Great to see it. After all 70+ million Americans voted for TRump, and if a couple states had honest elections, he'd still be in office.

Among the elites. The lawyers, journalists, MSM, Billionaires, Banksters, Professors etc. Trump has maybe 10 percent support. Among the rest of the Country its almost 55-45. Its unheard of.

Trump laying the foundation, in case another Jan6 happens. Democrats won't be able to legitimately say we have to impeach him again for inciting a new round of violence.

Not that it will stop democrats. Nothing stops democrats. But Trump will be able to say, look I offered to help prevent another Jan6.

The Biden administration misjudged the amount of support they would have for the raid at Mar a Lago. Voters are pissed. I do not believe independents who are on the fence will be swayed to the Democrat's side due to this stunt. Did they really think this would cause Trump's supporters to abandon him? Really?

WSJ is reporting that "the magistrate judge on duty in Palm Beach County was unavailable" on Friday afternoon thus resulting in the anti-Trump judge being presented with the search warrant. How convenient. Especially since they didn't execute the warrant until three days later. Who believes this wasn't coordinated?

You know, one of the terms I love is when somebody (I have no idea who it was) referred to Althouse's commentators as "hillbillies."

I wear it as a badge of honor.

And it occurred to me that the rich people of Mar-A-Lago are probably thinking that their little rich hamlet is being overrun by a basket of deplorables.

What Hillary discovered, to her horror, is that the upper class voters are way outnumbered by the lower class voters.

The other thing I noticed -- which is awesome -- is that in North Carolina, the Republican candidate for the Senate has Tim Scott speaking on television campaign ads for him.

About time!

What would be truly amazing -- and really helpful to our republic -- is if a sizable number of deplorable black people voted along with Kanye West and 50 Cent for Trump. If we could get 20% or 30%, I think the dam might burst. That would be very, very helpful.

It took me years to switch to the Republican party. I get it! There's a narrative in the media, and you have to be cynical of the media. But as more and more cynical people see through the lies -- the elitists in the Democrat party are in serious trouble.

We had a Trump car rally come through our town just prior to election in 2020. One and a half hours of cars, trucks, flags. It was spurred by a Facebook post. No organization, no command center … pure grassroots response. At the time I thought it meant Trump was going to win. He officially didn’t but that rally was impressive and troubled my liberal neighbors. It went right through our town one street off mine. And of course ours was just one of many nationwide, spontaneous Trump rallies by car, by truck, by boat.

I foresee this happening again. The proles are vast, they’re angry, and they will not remain silent. Rallies in every twin, burg, and hamlet is an ideal way to make a statement our leaders are too weak to make.

There are a lot of legal issues I don't have a good grip on here.

Is a failure to abide by the requirements of the Presidential Records Act a criminal offense?
Are there explicit standard procedures that must be followed in order to declassify documents?
How would a prosecutor prove that Trump did not declassify the documents?
In the Hillary case, the failure to prosecute was justified on the basis (partly on the basis?) that it was impossible to prove "intent". Does the issue of intent arise here?
Would prosecution of Trump on these occur in Florida, or DC?

Or is the Merrick Garland hope here that he can find a DC jury that would happily find Trump guilty of anything?

oh gosh

I just called the whole state of Massachusetts "stupid" over three decades.

That's millions of people I've never met. Insulted them. Really I should have said "uninformed" because the media has hidden the truth from them.

I know this.

The internet is so funny. It enables us to have conversations with people around the world, and be exposed to all kinds of interesting and provocative thinkers.

I don't get into much political conversations with my real life friends. And in my family we try to avoid politics because we have two Democrats and two Republicans, and political conversations can get really mean, really quick.

In real life, I would imagine most people here are nice and interesting. I know I'm more polite and kinder in life than on the Althouse blog. Sometimes I let myself rant here just to let it out. Apologies if I offended anyone. I know we have at least one retired abortion doctor on this blog and he's always been sweet to me. God bless everyone. I mean it. Going to take a little break.

Asked and Answered:

Is a failure to abide by the requirements of the Presidential Records Act a criminal offense?

