properly, this would not be a partisan thing. But our government is not remotely close to functioning properly and it appears a majority of our elected officials are motivated by power hunger, graft, or both.

There's going to be a point where this all breaks. It will not be pleasant and there are no assurances that the guilty will be the ones who are punished. This has all happened before in various forms in various parts of the world, and it rarely seems that those in power see their doom coming.
