Biden dances 30,000 feet above the hurricane.

The goofy Politico headline caught my eye: "Biden's delicate midterm dance."

I clicked, wondering what kind of absurd credit is he getting now, but I see it's pre-boosting him as the hurricane approaches:

The storm bearing down on Florida forced President Joe Biden to scrap plans to deliver a politically-charged speech in the state. But he campaigned anyway, from behind a podium* in the Rose Garden....

The moment may have been refashioned by Hurricane Ian. But it reflected the approach the White House hopes to adopt less than six weeks before the midterms. The president has eased into a familiar cadence: He’s raising cash for Democrats and echoing the big-picture themes the party wants emphasized; he’s doing just enough to stay visible, but not so much that he becomes a heavier anchor....

Biden himself has, to this point, been comfortable with the lighter public footprint...

... Biden has embraced the idea of being helpful at a 30,000-foot level, sharpening his attacks in speeches to paint the Republicans writ large as out of touch and extreme....

So he's way up in the sky, sharpening and painting and writing in large letters?

So, just to confirm, Biden's priority as a damn near Cat 5 hurricane is about to hit Florida is....

Raising cash for Democrats.

The tone-deafness is absurd. This type of stuff was once rightfully called out by the press as abdication of duty. Once upon a time, the press would gently mock a President for golfing during a weeks or months long crisis. At least golfing was, in many ways, a Presidents way of decompressing to re-sharpen the mind.

Here we have a President actively putting energy into politics, including focusing an enormous core staff on event management.

If Ian causes damage, guess who the media will blame: DeSantis. Not, of course, Joe Biden, who apparently is openly refusing to cooperate with DeSantis.

Used to be, "politics stopped at the water's edge." And when it came time to help Americans who have suffered natural disasters. But Joe Biden and the left are apparently going to try the "Well, it's a Republican area so they deserve it and we won't do anything." tactic.

Because their top goal is "punching down" and abusing power and punishing those who they don't like.

Still, good to know that now we can ignore California when the Big One hits and wipes San Fran off the map. Don't they "deserve it" after all?

And think of the money we'll save by not using federal tax dollars at all!

They're in good shape with a newly constructed house built to withstand these storms. Ten miles inland. He said most of the retirement community was staying put. I would doubt any of them consider Joe Biden a hurricane resource.

But, I'm sure we'll soon hear the typical bullshit claims of "Climate Change causes hurricanes" and "its Ron DeSantis' fault" soon enough.

I'd imagine there is a good percentage of liberals out there that hope this goes as bad as possible 1) to punish Florida for not going along with the fake totalitarian climate change program, and 2) to damage DeSantis.

But...I'm sure Governor DeSantis is prepared for this. He's not an incompetent, senile, corrupt douchebag like our installed fake President.

I wonder who made the decision to ignore DeSantis and call Democrat Mayors in the runup to the hurricane? There is no doubt that Democrats are hoping for, and preparing for, another Katrina PR effort. Bush was caught unawares, as he was by many things, DeSantis is more agile in the PR field.

Temujin said...

Biden refused to call Governor DeSantis while this hurricane was building. He, instead, called up the Mayors of Tampa, St. Pete, and Clearwater, to offer Federal help, ignoring the dynamic Governor of the nation's third largest state. Also ignoring the Mayors of the cities and towns where the hurricane is actually hitting. DeSantis has this state wired...so far. We'll see how things progress. But from where I'm sheltered in place, I'm much more comfortable knowing that DeSantis and his team are on this, and have the recovery plans ready and waiting to jump in, rather than the bungling corps of bureaucratic mouthpieces, led by the Classless One, Joe Biden.

The difference between DeSantis and Biden could not be more glaringly obvious than their behavior and reaction to this hurricane. Biden, as would be expected, shows he is classless and clueless. I still cannot believe there were 81 million people foolish enough, or still breathing, who voted for him.

Mike said...

Our "unifying" President called three Florida city mayors (presumably all Democrats) about the approach of the storm---but ignored the Governor of the State. Those of us with a few brain cells left will recall problems Dubya had in getting help to Louisiana in a major storm. Dubya needed an act by the Louisian governor in order to implement Federal aid. And the Governor, a Democrat, refused to act. Of course Dubya got blamed for the failure.

Biden was finally shamed into giving DeSantis a call yesterday. Of course Slow Joe didn't recall the Louisiana hurricane debacle. But then Joe can't recall whether he had corn flakes or cheerios for breakfast this morning.

Well for one (to stay on topic) if the Russians nuked DC it would be disastrous for the Earth's climate since all the Democrat gods who can save us from Hurricanes would be dead. Global warming would then be completely out of control and there would be hurricanes in Wisconsin by the following year.

Although a bit off topic, the fact that the Democrat and deep state controlled media are basically silent on the Nord Stream sabotage lets you know the US did it. Of course the US was quick to blame Russia. Why would Russia sabotage their own pipeline when they can just turn it off at the start of it?

But I'm sure the same Democrat voters that believe cow farts cause hurricanes, and that Amy Klobuchar can stop them...will also believe Putin blew up Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2.

I hope they are well. I would not trust any wooden house to take 155 mile winds.

My house sits up on a hill, fully exposed. When Maria hit in 2017, we got directly hit with 155-160mph winds. I've been through 3 other cat 2 and higher hurricanes (Hugo, Georges, Irma) in this house but was not prepared for Maria.

My house is reinforced concrete construction, including a reinforced concrete roof.

At one point during the height of the storm, the harmonics got just right and the entire house started vibrating. It was vibrating to the point where I worried about the structural integrity and told my wife to be ready to go outside if it got worse. Yeah, it was that bad I thought we might be safer outside than inside. And outside was dangerous as Hell.

Luckily it only lasted for a minute or so. But that was long enough to dislodge some plaster.

My storm windows held up (1/2" plywood and #12 corrugated aluminum and we suffered no other damage. A lot of others were not so fortunate.

My daughter's house, about 1/4 mile away and in a more protected location, had much of the paint blown off.

I worry about the folks in Florida. This is really, really, bad.

Well, the funny thing is that Mississippi, with a GOP governor, was right next door to New Orleans and was hit just as hard by Katrina. Ocean Springs, where I had friends, was wiped out. There was no publicity, no TV, no exaggeration of the damage. In fact, I saw almost nothing about the damage in MS on TV. It was ignored by the media. Wonder why ? There was no hysteria. Things were repaired quickly with minimal crime and looting. In short, there was no political story. And lots of the repairs were done by volunteers.

podium (n.)

1743, in architecture, "raised platform around an ancient arena" (upon which sat persons of distinction), also "projecting base of a pedestal," from Latin podium "raised platform," from Greek podion "foot of a vase," diminutive of pous (genitive podos) "foot," from PIE root *ped- "foot." Meaning "raised platform at the front of a hall or stage" is by 1947.

lectern (n.)
early 14c., lettorne, lettron, "reading-desk in a church," from Old French letron, from Medieval Latin lectrinum, from Late Latin lectrum "lectern," from root of Latin legere "to read," literally "to gather, choose," from PIE root *leg- (1) "to collect, gather," with derivatives meaning "to speak (to 'pick out words')." Half-re-Latinized in English in 15c. For form, OED compares mulctrum "milking-pail" from mulgere "to milk."

- etymonline.com

The misunderstanding could be attributed to semantic drift (e.g. urban effect, social conflation, political science).
