The jury deliberated for less than three hours. The guilty verdict came after weeks of heated speeches by Mr. Bannon outside the federal courthouse in Washington, a lengthy jury selection process and a speedy trial that a judge had vowed to keep from becoming “a political circus.”...
Although Mr. Bannon was found guilty of what amounted to a low-level process crime, his conviction was the first of a close aide to Mr. Trump to result from one of the chief investigations into the Capitol attack....
ADDED: Bannon spoke to the press after the verdict:

No, it resulted from Bannon not appearing before Congress, and does not cast anything that happened on Jan 6th in any different light.

It will almost certainly get reversed on appeal should Bannon appeal. The selective prosecution under this law renders it an unconstitutional violation of due process. It seems Bannon really was guilty though. He was subpoenaed and he refused to testify. From a factual point it really does seem he is guilty. And while I agree that the likely reason Sussmann was acquitted was something close to Jury Nullification from a Democratic jury that isn't a good comparison. If you are looking for double standards it would be the fact that when Eric Holder was held in contempt of Congress and it was referred to the Justice Department for prosecution no proceeding occurred. Eric Holder also plainly refused to cooperate, and from factual standpoint appeared to be unambiguously guilty as should-have-been charged.

The Constitutional Republic that our WWII Grandparents fought to preserve is on its deathbed. ======= can somebody show me the logic reasoning for this claim >>> our WWII Grandparents fought to preserve The Constitutional Republic
So what exactly is the “case or controversy” involved here, to even be heard in a Federal court, when ab initio, Congress has no constitutional right to investigate non legislative matters in the first place?
It would be different if the DOJ was investigating, but they aren’t. So can an unconstitutional process really achieve conviction in a Federal Court? Really!?
There was no possibility that a DC jury would find him innocent, especially as the judge denied all his defense.
"I didn't feel like doing it" is not a valid defense. Either is claiming "executive privilege" since he was not a member of the administration during the time in question.
. I'm trying to figure out Bannon's game here. He's a solid strategist, so knew he'd be charged and convicted of Contempt. He went thru it with some thought out how he will benwfit.
Ann's right, it's a low-level process crime. I suspect Banning has an idea how he will spin this into political gold.
Garland is setting some very dangerous precedent. It's been 50 years since a person has been charged with ignoring a congressional subpoena. prosecuted, 2023, a flurry of subpoenas will target advisors to High Ranking Dem congress critters. And more than one Biden Advisor.
We still don't know why Pelosi refused to secure the Capitol. An investigation, should keep Garland busy.
This misdemeanor conviction of a former Trump advisor who was not a Trump advisor at the time of the events in question, over a procedural disagreement regarding a congrassional inquisition of dubious Constitutional authority, will of course be cited by all of the usual legal scholars here and in our ever-scrupulous MSM as proof of the proposition that Trump is Hitler.
"What's hard to believe is that the scripted, ABC produced J6 Committee would have let Steve Bannon testify openly in primetime. This is a set up. All theatre."
That's not how it works. The subpoenaed witness is cross examined for days in Adam Schiff's dungeon, and threatened with prosecution if he or she reveals anything whatsoever about the process, the questions, the substance or the testimony itself.
Then the Committee selects which particular tidbits it wishes to take out of context to present to support the show.
That is how it works.
Jim Jordan didn't agree with those rules back in the Adam Schiff Ukraine fiasco. That is why Nancy Pelosi wouldn't let Jim Jordan be on the "bipartisan" Committee.
This, like the OJ jury verdict, is not a decision that will enhance the respect of many Americans for our judicial system. If the Dems want to move forward with their goals of criminalizing Trump and his supporters, they need a broader swath of support than DC residents.....So many institutions have been discredited: the press, the FBI, the Pulitzer committee, academia, and now our judicial system. Thank God, we still have Kamala, poised and ready to take over at a moment's notice.

"jurisdiction" can be a topic covered under "controversy".
Your purported conundrum would mean that no one could contest any aspect of the Committee hearings, including their not having power to investigate non-legislative matters.
Howard keeps using the term "aid and comfort", which applies only to the crime of Treason.
Even he, the procrustean stretcher and torturer of definitions and meaning, will have trouble convincing anyone that the J6 people were committing "treason".
TODAY HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN ISSUED THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT.
On August 24th, 1814 units of the British Army , in conjunction with the Royal Marines, came ashore in the American State of Maryland, and proceeded to capture the American Capital of Washington D.C. Once in possession of the city, as a legitimate reprisal under the laws of war, Our forces proceeded to set afire every public building in the city, including both the White House and the Congressional Chambers; sparing only the Patent Office, in the name of scientific advancement.
I would like to take this opportunity to assure the citizens of the United States that, in light of the deep and permanent ties that have since arisen between our two nations, it would be quite impossible for Our Armed Forces to again burn all of the governmental offices in Washington D.C. and certainly not while they are occupied.

