Christmastime is here.

Remember the White House Christmas in 2017? It had a similar whiteness theme. In December 2021, Trump was still irked at how people criticized Melania:

"She made magnificent, remember the most beautiful you've ever seen, white trees? And they said, 'Oh that's terrible.' I said the next time, let's do it more traditional. Let's go with green. We went with beautiful green trees and they said, 'why wouldn't you make them white like they used to be? But I'll tell you what, she's loved all over and she's got a tremendous heart and she says 'hello.'"

Merry Christmas to all and to all a hello.

I immediately thought of Melania's White House Christmas and how they reacted to that. We can never just enjoy anything anymore.

You know it's Christmastime in the White House when Santa takes over the Easter Bunny's role as Biden wrangler.

Nice reference to the mournful "Peanuts" song to put us all in the right (depressed) holiday mood.

It's fine. I mean, it looks like snowman Burl Ives should slide down the hall while explaining why it's in the Christmas sprit for Non- binary Biden to steal luggage at the airport, but who doesn't rip off ideas, right?

Who did it better, the White House or the local middle school?

Never understood the Melania hatred by the media.

I think it was mostly bitchy, catty news anchor women that, for once in their lives, she made look kind of plain...

Is this suppose to make us feel good about the senile and corrupt Joe Biden?

Bread and circuses.

It's the politicization of everything. You can't appreciate Melania's decorations, because then it's somehow a sign that you approve of Trump's policies.

Local mall for "Pictures with Santa."

Love the Birch trees, flocked trees (East Room?) and the spectacular Nativity. I applaud the efforts of all the people who designed and put it together for all of us to enjoy.

You have a wicked sense for clever drudgetapositioning. Or perhaps it’s a clever way of doing a wicked drudgetaposition.

Not true tim maguire. I quite enjoy watching you people wallow in a victimized haze of conspiracy ideation. It's G_d's way of taking a dump on you judgmental racist gerrymandering Jim Crow gun toting ammunition hoarding obese puddles of melted sugar coated lard balls.

Yet again this year, Joe Biden hung a stocking for his dog, but not his youngest grandchild. What a piece of absolute garbage.

What? Where’s the signature “ upholstery” look? Have the White House staff ( that actually designed this display) forgotten how many drapes gave their lives to outfit Dr Pepper? ( aka Dr Jill).

Sad that the Twitter feed bashes Melania when much of the look she did was up for high praise when foisted by the Vogue crowd.

Between that and the sepsis, your fantasies grow increasingly amusing. Get out of that basement and seek help!

We've seen some of that hatred for Melania at Althouse blog just recently, and not always from those on the left.

Howard, we can lose weight. Can you stop doing anything that offends?

There is hardly a difference between them and the left anymore....

Really not a bad effort. I thought Melania did it better, but I would expect Melania to have better taste, given her cosmopolitan background and outlook. But this is pretty good.

I dunno. I'm enjoying his spiraling decent into....irrelevance. I am concerned, however that the mental decline has brought out a grooming tendency. Somebody should maybe do a wellness check on the grandkids.

Howard has his parties mixed up again. Senility can do that. Look at your President.

I am so old that I can remember when Biden was boasting that Delaware was slave state.

I see Howie is emptying his popgun into the closet door to get all the guys in MAGA hats he imagines are in there. Be sure to check under the bed, too.

I think it's very tasteful, very nice. I particularly like how Hunter donated the candles from his bathtub for that center-of-room display. Very 'sharing' of him.

It's about as nice as the Trump White House in 2017. Both were very nicely done. But only one of them had Melania posing in them and to misquote Robert Frost, that made all the difference."

@mikee, is that a play on Churchill's famous (if apocryphal) retort? A woman at a cocktail pary supposedly said to the Prime Minister, "Mr. Churchill, you are drunk!" And he responded, "Yes, madam, but in the morning you will still be stupid, fat, and ugly, while in the morning I'll be sober."

We can all lose weight, but for the rest of his life Howard the fool will still be stupid, obnoxious, and ugly.

Groomer Denialist Howard: "I'm just holding up a mirror, mikee. You people can dish it out but can't take it. Typical bully behavior 101. Time to sound off like you got a pair."

I suspect Howard being caught out so forcefully the past several days on his groomer-enabling Groomer Denialism is going to cause Howard to over-compensate even further in his circa 1970's faux-macho man act, as we've seen on this thread.

Lets see what else happens....

Saint Nicholas was famous for his secret gift-giving.

I wonder sometimes if the "heretic" Arius was right. There was a big fight at the Council of Nicaea, which was a political gathering where followers of Christ came up with the Nicene Creed (we still repeat it all the time in the Episcopal church) and they felt strongly about the Holy Trinity (i.e. God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirt).

Arius argued that God is supreme. I don't know the ins-and-outs of it, but on its face that doesn't strike me as an anti-Christ position. As any Christian will tell you, there's only one God. Anyway, rumor has it that Arius said something that made Saint Nick mad, and he smacked him in the face. And Saint Nick got arrested.

Sounds like a great story, right? Why make up fairy tales about the North Pole when the actual Saint Nick story is so interesting.

Saint Croix said...

Interesting that Jesus routinely referred to God as Abba ("Daddy").

You can imagine how annoying that was to more orthodox Jews who thought that was a childish and inappropriate way to speak to God. And it's very familiar, yes? Daddy!

Saint Croix said...

“I assure you,” He said, “unless you are converted and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven... (Matthew 18:3).

So that's an interesting and provocative thought.

Why should adults act like children?

Usually in the world we perceive immature adults as a big negative. We need adults to be adults. And yet here is Christ instructing us to be like children. What does he mean?

I think it's a warning to adults and know-it-alls (like me, right?!)

We don't know it all.

Think of the vast unexplored universe created by God.

What is the level of our ignorance? How much do we not know?

99%? Probably way more than 99%. Our level of ignorance is vast and unknowable. We don't know how little we know.

So that's the reminder. We are, all of us, children to God.
