"A federal judge in Florida on Thursday ordered that a redacted version of the affidavit used to obtain a warrant for former President Donald J. Trump’s Florida residence be unsealed by noon on Friday..."

"The decision by Judge Bruce E. Reinhart came just hours after the Justice Department submitted its proposal for extensive redactions to the document.... He appeared to accept the requested cuts.... [T]he order said that he... found them to be 'narrowly tailored to serve the government’s legitimate interest in the integrity of the ongoing investigation.'"

Can you have a "legitimate interest" in something that does not exist?

This Florida raid is one of the biggest diversions of attention in history. Trump is out of office. What is the current guy doing? Isn’t that important? The FBI has whistleblowers, the affidavit will be redacted so far that leakers will be able to tell their stories at will, and the press wants its stomach scratched instead of pursuing the facts.

We are sliding towards inflationary disaster and WWIII, and attention is locked on Trump an his doc boxes.

Sad.

Banana Republic.

Then we have “theft by finding” turned into a Federal crime by Biden’s goon squad, err, I mean the FBI. Turns out that if you find a diary with evidence that louche Joe Biden is a pedophile like his own son says, you better not take it across state lines or you are going to jail.

Mike Sylwester said...

What is being investigated that continues to be very secret?

Does the FBI still think that Trump is colluding with Russian Intelligence?

Is the FBI investigating whether Trump is plotting to send those secret documents to Putin so that Putin would buy Facebook ads in order to help Trump win the USA's 2024 Presidential election?

If that is the situation, then that part of the affidavit indeed should be redacted -- so that Trump will not realize that the FBI is on to his dastardly collusion plot.

Carol said...

If this memo is anything like the Mueller Memo, it must contain bad news for the Trump haters.

No wonder they drag their feet lol.

"conspiracy to transport stolen property across state lines", is what the people who found Biden's daughter's diary pled guilty to. Mind you, not theft, not sale of stolen property, not transporting stolen property across state lines. "Conspiracy". Of course, they'd have been willing to plead to treason, murder and organized mopery if the government's scumbag prosecutors had wanted them to. The law is what they say it is, and there's no point in arguing about it. You'll just get a longer sentence.

Went on Pacer (Public Access to Court Online Records) for the new federal Trump case against the United States over that search warrant. Besides his two out-of-state attorneys flunking their initial pro hac vice applications, his local counsel just flunked her change-of-address filing. (To a physical address in a residential apartment tower and an email address @outlook.com. No law firm affiliation. As of her initial appearance, she has been listed on Pacer as being at a law firm.) Pacer allows a search of all cases in the federal district in which an attorney has appeared. For Trump's local counsel, admitted to the Florida bar 8 years ago, this is her first appearance in a case in that district court.

As expected, the liberal democrat, Obama supporting Magistrate Judge who signed the illegal search warrant will allow the FBI/DoJ to hide everything they want to hide:

I find that the Government has met its burden of showing a compelling reason/good cause to seal portions of the Affidavit because disclosure would reveal (1) the identities of witnesses, law enforcement agents, and uncharged parties, (2) the investigation’s strategy, direction, scope, sources, and methods, and (3) grand jury information protected by Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 6(e)….

BTW, in case you forgot, DOJ/FBI official lied under oath, and falsfied documents in order to get FISA survaillence of Trump in 2016-2017 and carried on an "Investigation" they knew from the start was a lie.

But we can trust them this time. Right? Cause Joe Biden is an honorable man. Or at least that's what Mitt Romeny and Mitch McConnell say.

Carol said...

"Carol, what could the justification for that redaction possibly have been other than partisan animus towards Trump?"

For the Mueller memo? I think Mueller was embarrassed and afraid of blowback because he just couldn't get up a good case against Trump and knew how disappointed everyone would be. So he dragged it out as long as he could.

Then Barr had to ask, why all the redactions because it was so unnecessary but covered the embarrassing parts.

I don't know about the raid memo but it makes me suspicious the way they CYA. Garland probably realizing like Mueller, that there's no there there.

Yeah, right. The magistrate didn't push back on anything? The search warrant was supposed to be narrowly tailored, too, and the FBI/DOJ has been leaking almost nonstop. The magistrate should have whacked them over the leaks and told them they get only half of what they proposed.

Trump was a pretty good President -- better than any President in my policial lifetime (I cast my first vote in 1964) except Reagan. But with respect to the 2020 election, Trump screwed the pooch. It was obvious in advance that in key urban areas in "swing" States special "adjustments" to voting procedures due to COVID could be abused to "enlarge" the Biden vote. So far as I can tell, Trump didn't do anything prior to the election to stop or limit such abuses. His hysterical POST-ELECTION reaction was "too much too late".

In 2024, after 4 years of the Biden Presidency and at least 2 years of one-party rule, we'll need a President who knows how to run a big government, how to find and hire (and not immediately fire) good staff. We won't need an angry, bitter man (who has, by the way, every right to be angry and bitter) whose first priority is to vindicate himself and thrash his enemies. No, the candidate I refer to is not named "Bush". DeSantis can do in 2025-33 what the US needs. We REALLY NEED it!

And then there was the rape lawsuit by an underaged girl against Trump in August 2016 that supposedly happened at the Epstein mansion in the City. There was even a witness. But that lawsuit was quietly and conveniently withdrawn just ahead of the 2016 election. Talk about coincidence!

Michael K, not leftist mob scaring off lawyers (you don't know lawyers!), but rather Trump won't listen to (or pay) good lawyers. CNN reporting that 45 was relying on legal interpretations from non-lawyer Tom Fitton to hold on to government documents in face of escalating pressure for their return. While he now claims all they had to do was ask! Friday deadline filings by DOJ and his lawyers should be interesting.

It is impossible to miss how our Hopeless gadfly leaps in to whiteknight for his fellow leftist Heywood Rice after Rice, in 2022, asserted Trump had been a "useful idiot" for russia....without providing a single example to support the accusation.

Because there are no examples that exist to support that laughably false accusation.

Fellow lefty gadfly, seeing this, felt compelled to jump in as well.....and also providing no examples to support that accusation.

Because, again, there are none.

Game. Set. Match.

As always. But only always.

The Hopeless Gadfly: "And then there was the rape lawsuit by an underaged girl against Trump in August 2016 that supposedly happened at the Epstein mansion in the City. There was even a witness."

LOL

Then it would have been filmed by Epstein.

And the images would have been recovered by the FBI.

And then those images would have been used by the DOJ to indict Trump and have him removed from office.

But none of that happened...because that rape never happened.

All the Epstein activities involved your beloved democraticals and their allies.

Which is why the whole thing has been covered up...by you democraticals.

4) A "thank you" is not required.

Wow. When you think that Gadfly couldn't be anymore pathetic.

The lawsuit was withdrawn because it was just as pathetic and obvious false as the Trump raped a woman in first class on a plane.

Then there was the Trump raped a woman in a public dressing room hoax.

Russian collusion. Etc etc etc.