Bannon has a big mouth and bad lawyers. His defense was he felt he was somehow exempt from a subpoena? His stupid arrogance can be on display in jail, I’m sure the inmates will be impressed by his bravado. Maybe they’ll let him wear two jumpsuits.
It is possible to imagine that some people would wish that they had Bannon’s accomplishments. Not just because Bannon is an expert at manipulating susceptible minds. But Bannon has actually done a ton, so it makes sense that less successful people would want to be him.
Inga (9:04): He was in fact legally exempt from the subpoena because the 'bipartisan' committee is blatantly unconstitutional, since all the members were appointed by the Democrats. People who pretend this is not a problem will understand it perfectly well if the Republicans control Congress next year and set up a 'bipartisan' committee to investigate Biden, rejecting all Democratic nominees and putting Joe Manchin on themselves. They can say "Manchin's a Democrat, so it's bipartisan" all they want, but the Democrats would quite rightly object to a committee calling itself 'bipartisan' when everyone on it was appointed by one party and is strongly anti-Biden. Then again, I half-way hope they do something like that: sauce for the goose, and all that.
He could not have acted more as his own worst enemy. It is not that hard to say no comment ... but no, he has to 'speak his truth' like a college freshman lesbian 'telling off the patriarchy'.
Given where the democraticals/lefties/nevertrump (but I repeat myself) have taken us, I am surprised the democraticals haven't yet arrested Lee Zeldin for "illegally stealing innocent bystander's "property" (knife)".
Great news! I hope Bannon receives the harshest sentence available under the law. He did everything he could to make a mockery of the justice system, and has no one to blame but himself.

The court clearly did not agree, a reality that sharply highlights what a bad idea it is to personally decide one is in fact "legally exempt from the subpoena". Pretty stupid, Steve!

Curious as to what Althouse thought/reported regarding no prosecution of Eric Holder for "contempt of Congress" I checked her blog from week the prior to CNN reporting of it thru the ensuing weeks blog posts. Zilch, zero, nada, nothing!
Why the exclamation point? This was a totally foregone conclusion. Brannon did not even attempt a defense because he was forbidden to raise the main reason for his failure to comply - sea-a ration of powers and executive privilege. I view the developments as a positive because now the Supreme Court may well need to rule on one or more of the following:
1. What qualifies under executive privilege? 2. Can someone with a reasonable claim to executive privilege be tried for contempt of Congress without a court order to comply? 3. Does executive privilege apply to past presidents as well as sitting presidents? 4. What constitutes a jury of your peers? At what point is a jury pool so tainted that there must be a change of venue?
I believe that the Democrats ran this case knowing that they will lose on appeal and that executive privilege will be strengthened in time to protect the corrupt Biden regime when he is voted out of office in 2024. But in the meantime they get to rough up some Trump supporters and try to brand them as criminals. They tried to do this before on Brannon in the political prosecution of the Fund the Wall charity to which Brannon was not an actor concerning the issues in the case, but Trump thwarted them with a reprieve.
Democrats are increasingly Marxist in their use of the law. Newest example is the attack on a sitting Congressman while campaign for governors of New York. That is a federal crime but Garland’s partisan DOJ is nowhere to be found. Garland needs to be impeached when Republicans regain the House.
Dear Citter. The guy's name is Bannon. We thank you.
Bannon knows the score and is ready for some legal rope-a-dope. If (as I suspect) the tide turns he looks like a hero and martyr, and he doesn't lose any points with most people for being in contempt of congress anyway.
So, you can illegally redirect a million or more from your campaign, sell pardons, lie to the FBI, sic the government on your political opponents, lie on warrant applications to a federal judge, even ignore Congressional subpoenas... if you're a Democrat. I get it... two systems of justice.
These idiots think Jan 6 was a coup attempt, yet they are bound and determined to provoke a real revolution. They are sowing the wind.

A preview of the coming Trump conviction by a DC jury of his peons for giving aid and comfort in addition to instigating and supporting secessionist invasion of the US Capitol.
Howard, a lot of people across the country are watching all this, including the hundreds of political prisoners still held after 18 months. Only massive vote fraud will prevent a near extinction event for Democrats this November. We are waiting for our turn.
everyone who voted for Trump should be held contemptuous of USA present government -
The Constitutional Republic that our WWII Grandparents fought to preserve is on its deathbed.

can somebody show me the logic reasoning for this claim >>> our WWII Grandparents fought to preserve The Constitutional Republic
No cross examination allowed at this one-sided trial.
jim5301 stated: "Pro Tip - when you get a subpoena to appear before Congress, don't totally blow it off. "
Previously subpoenaed AG Eric Holder, who defied congress as well, was unavailable for comment.
Really!?
A shoe that will fit the other foot very nicely in 2023.
Who first? Ms. Nancy for snakeshit-level graft? Or Chucky Schumer for inciting mob violence against Bret Kavanaugh?
There was no possibility that a DC jury would find him innocent, especially as the judge denied all his defense.
"I didn't feel like doing it" is not a valid defense. Either is claiming "executive privilege" since he was not a member of the administration during the time in question.
Howard is neck deep in horse manure, with a shovel. Sure that a pony HAS to be there.
Pro Tip - when you get a subpoena to appear before Congress, don't totally blow it off.
Unless you're Eric Holder.
One set of rules for leftists. Another set for the right.
Just how long do you think we're going to sit around putting up with this shit?
Free advice Steve – when you show up in October to be sentenced, put on a tie. Also a clean shirt.
I mean, duh

