All this annual whining about 9/11 is demeans America. The right attitude at the time was somebody's got to be bombed. The rest since then is entertainment for women.
Jeez watch a few youtube films on the war in the pacific for example. Have some standards.
“Thomas More: ...And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned around on you--where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat? This country's planted thick with laws from coast to coast--man's laws, not God's--and if you cut them down...d'you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then? Yes, I'd give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety's sake.” ― Robert Bolt, A Man for All Seasons
University of Nebraska head football coach today fired after 3 games. $15m buyout. If the University would have waited until October 1, buyout only $7.5m.
He lost twice as many games as he won, but was paid over $40m.
Watched the Baz Luhrman Elvis movie on HBOMax last night. The actor's physicality was more Travolta than Elvis, but it was a fine mythic retelling of the legend. Luhrman chose to have Colonel Parker as the narrator. A lot of time line shuffling and and something wrong about Elvis's hair - didn't have that vaseline and hairspray resistance to displacement but worth a watch.
The discussion of oaths to the King had me looking up the one for M.P.'s.
Oath to the sovereign 'under law.' That's an instance of what in other cases--European constitutions are always trotted out--are criticized as weasel words. The citizens of Lower Slobbovia have every right you can think of, 'under law.' No inalienable rights, just whatever the current law allows.
The Brits also have a Chief of Defense Forces, whose power is derived from the king and ministers under law, but unlike our President the King is not given military authority in his person. He's only the King.
Nobody ever said the British constitution made sense.
I am dismayed to note that the DOJ claims that “No one is above the law” in order to pursue an investigation of Trump, while also arguing, effectively, that “We are above the law” in their appeal against a Special Master in the same case. Thou must not question us!! WTH? Who is on the tiller?
"All this annual whining about 9/11 is demeans America. The right attitude at the time was somebody's got to be bombed. The rest since then is entertainment for women."
Who do those women vote for? People who will do something about it or people who will bow their heads and apologize for not being accepting enough of other cultures? You know- those cultures who see nothing wrong with killing innocent civilians in the advancement of their cause.

