At the Fallen Tree Café...

... you can write about anything you want.

It's amazing how often I encounter big trees that have fallen across a path where I frequently walk. I do avoid the woods when it's windy, but still....

In just 18 months this installed and corrupt regime has changed the definitions for "woman", "vaccine"and "racism" and now these lunatic lefties are attempting to redefine "recession" in order to hide the reality of their purposeful destruction of our country.

Last night power went off in about 23 places in the Milwaukee area. These were small outages caused by a tree falling on a power line and knocking out power to one or two streets. I think a line of powerful wind went through at 4:30 am, dropping these trees. At any rate, I woke up at 4:30 am to the sound of howling wind which lasted about 30 seconds and then was gone and so was the power. My morning coffee was delayed and I wondered what would happen in the afternoon, fan and AC-wise, since temps of 97 or higher were predicted. But WE Energies came out and cleared the tree by 11 am. I can't find a story about whatever happened. Apparently losing power isn't a story the Journal Sentinel wants to cover. So I'm preparing for the next outage by learning to make cold brew coffee. Somehow I feel sure there will be another one, and another - mostly caused by wind from the left getting into energy policy and knocking over sense.

Today I attended a FedSoc event. One of the speakers clerked for both Justices Scalia and Thomas. He said it would have been easy for anyone to smuggle out the draft opinion as the guards don’t inspect briefcases. Everyone prints out drafts. And on top of that, the draft was scanned. It could have been scanned on a phone.

The leaker will never be caught.

I never let a high wind keep me from walking in the woods. the chances of a tree limb hitting you or tree crashng down are fairly small. But I'm not talking about tornados!

Anyway, one of the great things about Althouse blog is that when someone Drezner comes up, I can hit on his name, and poof I'm back in 2006 or 2008, and I can click on a link and there he is calling Atlhouse "Batshit crazy" for getting a little heated with whatshername on BHTV. Or arrogantly dismissing Althouse concerns about Racism and Losertarianism. Good God, what a smug, boring, asshole he was.

The Freakout over the Althouse justified outrage, the "How dare she say that!" is funny and was one just one step before the current craze of censoring and deplatforming people for saying the wrong thing.

So Canada is banning plastic goods. Too much of the plastic that people use ends up in landfills.

No, it's not that people obnoxiously refuse to recycle. It's not people that throw the used plastics in the trash -- it's the recycle centers.

So yet another aspect of the green agenda is shown to be fraudulent. Recycle, they say, yet many places won't take or otherwise process glass or many paper products and now many plastics. The recycle centers send it to the dump or to the incinerators.

Regarding the leaker:

1) THe MSM and the Democrats don't want the leaker known or punished
2) The Left are willing to lie and know there's zero retribution in DC for a Leftist lying to cover his ass.
3) This is really a SCOTUS internal affair. It only affects the Judges and the way they work. Its nice they want to trust each other and be a "Team". but if they all hated each other, so what? They listen to arguments, they read briefs, and they vote. They don't have to send each other flowers and love notes, they don't even have to see each other.

Texas Uvalde School Shotting Update: "New footage shows Uvalde Police standing idly in the school hallway, fully equipped with armour gear, shield & weapons 19 minutes after the gunman entered the school & an hour before they finally entered the classrooms"

It's always worse than initial reports. link to new report via reddit

In my years of hiking through the woods I've seen large trees fall three different times. My goal is to not end up like Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

Watching The Accountant (2016) it’s leaving HBO at the end of this month. This movie is really good. I think I passed on it because it had bad Rotten Tomatoes Critics ratings. The Audience likes it at 76% 👍🏽however. I got to start taking chances on some of these movies.

Lots of news going around on the Uvalde shooting.

What strikes me in every story involving police is this; why are they all so fat?

This goes for the military too...the senior officers like Milley all need girdles and tailored uniforms to not look enormous.

Especially guys like the school police chief...the guy is 50-ish and has never seen a donut he didn't eat.

Did the police nationwide decide to drop all physical fitness standards and nobody noticed?

I could walk/run that guy into the ground and I'm much older. And it's not even my job to chase down people or wrestle with criminals.

Have some pride...

@Lem, if you can believe it, the performance of the Uvalde police is even worse than that. Had any of them actually tried to open the door they would have discovered that classroom door was unlocked because, in fact, it could not be locked from inside.

So add “stupid” to cowardice when describing the Uvalde police.

Some questions, too, for the Uvalde school board. The “self-locking” door that young Ramos used to enter the school — why didn’t it lock? More importantly, what good are school lockdown drills if the classroom doors cannot be locked from the inside? I understand that they had had over forty in the school year prior to Ramos’ rampage. Why didn’t someone notice that?

Oaks are famously known to drop branches when there is no wind.

My favorite walk in the woods story, axe in hand, I approached a large red oak and it fell over.

Indeed, while much has been made of the EU’s intention to wean itself off Russian gas, its strategy relies on diversifying, not replacing, gas sources. Therefore, an economical and widely available alternative to Russian gas is domestic fracking and yet few seem willing to recognize this.

In conclusion, the fear of fracking in Europe has contributed to the severity of the cost-of-living crisis, cemented energy dependence on Russia and other authoritarian states, and obscured the potential energy security benefits of domestic shale gas. As Europe finally awakens to the dangers of Russian energy dependence it should consider the full range of policy options available to tackle the current crisis.

Fracking should be seriously considered as a short-term stopgap that would help to diversify gas supply and manage the effects of the war in Ukraine and future supply and price pressures while allowing for investment in renewable, nuclear, and hydrogen power that will secure true energy security.

@Lem, Ben Affleck playing a high-functioning autistic person is a case of a role ideally suited to an actor’s skill set.

I didn’t see the “go fund me” coming. I’m a little sad by it.

I never even see rotten tomatoes until after I’ve seen the movies/shows and want to look up cast members. The amount of shows I’ve watched that have tons of rotten tomatoes- lol. I like them, though.
One of my favorites is the Sandra Bullick movie about Steve. All about Steve! I thought it was perfect- in an over the top, unrealistic way. It was fiction, for crying out loud. Very touching, in my eyes.

Isn’t that the exact picture of life. A chosen path w/a fallen tree all the way across it.

I would pronounce it as acrost.
As some pronounce asked as axed.