This misdemeanor conviction of a former Trump advisor who was not a Trump advisor at the time of the events in question, over a procedural disagreement regarding a congrassional inquisition of dubious Constitutional authority, will of course be cited by all of the usual legal scholars here and in our ever-scrupulous MSM as proof of the proposition that Trump is Hitler.
Can I expect amnesty international to be coming to his aid?
I mean being a political prisoner and all….
"This is where we are in America 2022. The Constitutional Republic that our WWII Grandparents fought to preserve is on its deathbed. Accept it. Drink more beer. Pray for your kids and grandkids."
I've come to the same conclusion. I don't think there's anyone who can turn the condition of our Republic around. It's very sad, and I never expected to arrive at this point in my life. I don't believe in this country anymore.
The question I face: stay in this country, as it declines, and my beliefs become prosecutable offenses? Or find somewhere else to live out the remainder of my life?
United Fruit Company had a far greater dedication to and interest in truth and justice being served than the J6 Committee and their DOJ minions.
The Ds have sown the wind, and they will reap the shitstorm. The Rs are little better--worse on some things--so count me in the "Nuke DC from orbit" column. Neutron bombs so nothing important to history is destroyed. We still have neutron bombs, right?
Justice in D.C.: Kangaroos all the way.
Moderation is slowly driving me away.
Praise by faint damnation.
It is safe to say we have political prisoners here in the USA.
This government is a fucking joke.
Stalin would be in awe.
Saw Bannon’s lawyer on TV. He said he has a “bulletproof appeal.” Sounds good and I hope he is right, but I have never seen a lawyer guaranty a win.

Ironic that jim5301 has yet to address the Eric Holder question, even when prompted numerous times.

BUCKINGHAM PALACE.
OFFICIAL.
So please stop asking.
Thank you.
H.M. Elizabeth II

Seriously- Its not over.
Folks who comment on this blog, mostly crybabies and self pitying pussies. I have always wondered how Althouse’s line of comment and musing attracted this bunch. Playing with a theory that having somehow got it going she feeds this bunch what ittakes to keep it going, as sort of a zoo she can study.
“Steve Bannon Guilty of Contempt of Congress “
I am Bannon

There 1s not much I can recommend about getting old but not having to see what happens to this country is one thing. I remember WWII. Never have I been so pessimistic.

You have any evidence to back up this assertion by any chance?
Hillary Clinton.
Sussman.
Eric Holder.
Hunter Biden.
Joe Biden.
Bannon has a big mouth and bad lawyers. His defense was he felt he was somehow exempt from a subpoena? His stupid arrogance can be on display in jail, I’m sure the inmates will be impressed by his bravado. Maybe they’ll let him wear two jumpsuits.
“I am Bannon”
This is an interesting comment.
It is possible to imagine that some people would wish that they had Bannon’s accomplishments. Not just because Bannon is an expert at manipulating susceptible minds. But Bannon has actually done a ton, so it makes sense that less successful people would want to be him.
Cool.
There are not enough middle fingers for Pelosi and Liz Cheney.
If Bannon can go to jail for being uncooperative, so can a whole lot of the Russia hoax conspirators.

It isn't ironic. It is tragic.
The leftists know how shitty they are. They know they are fascsist douchenozzles.
They just don't care.
They are just terrible people and they will slink away like the cowards they are soon.
Inga (9:04):
He was in fact legally exempt from the subpoena because the 'bipartisan' committee is blatantly unconstitutional, since all the members were appointed by the Democrats.
Don't forget Sandy Berger. A whopping 100 hours of community service!
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
He could not have acted more as his own worst enemy. It is not that hard to say no comment ... but no, he has to 'speak his truth' like a college freshman lesbian 'telling off the patriarchy'.
What a dipshit.
And the beat goes on ladedadedah
Ima gonna get more popcorn!
Given where the democraticals/lefties/nevertrump (but I repeat myself) have taken us, I am surprised the democraticals haven't yet arrested Lee Zeldin for "illegally stealing innocent bystander's "property" (knife)".
The day is still young of course.

We also still don't know why you folks think it was her sole responsibility to do so. It was a shared role between her and Mitch, but you guys always drop the Mitch part. Wonder why.
Curious as to what Althouse thought/reported regarding no prosecution of Eric Holder for "contempt of Congress" I checked her blog from week the prior to CNN reporting of it thru the ensuing weeks blog posts. Zilch, zero, nada, nothing!
Here's a vote for putting Pelosi and McConman both in front of a panel to investigate what they knew and when they knew it about J6.
And then investigate how two such selfless and patriotic individuals have grown rich in imperial DC.
The lesson, kids, is: Never go against the Hive.
