"But while the risk of life-threatening diseases, dementia and death rises faster with each passing decade of a person’s life, experts in geriatrics say..."

"... that people in their 80s who are active, engaged and have a sense of purpose can remain productive and healthy — and that wisdom and experience are important factors to consider.... It is true that older people tend to decline physically, and the brain also undergoes changes. But in people who are active, experts say, the brain continues to evolve and some brain functions can even improve — a phenomenon experts call the 'neuroplasticity of aging.'... Mr. Biden did not undergo cognitive screening during his last physical, and experts are divided about its necessity for older adults.... Senator Dianne Feinstein, Democrat of California, is obviously diminished at 89; she struggles to recall the names of colleagues and what happened in meetings. Senator Charles E. Grassley, Republican of Iowa, just won re-election at 89; he will be 95 if he finishes his term. Mr. Grassley is fond of tweeting videos of his early morning runs and sometimes does push-ups at public campaign events."

From "President Biden Is Turning 80. Experts Say Age Is More Than a Number. The New York Times spoke to 10 experts in aging to paint a picture of what the next six years might look like for a person of the president’s age" (NYT).

So instead of being senile, Joe Biden is merely evil. Good to know.

But I suspect there’s a reason why he did not undergo cognitive screening.

Ann will be sharp at 80, 90.She was first in her law school class in her 20s.

Biden, OTOH, was at the bottom of his class and cheated. He’s been an idiot, liar and cheat his entire life. He’s obviously impaired.

Heck, I have a client in his 60s in the nursing home with dementia. He worked for FedEx.

News flash to the NYT. We believe our own lying eyes.

hmmm which is the cart? which is the horse?

my dad was active, engaged and had a sense of purpose.. right up til his heart problems showed up
Once he was stuck in a walker (then wheelchair, then bed); he redrew and thought his life was pointless

On the other hand, his sister (am aunt that turned 90 last year), broke her hip at 89..
It took weeks before she was walking (1st with a walker, then with a cane). Of course, she was Very Determined to NOT be an invalid

Biden is a senile moron. He's always been a moron, he's been senile since 2019. There's a video of him bragging about how he strong armed the Ukrainians to fire the prosecutor who was investigating his worthless son, Hunter. He looks and sounds vibrant. Not in 2020, when he was exhibiting signs of Alzheimer's, with belligerence and forgetfulness. Now he's just a boob who attempts to do what his handlers tell him, but often fails miserably.

Mark said...

She's "obviously diminished" because she is on the outs with progressives, including NYT. Biden is not yet on the outs, so he is perfectly healthy and mentally sharp, just like they say that Fetterman is.

In the U.S., there are no FAA age limits for pilots except for commercial airline pilots employed by airlines certificated under 14 CFR Part 121. These airlines cannot employ pilots after they reach the age of 65.

However, these pilots may stay on with a Part 121 carrier in some other role, such as flight engineer.

FAA

But the guy with his finger on the nuclear button can go on for ever ... four years at a crack.

No cognitive test at his last phusical? Then the NYT is making claims without evidence.

If Biden's handlers had any sense they would keep him the White House under lock and only let cabinet officers speak. It would keep our adversaries guessing how impaired Biden is and who really is running the country. It would appear as if some ad hoc Politburo is running the country but with an undisclosed Secretary General of the Democrat Party. If Biden was able to campaign out of his basement and garner 81 million ballots surely he can be trotted out for an occasional public holiday speech from the Potemkin Oval Office.

Tim: "Don't ask, don't tell." Which is the tell.

Of course, we are mere bystanders observing the customs of our overlords, but what does it say about the NYT and its audience that they like to deny the obvious?

Biden can't even ride a bike without falling. The last thing we need him to do is go running at 4 am.

Grassley is impressive. Perhaps we can get Joe to race him one 4 am.

I'm 73 and they haven't done cognitive testing on me in three years. It's like it fell out of the annual wellness exam for some reason.

The doctors probably think they can tell just from talking to you.

Good for Grassley. He's good man too. One of the few who will die in office with dignity and morals.

Nobody needs "experts" to tell them that age is more than a number. The rest of us can see it with our own eyes.

The idea in Washington is to keep having events, to keep giving the media "stories" so that they don't go hunting for their own. Biden doesn't have much to worry about from the Establishment media, but his team aren't taking any chances, so they let him go in front of the camera rather than risk "Why Is The President Hiding In The Basement?" stories. I see Biden's gaffes and ineptitude every day, but I don't know what people who just follow the Establishment media or get their news from Facebook or Twitter are seeing.

Good for him. But he's too old to be a Senator. I plan to be doing what he's doing at that age and I hope I will be. But I would not expect that my mind and energy- even if it's good- will be better for my state than a younger person.

My favorite part of the Senior Wellness Exam is when they ask me if I've felt like killing myself recently. My doc asks it as he's looking squarely at his rolling laptop, not even noticing there's a live person to whom he's asking that question. He's just checking off the boxes. I'm so close to just giving him bullshit answers to the 'senior questions', but I know these things will electronically slide across to the State Overseers and my wife will end up opening the door Health and Human Services people who will be there to 'help' me.

"Yes, Doc. I'm depressed as hell. Yes, I fall over and lose my balance regularly. I fell just sitting in this seat waiting 45 minutes for you to stop in and bless me with your presence. Yes, I thought about killing myself rather than be asked these insipid questions again. No, I have no idea what day, time, week, month it is. And I don't know who you are. Did I pass?"

I'd like to do that...just once at some point in my life.

Sure, SOME people are sharp as a tack until far beyond 80. Sure, there are factors that may increase your odds of holding back father time. Sure, Biden has many of those factors in his life.

But to extrapolate to say Biden just "had a stutter" or that we should ignore our lying eyes and unfaithful ears....

Apparently credibility is not a valued commodity taught in J school.

My mother, who was 13 years older than Biden, used to say that he had half his brain scooped out with a melon baller. I was surprised to find that she was referring to the brain surgery he'd had in 1988. That may be relevant to a discussion of his mental fitness.

To their credit, experts are not willing to diagnose Biden from afar. That isn't ethical for anyone, but there is certainly evidence that a cognitive screening should be done of Biden. Having a healthy mind for an 80 year-old is not the same as having a mind healthy enough for a president. Tests should be done with the results released to the public, and let the voters decide.

My maternal grandfather died at age 89 in 2015. He was very active right up until he was 85, and mentally all there. Then he was given a blood pressure medication change that made it difficult for him to stand without vertigo. It was all downhill after that.

Grassley is still very acute mentally- I have watched portions recent committee hearings he co-chairs- I don't detect any real deficits at all. He no doubt has good genetic material behind this longevity, but the physical activity contributes a great deal, too.

I'll be 78 on December 10 and every two years I can still remember an apple, a watch, and a penny. Also, I'm getting better at drawing a clock that shows that it's 15 minutes after 11.

Biden is not a normal 80 year old. He has been a liar and dissembler since he was 30. What we see now is the end result of such a useless life. His entire family are crooks and his daughter, with whom he took showers when she was a child, is a screwed up mess, as is his son.

@Temujin, if your state has red flag laws answering this question in the affirmative could lead to sheriff’s deputies or police officers kicking down your door and tearing your house apart looking for guns.

and my wife will end up opening the door Health and Human Services people who will be there to 'help' me.

Be glad you don’t live in Canada, where their “help” would be in the form of forging your signature onto a request to be euthanized.
