"More than 1 million voters across 43 states have switched to the Republican Party over the last year..."

"...  according to voter registration data analyzed by The Associated Press. The previously unreported number reflects a phenomenon that is playing out in virtually every region of the country — Democratic and Republican states along with cities and small towns — in the period since President Joe Biden replaced former President Donald Trump. But nowhere is the shift more pronounced — and dangerous for Democrats — than in the suburbs, where well-educated swing voters who turned against Trump’s Republican Party in recent years appear to be swinging back."

Do you blame them?? Progressives have a mental disease. They are liars. They are violent. They are ignorant. They are RACISTS. I am an Independent, and have been forever, but I WILL Never vote for THIS Progressive Democrat party. EVER. And I am NOT fond of most Republicans either. Pitting America against ANYBODY who is white and calling them privileged is wrong. Where I grew up, there was hardly ANY privilege, no matter WHAT color you are. All you do when you spew that nonsense is turn off half of America. Opening the borders is NOT helping either, when you see how THIS administration is treating illegals better than they are treating American citizens who went to the Capitol to protest, got ushered into the Capitol by the Capitol police, and are behind bars for trespassing. The border trespassers are being bussed and flown around the country in the dead of the night ON OUR DIME. The keg is about to burst.

Probably People of Brown, Black, Orange, and especially Yellow who have been subject to disparate affirmative discrimination under Diversity, Inequity, and Exclusion (DIE) doctrine. Our republican form of government avoids the pitfalls of the democratic/dictatorial duality through normalization of the middle class, aiding the lower class, and holding the upper class in equal regard.

Those swing voters decide elections. If you want your candidate to win, you might want to think about being nicer to them.

Eighteen months of Biden’s failures and deliberate destruction will do that.

Sorry to take the wind out Republican sails, but how many of the party changers are doing so as a ruse to them vote in the GOP primary, after which they plan to quietly switch back?

"Well-educated", you say? Well, there's your problem right there.

"There was not a single “aha moment” that convinced her to switch, but by 2020, she said the Democratic Party had “left me behind.”

Some of it might be the result of mail-in primary ballots. My normal procedure is to show up to the polls, declare a party to get a primary ballot, and then fill out a card to return to "unaffiliated" before I leave. With mail in balloting during the pandemic, I would now have to make a trip to townhall to do it, and it was only open a few hours a week during the shutdowns. Just not worth the effort since I will probably want the same ballot in the next primary. But I didn't really join the party in any meaningful way. I just wanted to support a friend running for office.

People may or may not see rising and falling stock index measures, or high school graduation rates, or Medicaid enrollments, or immigration cases, or import tariff rates, or the percentage of BIPOC admitted to STEM majors...

But they see gasoline prices. Even when they don't need gasoline that day they see many signs advertising gas prices, every day. Many people will (despite the advice of professional and expert economists) drive out of their way to find a filling station offering a few cents lower prices or that are "behind" what's perceived to be a generally rising price trend.

And the "I Did That!" stickers matter. And such stickers are entirely fair, pointing to pipeline cancellations, and emphasis on social, environmental and climate concerns predicted for decades ahead compared to seeming disregard for family budgets of the present moment.

Democrats institutionally and Biden specifically have come down on the side of higher prices for gas, higher prices for new cars, and greater reliance on imported oil.

Voters noticed.

Not to worry dems/nevertrumpers (but I repeat myself), you guys got the entirety of ex-Weekly Standard losers, The Lincoln Project All-Stars, 7/8ths of the current National Review lineup (paid directly by Google and lefty billionaires), the Cheney and low energy Bush clans as well as that dude that pretended to be a senior govt official when he wrote "Anonymous".

All in all a quite respectable "haul" for Team Far Left/Open Borders/Partial-Birth Abortion.

The net is less impressive than the gross:

In all, more than 1 million people became Republicans compared to about 630,000 who became Democrats.

Implies a net gain to Republicans of about ~400,000. I suppose that's also a net loss of ~400,000 to Democrats so the net-net is 800,000 (rather than 2 million) -- significant! But it's still a little misleading for the writer to lead with the 1 million.

I've seen this story floating around for the last few days. However, I wondered if some of these registration changers were doing it to do mischief within the Republican primaries - especially in states like Georgia and Pennsylvania - with critical Senate races.

I wonder if the shift back is concentrated among college educated suburban white women who want it all?

They want to feel woke. They want to feel independent. They want to feel tolerant. They want to kiss ass to teachers and the teacher's union for the benefit of their own children. They LOVED the pandemic when it first started...then got sick of the kids being at home. They were the original Karens.

But now it costs a lot more to power up the second air conditioner in the 3500 sq. ft. McMansion. City violence is getting dangerously close to home (DuPage County, IL - Ozaukee County, WI). Their white sons don't stand a chance in college. Their athletic daughters might have to compete against people with penises (there goes the scholarship). $5.00 gas is killing the disposable income and meeting the other girls for mani-pedis is less frequent. Some of the drag queens hosting story hour are hotter than them. They are seeing vaccine injuries among their kids. Restaurants now suck.

They're not big fans of the blow job, and now their liberal school boards and teachers are putting "how to give a blow job" on the 6th grade summer reading list (Barrington, IL) to prepare their sons for high school.

They have to swing back quickly before they look in the mirror and realize the craziness and rapid decline in the last two years was in large part...because of them. Trust me on this. Nobody knows more about college educated suburban women being crazy...than suburban men.

They are only switching parties so they can vote in the primary to get the most un-electable or a fake Republican on the ballet for November. In November they will switch back.

Then again... there's still a lot of time before the midterms. I don't expect the democrats to cross their arms and say to themselves, better luck next time.

No mention of independents. In Nebraska, that's where most of those leaving the Democratic Party go.

RNB said...

I switched from 'Republican' to 'Independent' in Georgia, 2020, but it wasn't because I want to 'mess' with the Democrats' primaries. I just finally balked at being counted in the same party as politicians who promised one thing on the campaign trail and them wimped out in Washington.

I keep seeing reports that Democrats are switching their registration to vote in closed primaries. I don't know if it's true. In any case 1 million out of about 150 million voters isn't a lot by percentage.

Michelle said...

Can we know what portion of these new registrations are for the purpose of supporting an extreme Republican candidate in a primary, in the hopes of aiding a Democratic candidate in the general election? I find that approach immoral regardless of who is doing it, but I’ve heard the strategy has gained popularity among some on the left.

Which, of course, was exactly how we got Trump in 2016, yes? The MSM was treating Trump with great seriousness as a viable candidate almost up to the convention. At that point they suddenly realized that the man actually was a formidable candidate and started furiously backpedaling.

People ought to be very, very careful about such "strategic" voting. It can backfire spectacularly; we've already seen it.

Bunkypotatohead said...

The Dems can easily exhume enough voters to counteract that.
