Says the new policy adopted by Fina, "the global regulator for swimming, diving and water polo," quoted in "Swimming chiefs ban trans athletes from women’s elite events/‘Open’ category to be created for swimmers whose gender identity is different than their birth sex" (London Times).
Sharron Davies, the British swimmer who won silver at the 1980 Olympics, welcomed the ruling. The 59-year-old says she has “paid a price” for backing inclusion for all in sport while arguing against transgender participation in women’s elite swimming... “I am over the moon. I couldn’t stop crying. Here’s a decision that finally backs the rights of women to have their own category saved for female athletes. It’s been a long, hard road and anyone who spoke up for women, pointed to the obvious science and how it plays out in sports like swimming, has been bullied and harassed. I hope this gives other sports the courage to do the right thing and empower women to speak up without feeling they’re going to be shot down in flames.”

Do the right thing!
About GD time some rationality - and realism - took hold in women's sports. Now the powers that need to adapt the simple formula that XX chromosome people compete in women's sports, XY compete in men's and the confused can establish their own sporting leagues.
The real story here is that the NCAA was dead wrong. The NCAA is run by American universities; supposed places of learning and objectivity.
Common sense from one of these "international" groups?
Hard to believe but pleased to read about it.
It will be interesting to see, now that there is a trail blazer, if other, less courageous organizations will follow.
How's go? Even a Blind Squirrel is right twice a day?

I would give NCAA benefit of doubt : could be they were afrraid of being called 'Domestic Terrorists' / Trumpist etc
Now the "Open" competition will likely be overrun by guys who aren't really transgender at all, which will be fucking hilarious.

But, but, doesn't she know?!? "Trans-women are real women!!11!"
You're denying those "real women" their access to the "female category"!
IOW, damn good job, congratulations TERFs on winning one
Finally!
I applaud FINA for creating the “Open” category for the transgender swimmers. Makes logical sense. But so did schools in the US which created or floated creating unisex bathrooms that transgenders could use but which got shot down by the LGBTQ+ bullies along with state and federal bureaucrats and judges as not being “inclusive” and backed off. I hope FINA holds its ground and pushes back against the LGBTQ+ bullies now that they have announced their new rules.
The fact this ruling is worthy of celebration reveals just how fucked up things really are.
We have a long ways to go to return to normalcy. If ever.
When they can say what they actually mean ... which is that "MEN have been excluded from WOMEN'S sporting events," then we will have achieved a milestone. They still cannot say that. It's not allowed.
Baby steps.
And here I was looking forward to an all-"male" starting 5 on the nominally "female" UConn BB team...
Only response is for the Biden Admiration to call for Americans to boycott of the Olympics or any other competition governed by Fina until they repeal this discriminatory policy.
This is a great development for women athletes. But what is a woman? I like the "other" category, too, but there will be trouble as 76 pronouns get scrunched into "other". How respectful is that?
Good time to make this ruling. While I am being inundated by tranny month all over the airwaves.
That's the end of that.
So, going forward, we'll have divisions of competitive swimming for Men, Women and Castrated Freaks. Works for me.
But…but…I was just about ready to make my move and apply as a woman-like competitor! I paid for a very nice one-piece suit and shaved my legs!
Totally shattered by this arbitrary sexist ruling.
An island of reality in a sea of insanity.
Wow. Is this real? I've been so mindfucked by the Left, I can't believe commonsense is even possible anymore.
"‘Open’ category to be created for swimmers whose gender identity is different than their birth sex"
Too complicated. It should be women and open.
Watch as rules limiting women's sports to women, and creating a separate category for the transgenders, suddenly result in fewer men athletes saying they are transgender.
The real story here is that the NCAA was dead wrong.
The NCAA has had a real problem with abuse of women athletes.
Why stop now?
Wow! A Common Sense Official Decision? Did Hell just freeze over?
It seems to be worried about injuries to women when all it is is men are stronger, faster and smarter.
Is it too soon to hope that the worm has turned? Because it feels like it has.
Yancey: "Now the "Open" competition will likely be overrun by guys who aren't really transgender at all, which will be fucking hilarious."
But instead of winning as women, crushing actual females, "trans women" will now be winning as quasi-men, inferior to manly men. Even with all the prog propaganda, that will be embarrassing rather than fun. And how many XX "trans men" will want to participate?
How about just 'Open.'
Why carve out a special class for biological women just because they can't compete with biological men?
One team.
My hope is that future humans will wonder why the trans were ever allowed to race against actual women.
But wait a minute. Does this mean that the women who claim to be men have to swim with the men who claim to be women? They're gonna get their cute little butts waxed.
My hope is that future humans will wonder why a single "trans" was ever allowed to race against women.
A number of states have passed laws on this. Sanity may be returning. Matt Taibbi has a whole substack column on this.
How can somebody be female for some things and not for others? It's like being kind of pregnant. If society is going to say that people born male can become female and people female can become male, then that needs to be the rule across the board. This seems like a way to have it both ways (no pun intended). "As long as it doesn't affect me personally, then I am fine with cancelling anybody who is transphobic. However, since my daughter wants to swim at an Ivy League college, letting Lia Thomas compete against her is totally unfair."

