You tech-heads need to read Ennos's "The Age of Wood." Fascinating stuff. The title sums up the thesis--that the Age of Wood is always, and never ended. He reframes the narrative from focusing on stone and metal by showing how dependent stone- and metal-working were on skill with and understanding of wood--and how much work with stone and metal was about making the most of wood.
We were up in Brainard a few days ago. It was getting late and the sun was setting.. but a surprise cloud formation was observed... above the lush green. I wish I could send it to you for a post. It has the juice... and was even better with butter.
Thinking about cartoons earlier reminded me of this video essay by Every Frame Is A Painting on youtube that some of you might find interesting. It touches on the evolution of Looney Toons animation - and also examines why the visual gags were so funny, and some of the rules of the world Chuck Jones how built.
The channel also covers a lot of other great topics (really fond of this one about editing comedic fight scenes featuring Jackie Chan) that are worth checking out if you have an interest in visual storytelling.
Today Scott Adams made an interesting point. He said Trump’s biggest mistake was to threaten Hillary Clinton with jail. She and everyone involved with the secret server and the cover up felt personally threatened by his attacks. That was the motivation behind “Russian collusion” “the pee tape” etc.
Eva Marie said...Trump’s biggest mistake was to threaten Hillary Clinton with jail.
Maybe, but he dropped it the moment the election was over. I don't think Trump ever really intended to lock her up, it certainly was in her interest to move on and let everyone forget about it.
"She and everyone involved with the secret server and the cover up felt personally threatened by his attacks. That was the motivation behind “Russian collusion” “the pee tape” etc."
What was the motivation behind promoting Trump in the first place? What was the motivation in selling the DNC to the Clinton campaign? What you're seeing is an economic class trying to project itself into a ruling class. They're self-actualized - if Trump wasn't around they'd be doing the same things to other people.
The Ukrainian war is full of surprises. Russia which is the largest country in the world attacks Ukraine which is the size of Texas. Russia Forces have two million men; Ukraine has two hundred thousand. Ukraine fights Russia to a standstill. And everybody goes "hmmm, the times they are achangin." Then Ukraine counterattacks. But Ukraine is trying to regain its own territory so it doesn't rain down indiscriminate fire and steel on every village that holds or might hold a Russian soldier while screaming brutal insults and loud demands for surrender. Ukraine is doing something but this is a stealth counter-offensive. No one knows which direction in which you see soldiers moving is the real mainline of attack and which is one of many fakes to confuse the Russians. The Ukrainians aren't posting videos of their soldiers on social media - just the occasional smoke billowing in the air from another destroyed Russian weapon warehouse or command center. It's as if Robin Hood were surrounding the Sheriff of Nottingham's castle, stealthily by night, assisted in secret by the unknown knight who is really Richard the Lionheart.
“He dropped it the moment the election was over.” Maybe that was the motivation behind Comey’s actions. A quick accusation/exoneration before the election. Just in case Trump became President.
Hillary is corrupt. She is the legit villain. Implying Trump brought it on himself is victim blaming, no? He only said out loud what everyone knows, FPS.
Wonder-full photos...thank you so much! Sunrise photos over large bodies of water are something I always appreciate. <3
With so many rapidly changing definitions of basic vocabulary to accommodate the "woke world", I would like to define "1st world privilege" w/o regard to race, from my real life perspective @ 60 years:
1st World Privilege:
IF you grew up with at least 1 parent who loved you, told you so daily, read you books as a child, supported your intellectual & emotional development, and only (if ever) hit you because you needed it to make an important point about punishment as a result of your poor choices....you are both privileged & blessed. Too many of us grew up without some or any of that so if you had that...you were seriously privileged. As a result, you have been blessed by success & wealth and maybe even widespread recognition for your achievements. But privilege has nothing to do with skin color. Trust me...I know. Life is a Labor...count whatever blessings you hold in your hand in this moment. Labor to be happy...
I didn't take "Lock Her Up" very seriously. Did anybody?
What went on may look like a departure from standard operating procedure, but only because 1) we know so much about it, and 2) because the Democrats and the bureaucracy thought Trump was somehow different than other politicians -- either more of a threat or just easier to take down.
In the second debate when Hillary Clinton said that it’s a good thing DT isn’t President (words to that effect), Donald Trump answers, “because you’d be in jail.”
Ah yes, our new judge is rolling all over the deck, smashing into masts and gun-turrets, dangerously blasting standing and running rigging lines. You can call her "Loose Cannon."
“All right. They’re on our left, they’re on our right, they’re in front of us, they’re behind us … They can’t get away this time.” (Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Lewis B. “Chesty” Puller)
Quote attributed to Puller while Chinese forces surrounded his men at the Chosin Reservoir. The Marines were expected to fight what essentially amounted to a doomed delaying action as the Chinese wiped them out. Instead, the Marines broke out and slaughtered their way through multiple enemy divisions.
For the second time in his life, Andrew Weisman comes across a judge that actually respects the rule of law. The last time was when his Enron convictions were overturned for prosecutorial misconduct. Sal Greco @ HeadoftheTable
Here is the BIGGEST laugh you will have all day. Maybe ALL year!! It's enough to make you puke in your mouth a little bit. (sorry for the visual...but SERIOUSLY!!) https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2022/09/hillary-clinton-reveals-always-wears-pantsuits-suggestive-photos-used-sell-lingerie/
I think Adams as paraphrased by Eva is not wrong but don't forget that Hillary was using the FBI investigation to shield her activities from Congressional investigation.
MSNBC dug deep in the political boneyard this morning. None other than Chris Matthews surfaced on this morning's broadcast. The Me Too movement is so yesterday.

"Erstwhile Naked Babies" would make a good band name.
I keep seeing comments from "Unknown," and I'm not the only one.
Beautiful pics!

Is everyday Labor Day when you're retired?

No way. That's too much work.

"Rain! Our crops are saved!"
Remembering an old commercial from 40 years ago.
And in one day we go from months of drought warnings to flash flood warnings.

"I didn't take "Lock Her Up" very seriously. Did anybody?"
No doubt the left did. Because they were afraid they'd been found out and it might happen.
Just had an hour and half blackout in one of the richest areas of the richest state in the country.
Everything liberals touch turns to shit.
'That was the motivation behind “Russian collusion” “the pee tape” etc.'
I agree with him on a lot of things, but they didn't need motivation; they're just leftist, power-hungry pricks.
Hillary pulled that stunt to ensure a win, and when she lost she wanted to destroy his presidency.
As seen on Insty: The FBI searched Barron Trump's room before they did Hunter Biden's.
Ah yes, our new judge is rolling all over the deck, smashing into masts and gun-turrets, dangerously blasting standing and running rigging lines. You can call her "Loose Cannon."
Loose cannon? I sure hope so.