we all (w'all?) at the Big12 are VERY IRKED, that you Cornholers decided to leave, And get shitty If you're NOT going to beat the shit out of the Hawkeyes? WHAT ARE YOU DOING?? If you're going to be puchovers, Why didn't you stay???
Bush was right to send Special Forces to Afghanistan soon after 9/11. His critical mistake was to send Big Army to spend 20 years floundering around. Nobody could make a nation out of Afghanistan. Alexander the Great could not do it.
Kenyan television informs us that with the death of Queen Elizabeth her eldest son, Prince Charles automatically becomes queen. That will be worth seeing. What will the new queen be wearing?
Shadow Line is a Cold War spy drama that is a little implausible, but interesting and suspenseful. It is mostly in Finnish and concerned with Finnish politics and a little hard to follow, but so far it's pretty good. I can also recommend The Optimists (mostly in Russian) and Deutschland 83 (mostly, naturally enough, in German). The sequels Deutschland 86 and Deutschland 89 have come out in Germany, but I haven't been able to find them in the states.
Our beloved leader, Dark Brandon, is coming to Boston tomorrow with the cure for cancer! If I had a reason and the time to go into the city I'd cheer him on and signal my worshipful approval with a one finger salute, but I don't so I won't.
There's a lot of talk about the emasculation of the West, about how the "manly" men now are the ones who wax their chests and spend at least as much on skin and hair care as their women, big muscles and ready curses notwithstanding.
But what's the word for the defeminization of the West? Where are the Spartan women who told their men - even or especially their sons - "With your shield or on it"? The Molly Pitchers who didn't just run to take their husbands' place at the guns, but first and foremost supported their men's decision to fight? The Abigail Adamses? The Louisa May Alcotts, who, raised on peace and pacifism, nevertheless served in the battlefield hospitals and spoke strongly on behalf of those who fought - as my dad's unit motto said - "that others may live"?
(My dad flew rescue almost his entire Air Force career. He was a much-decorated pilot and a recognized hero. That motto still chokes me up, but it can apply just as much to warfighters as to rescue, ISTM.)
It's not easy to be that kind of woman, any more than it is easy to be the kind of men who pledges his life, his fortune, and his sacred honor to a cause. It doesn't come naturally to allow - much less to encourage - the men you love to make that pledge.
What has happened to saying, "I could not love thee, dear, so much/Loved I not honor more"? Am I one of those people? I can only hope so, never having been tested - or, more correctly, I can only resolve to be so if I am tested.
Don't worry Mason, Jebus is on our side. The US killed nearly 400,000 innocent civilians since 911. None of these murders done in our name were executed in the country that attacked us: Saudi Arabia. Instead we citizens were told to go shopping in response.
"University of Nebraska head football coach today fired after 3 games. $15m buyout. If the University would have waited until October 1, buyout only $7.5m."
My Hoosiers bring their crimson clad butts to Lincoln on the 2nd of October, Dave. I'll credit the fear that the phrase "Indiana football" brings to the human condition. I'll let myself out while the rest of you laugh at that. Only an Indiana fan fears Indiana football.
In 1975, I went on a drunken road trip to Lincoln to see our boys annihilated by the human roadgrader that was Nebraska football at the time. Other than the game itself, it was top shelf 70's anarchy at its best.
When something matters as much as this does to the people it matters to, eventually "not one more day of this" arrives, to the tune of millions of dollars. People are funny that way.
The US response in the middle east has been and continues to be an unmitigated disaster. It started with Bush's quest to dethrone Saddam. How anyone could put their (blind) faith in the federal government mystifies me.
It continues today with Fauci, Pealosi, Schumer, Biden, and his cabinet of buffoons. Want better education? Create a federal Dept of Education. Gag me. Want more energy? Create a Dept of No Energy and a bankrupt Solyndra. The federal Reserve pumped so much money into the economy, they are backed into a corner. Raise rates, kill the economy or keep pumping and watch inflation continue to rise. Fed Chairman Powell is befuddled. Yesterday VP Harris reiterated the border is secure. Baghdad Bob is envious.
"The US killed nearly 400,000 innocent civilians since 911. None of these murders done in our name were executed in the country that attacked us: Saudi Arabia"
Weird. If I actually believed that I would leave America. What is your excuse for staying?
No skeets,(skeet ?) were flying yesterday, but the cottonwood shed a lot of branches as cottonwoods do given any strong wind. So spent the morning picking up branches. I admit I enjoyed the autumn feel to the day.
Then: July 14, 1933—The Nazi party is declared the only political party in Germany. Dissidents are rounded up. By July 31, the Nazis will have captured 30,000 people, most of them political enemies.
Now: August 8, 2022—A government agency—that a well-dressed lad with a gorgeous crop of hair dares to call “the Democrats’ Gestapo“—raids the home of Donald Trump, the Republican most likely to run for president in 2024. One month later, Steve Bannon and roughly 35 other Trump associates are raided or subpoenaed by the FBI.

I'm interested in your theory, Howard. How many were Taliban who were not wearing uniforms and could not be shot at when they were lobbing mortars into US bases ?
Based on Russia's reaction to the Ukrainian counteroffensive, I am going to infer that it really was a big hit against Russia. Now Russia is ratcheting up the war to NATO rules, which as Howard has pointed out, means lots of civilian casualties, not just exaggerations on Twitter, but dead people on the ground.
Zelensky assures Europe that he will help them out this winter with electricity if they just keep sending guns and money, and Putin says that he just made the Ukraine's power grid a military target.
I don't think that power grids should be targets, but one has to understand what the other side might be thinking, if you want to understand a war. Just pointing out that Zelensky's stupid gesture was a colossal mistake does not mean that I would rather be ruled by Putin. I really would not, but we are slouching in that direction under Biden, who is copying Putin's rule by secret police, while many commenters here cheer him on.
Buwaya was right, we need a royal family, and hereditary power, just not the trailer trash (apologies to trailer parks everywhere) that make up the Biden clan.

I have a few decent sunset photos from Wednesday evening on Twitter if anyone needs a lake/sky/clouds fix. ;)

Sundance shines some light
will it shine long enough to lead way out?
Anyone else ruminate a little too much on 9/11? I mean it's morbid to talk about out loud, but I think about it too much.
It could have been any of us.

A very long rainy day. I'm glad I wasn't doing IronMan today. Kudos to the winners for beating the elements.
