That is a great movie and a fantastic scene. On of the most moving ever in cinema, so good to know the backstory. At the time I first saw it I hadn’t had that kind of loss and it still moved me so . I have since. Good for Mandy Patinkin and so kind

About six months after my father died suddenly, I was at home and heard a car pull up out front. Then I heard footsteps on the stairs, and for a split second my brain told me, "Dad's home." And in another split second I realized it wasn't him, couldn't be him, it was my brother. The sound my brother made coming up the stairs was identical with footfalls I didn't even know I remembered from my late father.
Remembrance of loved ones is a powerful force. I agree with both the young woman and Patinkin in saying, "I want my father back, you son of a bitch."
I lost Mommy to suicide, just before I turned four. A half-century later, I understand that two people died that day; her, and the man I was supposed to become. Godspeed, Mandy…

About 10 years ago, I participated in a community event and was getting recognized for it. I was a little embarrassed because while my contribution was helpful, it cost me next to nothing in terms of time and effort. While the rest were getting recognized, I suddenly heard my Dad's voice like he was sitting next to me. He had been gone over 5 years and my Mom nearly 10 at that point. What he told me was that he and Mom wanted me to know that they were proud of me, but that they couldn't stay. They needed to be with my sister-in-law who was in another crisis in her years-long cancer battle. She survived that one and a few more before she lost the battle, but with each crisis I recalled the peace I felt when I heard those words. At the moment we feel most alone, I believe there are loved ones around us.
Princess Bride - opening night
During the opening weekend of Princess Bride, this editor had the pleasure of being a performer at the Renaissance Festival. The promoters came out and handed out three hundred tickets to the Glennwood Theater (ritzy) showing to the performers.
Watching it in a house full of Medieval costumed actors is the optimal method of viewing this particular movie.
I would wager that when Inigo uttered that famous line there was no larger crowd who leapt to their feet simultaneously and cheered a the top of their lungs.

Btw, as much as I love Mandy Patinkin as a singer (and I saw him in Evita and in concert) he has a reputation as being a prima donna and a world-class asshole.
Just when I start to go sour on the whole of us killer apes, something like this happens.
I don't like Patinkin as an actor or a man, and I'm willing to bet dollars to donuts that the young lady and I have very different politics.

I tried twice. This was unwatchable. First, the tattoos and those old people on the left who were never introduced until a minute and half in when they (sort of) introduced themselves.
The sentiments were treacly. Clearly deeply meaningful to them, but why are we watching this? This is part of the damaging side of social media--the public performance of private emotions. And, yes, I get that the connection might not have happened without Tik Tok, but so what? Why should it matter if the story is true and we got to hear it from Patinkin himself? What does that change?
