Wow. Now I know what it is like to be judged by a chickadee.

Chickadee and dog under the table were my favorites.
(with a strong dislike for the brewery guy)

Gordon Lightfoot is his real name. All the music comes from his guitar, as opposed to the blue accordian guy.

"The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" plays on a loop at the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point, Michigan. They have a number of artifacts from the ship there. I visited there last summer.

Lord do I hate the song "Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald." I mean detest it with absolute vitriol.

The dog wins

5. Pretty shitty. Insult to dogs.

I think Mandy Patinkin should sing in a key that’s comfortable for him. That was hard to watch.

Tough call between 1 and 4, but all go with Mandy.

Gordon, like Sir Paul, Ian Anderson and many other aging stars has lost his voice. It was hard to sit through his show without continual wincing. As opposed to James Taylor who has kept his wonderful voice ss he's aged.

I agree with the chickadee: unsalted peanuts aren’t worth the effort. But, I’m bad about feeding my granddog from the table (she’s a big fan of asparagus) so it’s the dog cartoon for me.

It's like the fantastic and rarely heard intro to They Can't Take that Away From Me:

Our romance won't end on a sorrowful note/
Though by tomorrow you're gone/
The song has ended/
But as the writer wrote/
The melody lingers on/
they may take you from me/
I'll miss your fond caress/
But though they take you from me/
I'll still possess...

Saw Patinkin in 'Evita' in New York along with Patti LuPone. The first Broadway show I'd ever seen...talk about being spoiled.

Both sing like angels and both have a reputation as being 'difficult.'

Patinkin in particular was a supposed raging asshole during many of his TV roles.

Oh well...

Me too. Chickadee because the music was from Band of Brothers. The solemn music, originally written to illicit the emotions of of war is both appropriate and funny.

Dog under the table is just real and funny.

Enjoyed the bit about breweries. Yes, not comfortable seats, yes, loud because of how their buildings are built, yes, too loud.

When I went through my divorce, I created a list of break-up songs. I would listen to them as a catharsis. The saddest one of them all was Lightfoot's "If You Could Read My Mind."

I don’t think that song sounds like he thinks it does…

With respect to Patinkin's talent, that's not a song he should be singing, any more than Judy Garland should sing September Song. No middle aged man should sing that song. That song is for wistful girls who can shrug off invidious comparisons with Judy Garland.

3, 1. Could not listen to GL.

I love Edmond Fitzgerald’s voice!

No video of the Gordon Lightfoot crashing into the Cat Stevens?

"Enough with the breweries"

And when we go to bars, I want a bartender serving me, not a "mixologist."

"No middle aged man should sing that song."

I really liked it as a middle-aged man song.

It's a song about dreams. Anyone can have dreams and sing of dreams from their point of view.

I also love Willie Nelson singing "Rainbow Connection."

I love Dolly Parton singing Stairway to Heaven.

That was an unusual experience. The first one was a 10. The 2nd one was a 10. This never happens. Then a feeling of suspense arose in me. What if she has pulled off the unlikely feat of all of them being a 10? The chickadee...another 10. The suspense became worse.

The blue accordion I could tell would have been a 10 for some people. Not for me, although it was charming. Dog under table = 10.

Then...what are the odds that some song by some old guy would be a 10? Low. But it was the song that must reverently be played several times a day on that day in November. So that got a 10 also.

Very very close to being a double hat-trick. Extremely close to a quadruple salchow with just a tiny bobble, perceptible only to the East German judge, on the landing.

@Leslie

Thanks!

I must say that for me, each was just over the line for what gets on my list, so there was more of an evenness than usual. Each *could* have been rejected and none gave me the clear "yes" feeling that I've gotten in the past.

Ha. I kind of liked the brewery one, even though part of me thinks "Well, just don't go."

That said, I am getting a bit tired of 'craft' beer. . . .dump a sh*t-ton of hops and orange peels in and call it a 'craft' beer, never mind that it makes your butt pucker when you drink it.

That said, I still like having the variety over the old time One Lager To Rule Them All kinda thang.

Susan in Seattle said...

The rejecting chickadee was my favorite; I liked the others except for the craft beer clip.

Re: Mandy Patimken singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow, when will they ever be able to get an AI to sin like that?

This sounds like how I pick ties when shopping. A tie truly has to be a 'yes' or it's a 'no'.

Dog under the table is a clear winner. Also, there's a pretty good documentary on Gordon Lightfoot that is fairly recent.

The chickadee, the dog under the table, the accordian, Mandy Patikin.  Gordon would have made the liked list if it had been the full song.
