"Weighted fish." I got hung up on that headline. Didn't know what it was about. Writing good headlines is hard. (Incidentally, I tweet as @HEADLINES_Etc)
Also, the tail of a whale or part of an anchor that digs into the ground. A fluke isn't Bolsonaro.
Should we discuss the notion that the science of "what is something" is once again a democratic thing rather than a deterministic process using the scientific method?
Besides being a kind of fish, and a whale's tail, and the pointy parts of an anchor, and an unlikely event, a fluke is also a member of a group of parasitic trematodes under the phylum Platyhelminthes.
Fluke is also the name of a major manufacturer of signal diagnostic equipment, which is another instance of Althouse synchronicity. Not one hour ago someone asked me to suggest a brand of reliable and accurate diagnostic instruments. I said I know of one but the name escaped me at that moment. Then I looked at this thread and the name FLUKE hit me like a thunderclap. Something strange has been going on between my brain and this blog for years.
Synchronicity aside, it is also strange that such a non-euphonious word should mean so many unrelated things.
WaPo is casting side-by-side headlines like Drudge Report. The fish story has a great Mark Twain aspect to it, a twist on The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County. I’m reading on NPR that the big-time fishing contests have instituted lie detector tests.

I would have written that headline just for the halibut.
I would demand an apology if I wasn't sure one was already in the works.
Shouldn't that be "fishingpersons"?

Maybe, but I'd have thrown it back in.
But, did they cry?
A light fish the size of a heavy fish.
The problem is in the small headline at the right.
The problem is in the small headline at the right.
It is a whale of a headline that keeps you anchored, bigger and heavier than the larger headline.
What was the problem?
Is it that “wasn’t” is a widow?
The WaPo thought Trump was a fluke but they pursued him like Captain Ahab...
Voters thought Biden was a grouper.
Then they found out he was a groper.
And a crappie one at that.
a fluke is another name for a fish - called a summer flounder
Ann,
Can you read that off for those of us who can't read the small print, and/or didn't get to the WaPo early enough?
That was just a fluke, won't happen again
Not worth carping about.

the politically correct term, is fishers
This all seems like a lot to carp about
Not allowing for the possibility that attempts to cheat is always possible allows more cheating to take place than would otherwise.
We cheat ourselves into believing cheating is rare. How else would Lance Armstrong win all those titles?

In the primary, Marxist Thief Lula out-polled Bolsonaro by 7 million votes. They face off on October 30th.
A huge election for Brazil.