No. There are zero penalties in the law. It is not uncommon at all for Presidents to take documents with them when they leave the White House, which Trump makes clear that previous Presidents have done, including his predecessor, Barack Obama, who is in possession of approximately 33 million documents which will likely end up in his Presidential Library. Trump, of course, will never get a library because they hate him.

Are there explicit standard procedures that must be followed in order to declassify documents?

Some. But the President is the ultimate authority on what is or is not classified, according to the Supreme Court, and he can declassify in whatever manner he chooses. So, ipso facto, none of the documents in his possession are classified.

How would a prosecutor prove that Trump did not declassify the documents?

They can't. But that's not the point. The point is to arrest him on any crime whether they can prove it or not to attempt to stop him from running in 2024.

In the Hillary case, the failure to prosecute was justified on the basis (partly on the basis?) that it was impossible to prove "intent". Does the issue of intent arise here?

Yes. There was plenty of proof of Hillary's intent. But because we had a corrupt FBI head (James Comey), he chose not to persue her, even though that is not a decision for the FBI. She can still be prosecuted the moment an honest Attorney General is appointed. She is still in possession of top secret materials. Intentionally. Trump, on the other hand, has no intent to possess something he's not allowed to, and that's demonstrated by how he's been working with the federal government to give them anything they want.

Would prosecution of Trump on these occur in Florida, or DC?

DC. Because that's where the corrupt juries are located. You know, juries full of Hillary donors.

Michael K said...

Word is...

“President Barack Hussein Obama kept 33 million pages of documents, much of them classified,” Mr. Trump said in a statement. “How many of them pertained to nuclear? Word is, lots!”

But the National Archives and Records Administration, or NARA, which preserves and maintains records after a president leaves office, confirmed on Friday afternoon that Mr. Obama had turned over his documents — classified and unclassified — as required under the Presidential Records Act of 1978.

The National Archives “assumed exclusive legal and physical custody of Obama presidential records when President Barack Obama left office in 2017, in accordance with the Presidential Records Act,” the statement said. “NARA moved approximately 30 million pages of unclassified records to a NARA facility in the Chicago area, where they are maintained exclusively by NARA. Additionally, NARA maintains the classified Obama presidential records in a NARA facility in the Washington, D.C., area.”

“As required by the P.R.A.,” the statement added, referring to the Presidential Records Act, “former President Obama has no control over where and how NARA stores the presidential records of his administration.”

A spokesman for Mr. Trump did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

What Biden has done by sending the FBI to raid Trump's home (no, I don't for a minute believe that Garland did this without Biden's approval -- as the saying goes, I was born at night, but not last night) is a high-risk venture. No former President has ever been subjected to anything like this by a successor President - until now. The mainstream news has been carrying water for Biden by speculating that Trump was exposing nuclear secrets to Russian or other foreign espionage. But what if they can't come up with any substantial evidence that Trump created such a risk to national security? Normal people already think the Jan. 6 hearings are a bunch of hooey, but they mostly ignore them. But when you raid the former President's home, don't we Americans think you better have a forking good reason?

Uh, I was a notorious nevertrumper in 2016. He freaked me the fuck out. That was the most stressful primary campaign in my whole life. I was a Rubio man.

One time in a law firm break room -- I would talk about politics at work, I was so worked up in 2016 -- I told this other attorney that I was voting for Rubio. And she told me that Rubio was gay, she heard a rumor. And I said, "Am I supposed to not vote for him because he's gay?" That mortified the shit out of her.

(He's not gay, he's married, and I think the Cruz campaign was spreading rumors -- Trump actually warned Rubio about a dirty campaign against him)

Anyway, I was a Rubio man. And when he was out, I was a Cruz man. I didn't really like Cruz. But I was like, "Come on, Ted Cruz." And then he was out.

And then we were down to Trump and that moderate fucker from Indiana, I forget who he was, really annoying guy. I was trying to rally around him. And then he was out, days later. (I was convinced Trump had simply paid him to drop out).

And then Trump was the nominee. And I was like, holy shit.

And I was a little nervous because I had signed the Never Trump Pledge. And it was circulating around on the internet. I was like, shit, I might get audited or something.

And I had to vote for the Libertarian pothead. All he talked about was marijuana, his solution for everything. Dude.

And then Trump was president and everything was fine! Hell yes I changed my mind.
