"She was around in the early 1960s when JFK was cutting a swath through his aides at the White House..."

"... which served as preparation for the moment she became world-famous. That was at the end of January 1998, when she became the public representative of Linda Tripp, the intimate (and betrayer) of Monica Lewinsky, whose taped phone calls (taped on Lucianne’s advice) revealed the relationship between Lewinsky and President Clinton. You’ve probably forgotten, but I haven’t, the hilarious spectacle of a hundred reporters standing on the sidewalk at 84th and Broadway in front of Lucianne’s building as she calmly and with a Cheshire-cat smile replied to the screams of America’s journalists. 'That’s not a Linda Tripp question,' she would say, in her sing-song voice, if they asked what the agenda was here, or the angle, or whatever. Sure, she had an agenda, and she was totally honest about it. She didn’t like Clinton, either personally or ideologically, and wanted to see him laid low, and unlike other people who’ve been in the destroy-the-president game, she didn’t make any bones about it. When Lewinsky-gate ultimately came a cropper, she was even-keeled. 'If you go at the king, you’d best kill the king,' she said, 'and we didn’t.'"

From "Lucianne Goldberg, 1935-2022" by John Podhoretz (Commentary).

Lots more at the link, but let me quote this too: "She could tell you...  how incredibly depressing it was to spend time with Charles Schulz, who drew 'Peanuts'... 'They called him Sparky... It was the most inappropriate nickname ever.'"

Satiric/Ironic nicknames are the standard, not inappropriate.

Charles Schulz...zzz zzz...Peanuts...zzz...zzz...

He lived in the town of Santa Rosa, California. They put Peanuts statues/sculptures all over town to facilitate tourism.

I had read articles by her and saw her do numerous interviews during and after the Clinton years, but I really knew nothing about her. It sounds as if she was a hoot. A very entertaining person to be around. And she certainly led an interesting life. Some people learn early in life to just go for it, do what's in your gut and don't concern yourself with what others think or say. Those who like you will find their way to you. Those who don't, won't. RIP.

I did not know she was Jonah Goldberg's mother.

I always wondered. The cartoon was about a half-full glass.

Almost Famous for having a gag cigar explode in her face. She did gift the Republic Party a Jonah.

Even when I was younger, I never "cut a swath".

Oh, I've tickled a few beans, planted a few acorns, sown some wild oats, and plowed my share of furrows. There's been some coming through the rye along the way, some ripe cherries plucked and apples picked.

In my later years, I've gleaned some autumn fields, gathered bent ears of corn, and even left the occasional phosphorescent wake gleaming in the moonlight.

But I never "cut a swath".

Alas.

I have much more respect for her than for her son, Jonah.

I have a good deal of respect for what Lucianne Goldberg attempted to do and her motivation regarding Clinton. I even understand the issue of wanting to destroy him yet being charmed by Bill Clinton at the same time. But JPod’s article is the typical teasing, “I know something you only think you know”, commentary that has made him and Lucianne’s son so useless to any cause. It is all innuendo, which is salacious yet lacking in anything substantive to be acted upon.

Next, do Susan Rice. She's been a leftist hit man her entire career.

Its good that she had the courgage to help Linda Tripp. Too bad she and her son were fake cons who divided and weakened the conservative movement.

BTW, JFK was having sex and "Pool parties" with numerous girls who worked at the white house while Jackie was away. Today we'd call that "Sexual harrassment". But the NYT's cutely calls it "Cutting a swath". Has any Feminist written a negative book about JFK?

And the we have the constant double standard. Tripp was a "Snitch" who "betrayed" confidences. But every tattle-tell with Trump, Bush, or Reagan was labeled "brave & courageous" and praised for "putting ethics or the country before party".

I'm so old I can remember when she flounced off Free Republic, because she didn't like seeing any criticism of Israel and started her own discussion website. It was carefully moderate mainstream and banned anyone too rightwing. I haven't looked at it in 15 years, and don't know if it still exists. Twitter/Facebook probably killed it off. I assume she was a Nevertrumper.

