About 20 million people watched last night's prime-time January 6th hearing.

That "pales next to presidential debates (63 million to 73 million) or this year’s State of the Union address (38 million)," but "it’s still much larger than the audience that would normally watch a daytime congressional hearing. And it’s in the ballpark of television events like a big 'Sunday Night Football' game or the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade."

That's how the NYT puts it.

I wonder how many of them already agreed with the Committee's findings and how many were the target audience of people who needed convincing.

"20 million"

Aka the number of people who actually voted for Biden.

I wonder how many were real people? And how many were computer "estimated"

I wonder if next year they will televise the January 6 Hearing Hearings?

WaPo says nearly 19 million then clarifies to 18.8 million. Viewer ratings for Democrats are as inflated as their vote totals. Fox News by itself had 3 million viewers not watching the hearing.

By comparison about 24 million watch ABC/CBS/NBC nightly news every night. 60 minutes gets about 8 million views. Almost all the viewers are over 55.

So who watched? The same semi-educated libtard boomers who think Joe Biden is doing a great job, and think the USA has never been better.

IOW, idiots who watch Network News.

can you imagine whose so braindead they'd sit down and watch that Crap? But then look at Network TV shows!

Remember all those dumb TV Sitcoms you grew up with? Not the 4-5 "good" ones. The other 25 ones. Now imagine them twice as stupid, and 5x more sleazy and you got The average network sitcom today.

It's all Fox News's fault. They didn't bring their captive audience. And those are the people who aren't on board.

I dropped sat TV back in February and never took to streaming. There was nothing on, mostly NCIS reruns and dreary Fox News. I do now watch the Gutfeld! clips on their youtube channel. Same reason I watched the Daily Show back when Jon Stewart was on it. It was the 11 pm thing. Now I make my own fun.

remember 2017?
When the media ALL had a conniption about President Trump "inflating" Inauguration numbers??
here, this will help Nielsen ratings showed that TV viewership of the inauguration in the US was 30.6 million, more than Obama's second inauguration in 2013 (20.6 million)

So, when (WHEN?) will the media come down on All the people pretending that 20,000,000 (or Nearly 19 million (or around 18 million (or, a few))) people watched the Jan6th show?
Never, i know, i know

I just heard there were a number of videos and tweets that were selectively edited.
Not surprised.

Hahahahaha!

That's barely above the Oscars ratings which are in a permanent septic tank.

Will there be audience polling after Weekend? or Is this grist for Sunday media talkfest?

A misleading stat. It was on every channel except Fox News. It was compelled viewing. No choice.

The thing is, those 20 million people would be watching the big game on one channel. How many channels were showing this hearing? There were at least nine.

And how many people would be watching those channels collectively on normal night?
Spoiler alert. The answer is more than 20 million.

The truth is that most voters don't pay much attention to either FOX News or the Brownstream News--if we compare numbers of voters in 2020 and the numbers who watch those offerings in primetime. The top four or five barely break 10mill per evening combined. (I assume those are largely the same habitual viewers.)

My theory is that most people have their core political identity established early--by their 20s very often--and actual events have only marginal effects on them: the energetic spinning of the primetime chatterers is intended to amuse and fortify the already convinced, not to persuade opponents.

when you look into it, its NOT 20 million. Its 18 or so million. They tack on 2 million for estimated "Other".

The breakdown is ABC/NBC/CBS = 11 million, CNN 3 million, MSNBC 4 million.

Anybody seeing it on CNN/MSNBC is a leftist goof. The ratings for the 18-49 are insanely small. Of the 3 networks only 2 million 18-49 watched. thats mean 9 million out of 11 million were OVER 50.

I can remember when Trump wanted to address the nation on CV-19 in prime time, and the networks refused. They should be sued by the RNC for giving free air time to the Democrats.

Earlier we saw ratings that were far less. About 3 million for each of the three networks. Must be a lot of late voting.

There's an actual, potentially murderous, insurrection being called for right now against the U.S. Supreme Court by the most putrid elements of the left, encouraged by Schumer, enabled by "Ruth Sent Us," and protected by Pelosi. So pardon me for not giving a tenth of a fuck about the hommage to Leni Riefenstahl now playing at the Capitol Cinemaplex.

I can’t believe Americans would want to watch any of this boring political shit.

The comparison must be made to the typical programming by those channels during those hours. Early indications are that viewership dropped by more than a third.

I was genuinely curious, so I watched the beginning of the first night's hearings. I could barely stomach it. The pretentiousness of the chairman was enough for me to give up. He begins these hearings by talking about himself, and then references slavery, lynchings, and the Klan? What does that have to do with anything? Complete drivel, that I knew everyone would praise online. What exactly is this hearing for? I pulled the plug early.

Later I saw the clip of Ivanka. I get that the point was to show what Trump's closest confidantes thought about the election being stolen. But it struck me as mean-spirited, a chance to use the man's daughter against him, and mock her in the process. Where's the attorney to shoot, "Objection! Relevance?"

Alan Dershowitz:
"It was unethical. Why was it unethical? Take for example President Trump’s speech on January 6th. I opposed that speech. I don’t think it was done well. I don’t think he should have done it. But he said at the end of the speech he wanted people to show their voices patriotically and peacefully. They doctored the tape! They edited those words out. If a prosecutor ever did that they’d be disbarred! You can’t present part of the tape and deliberately omit the rest of the tape in order to mislead the audience. Especially when the other side has no opportunity to cross-examine. And has no opportunity to put on its own evidence. There is a special obligation not to cheat! Not to defraud the viewers. That’s exactly what they did…"

And how many are just people in old folk homes that left the TV on...

Or for that matter Dr's offices and gyms that keep TVs on 24 hrs a day...

And how many of them are just liberals desperate for some evidence...

It is just a Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. And with prime time.. lost of people just don't have anything else to turn on to watch.

Maybe a large, inflatable Jerry Nadler would have perked up the ratings.
