"Even somebody who is sure I am deserving of all this hate and vitriol, even if you think that I’m lying, you still couldn’t look me in the eye and tell me that you think on social media there’s been a fair representation."

Said Amber Heard, quoted in "Amber Heard says social media frenzy surrounding trial was not 'fair'" (WaPo).

Life isn’t fair. Lovers are unfair to each other when they break up. Social media is not fair. That some are born beautiful is not fair. That actors are paid millions for their alleged work is not fair. Lying is not fair. Inflicting your immature expectations on the rest of us is not fair.

So what? You have worn out your welcome, woman. Face reality for a change.

Dear Amber:

Writing that false op-Ed at the urging of the ACLU was incredibly stupid. Your stupidity was compounded by the fact that your stupid lawyers apparently didn’t require the ACLU to pay any judgment against you.

You have now been exposed to the world as a bat shit crazy liar who is both reckless and stupid.

I have no idea if what happened on social media is a fair representation, but I do know that's not what social media is for. I feel bad for Amber Heard, she's clearly a disturbed woman who, despite being famous and (until recently) rich, seems very unhappy and doomed to keep being unhappy. I also feel bad for Johnny Depp, who is seems a disturbed man doomed to be unhappy.

Complaining about social media isn't going to make any of this better.

Huh. Trials are supposed to be fair. Representation on social media, no, you were attacked way more than your opponent. No one is going to care about that.

SHE put herself in that position. Nobody did that but her.

Like Tim, I have no idea if what happened on social media is fair, but if it had gone the other way on social media, would she be defending Johnny Depp? Would she be calling for fairness to him? I doubt it.

Is this a case of Civility Bullshit?

I couldn't tell you anything, Amber, because I haven't paid the slightest bit of attention. Why do celibates think they are deserving of our attention?

Kate said...

She's got to pay Johnny somehow, and no one will hire her again as an actress. At least she knows how to hire a business manager.

What did she think would happen? I guess she never expected Depp to sue, because one would think she would have weighed each of their credibility as a witness. Depp is clearly the better actor, therefore she was always going to get buried. You've got to prepare properly for the fight. I mean, Angelina Jolie has never been dumb enough to accuse Brad Pitt of abuse in print. Insinuations are fine; accusations would likely destroy her career too. Is that fair? Probably not, but you're dealing with actors. Nothing is fair.

You say that you didn't get fair representation from social media on the Internets, Amber?

Well then, let's contact the Grand Marshall of Social Media Fairness and bring this case to the Court of Internet Adjudication!

What? Those institutions don't exist? It's just a big free-for-all out there? We can't sue everyone who says things we don't like? Maybe then we should be a bit more careful about airing our dirty laundry out in the news media op-ed world, which gives us leverage because of our celebrity status and victimhood viewpoints?

(Can you imagine how many cases would be brought before this court per minute if it actually existed?)

What would Rhett Butler say to this?

Kate writes, "She's got to pay Johnny somehow, and no one will hire her again as an actress."

Unlikely.

What's likely is Amber Heard starring in a thoroughly warped biopic about an honest woman brought to court by a sadistic, degenerated movie star and then disgraced by the professional character assassins hired to eviscerate her reputation in the social media.

If you think this prediction is just Quaestor talking through his hat, allow me to remind you of a Meryl Streep film about Mary Mapes called Truth.

First: Behave like a total bitch
second: Play the victim and cry "why are you being mean to me?"

I guess there's some white knight or gullible idiot somewhere that buys it.

Mark said...

The fact that something is pretty one-sided is not necessarily an indication that it is not fair.

Quaestor said...

If Twitter's minders had as their goal a forum of just and fair comments and opinions, there'd be neither Democrats nor progressives nor Amber Heards on Twitter.

My opinion of televised court proceedings is generally negative. A real courtroom ought to be a neutral battleground, not a Jerry Springer-style freak show... This is just too depressing to contemplate. The less Heard, the better.

Depp doesn't need the money. And probably wants the money a lot less than regaining his reputation.

It is quite possible that there could be a post-trial settlement for less money to preclude an appeal and on the condition that she make a public apology.

Hey Amber, when you dishonestly labeled Johny Depp an abuser in your WaPo article, was that "fair"?

No?

You dont' get to legitimately whine about being treated "unfairly", when you are the one who started the ball rolling.

Now do social media's treatment of Trump.

Skeptical Voter said...

You want representation? Hire better lawyers. That'll do it for the trial.

But there is no real remedy for social media's verdict. Right or wrong, those bozos out there will come to their own conclusions. And opinions are like noses in that everybody has one.

The narcissist is still screaming for attention, I see. You've been had, Amber, stop your fronting. Who is it that paved the way to getting the ACLU to pinch hit for you by writing your essay, and who is it that paved the way to its publishing? Where is all the money coming from, that keeps propping you up? You shouldn't complain about the challenge and scrutiny, it goes without saying that it comes with the territory. It's you that keeps demanding the spotlight.

TheOne Who Is Not Obeyed said...

Her comments bring to mind my least-favorite corporate idiom: "I don't disagree with you."

But I also couldn't care less. Social media isn't about fairness. Conservatives already know this. And now so does Amber Heard.

Now do Trump. And unlike Amber, social media companies encouraged anti-Trump sentiment and censored pro-Trump sentiment, and Trump himself.

She originally attempted to use the mainstream media and social media to destroy her ex-husband. She succeeded, for six years, making him a pariah in his field of endeavor and much of his social class. Now, when it finally rebounds on her, after her lies are exposed, often by her own words, she complains.

Live by the sword, die by the sword. Though it is a bit ironic that, to a large part, it was her own sword.
