Explains Ira Glass, talking to Yang Yi, a podcast producer in Shanghai, in the newest episode of "This American Life."
Yang Yi goes to the quarantine center, even though his self-test is reading negative. He says: "And at that point, my thought is we want a healthy social identity back, not a healthy body." The quarantine center is in a high school building:
Some people are sent to stay on the basketball court on the third floor. He and Johnny were pointed to the first floor, where they learned they'd be living in the swimming pool. There's no water in it. Instead, there were rows of cots, men in the deep end, women and children in the shallow end. Elderly people with mobility problems were on the edges of the pool. Because it was just a high school pool, there's only a tiny bathroom with one toilet in it for the men and another bathroom with one toilet for the women.From Yang Yi's perspective, it wasn't so bad: "I have to say, it feel like an adventure. It's just like an adventure. We got food. We could talk to the strangers. And that is the only chance during those weeks we could go outside apartment."
Yeah, I hadn't seen so many strangers in weeks! And what impressed me the most was a young couple... [T]hey seem to be sunbathing. It's like, they're laying on the beach... [T]hey moved their cot to the side of the pool. And for them, so they were like the beach chairs, you know. And each laying there by the pool with a book in their hands.... Yeah, I feel that here in quarantine center, normal life is lived.

There’s a bank in China that offered high interest rates. It attracted lots of deposits online. A businessman deposited one million. He then couldn’t get access to his money. He had a negative covid test. He tried to board a train to go to the bank. The province rigged the computer and it showed a positive covid test so he couldn’t travel.
Hey, that's funny -- "a healthy social identity" is what the leftists here want for everyone too. You just have to think and say and do what they want. That's not so bad, is it? Now everybody chant in unison: "Yeah, I feel that here in quarantine center, normal life is lived."
How's the air circulation? Not great, I bet. Any virus present will collect in the deep end, where they put the men.
That's one way to deal with China's 'too many men' problem.
Sad, but likely what the so-called elites have in mind for America.

Am I the only one who sees a similarity between this story and the one about the school children forced to talk about and play games about their "feelings"? There's not enough difference to me between forcing kids to vote on the "collective mood" - of course it was "upbeat" - and people feeling forced to say "this is a good place, this quarantine center". I know the consequences
of refusing to participate in the latter are much, much worse, but really, it's the same mindset that creates both situations. We know what's best for you, we will make you like it.
How many Chinese will be mugged for a green-light phone, just so the mugger can avoid arrest or buy his family some food.
The quarantine center had food - unlike apartment blocks with welded-shut doors and armed guards keeping everyone inside. But the center couldn't fix a false positive light on a phone?
The saddest part of that particular story was that they reported China's "COVID deaths" number as actual fact. The idea that there were only 20,000 versus the US's report 1 million + is laughable and should be treated accordingly.

Gee, I don't know, how could anyone fear the people who created Covid and then released it on the world?
Transmission occurred primarily in medical, senior, and long-term care facilities, and a peculiar increase off all-causes deaths among the "vaccinated" (how you get infected matters), widespread use of portable viral collectors and petri dishes, and collateral damage from social contagion.
Most people just want to be told what to do. It may sound counter intuitive to us, here in the United States. But this is true even here. That's why it keeps popping up despite efforts to prevent it.
In YouTube conversations, cancelled Biologist Brett Weinstein and Dr. Robert Malone speculate the growing power over US citizens is accumulating in so called Private/Public partnerships. These things are pretty much unaccountable.
You know what the democrats could do, in order to get the populous to accept the invasive QR codes, they could offer republicans to use them as a voting method. talk about an enticing offer. Or, the even more intrusive one the IRS uses to make sure it's you when you log on to pay taxes, face recognition technology. Once accepted for one thing, it will be easier to sell their use for something else.