Temujin: "I did not know she was Jonah Goldberg's mother."

She was the reason the Goucher College All-Star, Jonah, was placed in the republican/conservative firmament in the first place. He never would have made it on his own, clearly, and Jonah has since found his proper place amongst the far left and is solely funded by wealthy leftists to undermine actual conservatives and conservative policies.

Not sure it 'came a cropper.' The horndog was impeached when being impeached still meant something.

And it has followed Clinton and his wife around since then.

What people don't remember is that after Clinton lied to the face of everyone in his cabinet, not a single person had the conviction to resign.

And libs say that Trump is leading a cult...

So Goldberg used Linda Tripp for ideological reasons but more likely financial ones.

The Gloria Allred of the Right.

Paraphrasing here. At one time when Schulz’s marriage was falling apart, his son Monty asked him why he didn’t go to therapy to address his depression and anxieties. Schulz’s response: But what would happen to the strip? Apparently his inspiration came from his dark side.

People are more interesting than the sum of their politics.Lucianne and her son Jonah are two examples of people that I would enjoy knowing, regardless of political differences.

I always thought that if it wasn't for Linda Tripp and the stained blue dress, Lewinsky would have been run over by a car or committed Epstein suicide.

I also always thought swordplay was a great way of saying "guy in perpetual heat". I remember David Niven has a great reputation as a swordsman.

Lucianne’s website is still around and it’s fabulous. She was pro Trump, conservative, and an excellent writer. I will miss her.

Yup and Howard would have cheered.

Linda Tripp “betrayed” Lewinsky. By not lying to the FBI, and by telling Lewinsky to protect herself by keeping the evidence.

Hey Drag Queen,

What public policy positions does Jonah Goldberg take that undermine “actual conservative policies”?

As near as I can tell his sin is that he rejects the Trump cult and is disdainful of the Trump cultists.

My guess is that you wouldn’t know what a “true conservative” is even if he/her punched you in the face.

John Podhoretz, a mediocre son of a highly accomplished father and one whose resume comprises in largest part writing columns for the magazine his dad founded and ran, has to get a dig in against the late Charles Shulz, a guy with timeless accomplishments that have touched the hearts of people of all ages and backgrounds who have read his Peanuts comics, because John-boy is a small, small man at heart.

What a pathetic loser he's just shown himself to be. He didn't need to bring Schulz into Goldberg's obituary, and yet here we are, watching a pathetic, inferiority-consumed man all but explicitly admit to knowing he failed to measure up in his father's eyes. Own-goal of the decade.

John Podhoretz and Jonah Goldberg have in common that they are pale shadows of their accomplished parents, and both carry themselves with the pudgy, cheeto-dust-fingered flatulent air of failures who wear their impostor syndrome like the latex skin suits of bondage gimps.

Two more "establishment Republican 'conservative' braintrust" types who'd benefit from a regime of colon hydrotherapy.

"Betrayer"?

It was Linda Tripp who kept Monica from taking her stained dress off to dry cleaning.

Without that dress she would have been the "little bit nutty, little bit slutty" White House Intern who made up a relationship with the President.

It wasn't Tripp who betrayed Monica

Did anybody really think Charlie Schulz wasn't depressive?

It was interesting, though, how he made his 1930s childhood part of the childhood of millions of Boomers and many Xers.

Actually in 40 years of voting I can count the Democrats that I have selected in a multi-party election in one hand.

Don’t think you inability to answer the question went unnoticed.

There are many former conservatives who succumbed to TDS and changed actual positions due to Trump. People like Kristol, Rubin, and Boot, however, that does not describe Goldberg who has been consistent in his beliefs through the decades.

Meanwhile, WAPO attacked her as the big bad lady who leaked the Clinton tapes. No word about what a pig Clinton was and is, but she is bad for bringing it to light. The paper is not even good enough to cover the bottoms of bird cages. https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2022/10/washington_post_demonstrates_how_crummy_it_is_by_writing_obnoxious_obit_about_lucianne_goldberg.html