No biological females in the finals, the cash dries up.
It was always going to come to this, women, and before them, girls, don't do the sport, no athletic biological female bodies in skintight "uniforms", low viewership, and very low cash coming in.

Diana Moon Glampers hardest hit.
"Here’s a decision that finally backs the rights of women to have their own category saved for female athletes."
I was told that a woman can do anything a man can do. If that's so, why would they need "their own category"?
A step in the right direction, but still baby steps. If you want to solve this problem, you've got to stop calling men who "identify as" (claim to be) women "transgender women". The phrase validates the claim of these men that they ARE women. Call them "transgender men". That's honest. They are men who "identify" (want to be treated) as women, a different gender. Go back over any news story or op-ed and change the terminology that way. "Lia Thomas is a transgender man who has been allowed to compete in women's swimming." Doesn't that clarify the issue?
You're welcome.
While I agree with this decision, what about women who are transitioning or have already transitioned into men? Will they still be allowed to compete against women despite being on testosterone? Or will being on testosterone automatically disqualify them from the women’s league and place them into the open league?
That's the end of that. - Readering
Nope. It's just the start, because the push back will be vile, vicious and unrelenting.
On anyone and/or everybody who follows the lead here.
Don't believe me? Watch.
About time the "institutional wisdom" woke up out of its stupor. Things can only go so far through the looking glass before some people start looking to guys like Tim McVeigh as inspirational figures in their struggle.
The Godfather suggests switching nomenclature from the current (Lia Thomas is a transgender woman) to a new form (Lia Thomas is a transgender man), and asks "doesn't that clarify the issue?"
No! It's hard enough breaking a lifetime habit of assuming "man" means a person with male genitalia and XY chromosomes, and having to translate everything written about men and women from new-speak into biological reality. Reversing the nomenclature won't help!
I would prefer that we refer to males as men, females as women, and everyone else as [sex]-impersonators. So, Lia Thomas is a female impersonator. "She" is not a female; she was born and remains male and lived as a man until recently, when she became a female impersonator. That doesn't make her a woman; she can never be that. But I'm OK referring to her as "she," because she's got an act she's putting on, and as long as I don't have to be in the U-Penn women's swimmer's locker room after a meet, it's convincing enough to warrant a "she" pronoun. But I wouldn't call her a female or a woman, because it's just an act. Let's not let reality be hijacked by impersonators.
Hormone and surgical fiddling doesn't change any of this. It just enhances the impersonation. It's like makeup for a drag queen, only more permanent.
Anyway, kudos to FINA. The reaction from the alphabet people is going to be epic.
Biological facts, logic, and reason, all used to provide irrefutable justification for a new Ruling. What a concept! And it only took them a little over a year to puzzle their way through the obvious, with constant, outraged prodding from.....Everybody Else. The Ruling Elites are Imbeciles. Tar and Feathers are be called for.

+1000
Then there's US women's gymnastics, which is running neck and neck with the NCAA in the "who can abuse females more"race. :-(
The prevailing apology is that the standard means to discern male and female sexes, masculine and feminine genders, are inadequate, and, following the precautionary principle, selectively, ethically, leads us to #NoJudgment #NoLabels, equitable and inclusive schemes. While this doesn't affect trans/homos and trans/bis, it fails in biological and social terms for trans/neo, trans/con, trans/prog, and what should be better characterized as trans/social males.
