Elon Musk said he will reverse Twitter's permanent ban on Donald Trump and that he opposes permanent bans generally....

... because they "just fundamentally undermine trust in Twitter." He said: "If there are tweets that are wrong and bad, those should be either deleted or made invisible, and a suspension — a temporary suspension — is appropriate, but not a permanent ban.'"

Intelligencer reports.

Musk was speaking at a conference in London.

Trump, it should be remembered, has said he won't return to Twitter, but I suspect he'll change his mind

Here's the video. Note that Musk says the decision to ban Trump was "morally bad and foolish in the extreme":

ADDED: Here's a much better video clip:

Elon,

Since you purchased twitter, my 3 year old has started giving his mother and I the Roman salute when we step into the room. When he was playing with his mashed peas yesterday he made a likeness that looked disturbingly like Adolf Hitler. He also refuses to use or watch the educational apps that I provided him on his learning tablet, saying that they’re ‘beneath him’ and likely the work of a ‘jewish cabal’.

This is your fault Elon. In a few short weeks your purchase of twitter has turned my toddler into a nazi.

He may have contractual obligations to the firm he's with now. I heard (just today) that he got a lot of equity in the firm.

As to Musk's statement; of course he'd drop Trumps's ban because he's right; it was "morally bad and foolish in the extreme". It was 100% political censorship. And I'd expect Musk to drop the ban whether or not Trump intends to return. I don't see the two as linked.

IDK, seems kind of tacky to me.

Q: what happens if Twitter reverses ban on Trump now before Elon takes over?

re: freedom of speech on Twitter - ‘Experts say women and people of color could suffer the most.’

That’s a quote from the Washington Post. Is part of a recent theme from the extreme left: free speech is dangerous and it harms certain demographics.

Will Twitter allow posting of a link to a TruthSocial post?

Hmmm... So Musk is of the opinion that once his deal goes through, he will be in a position to unilaterally reinstate Trump?

I think I might find it more reassuring if Twitter had a Truth and Reconciliation process. Revisit allthe bannings. Establish criteria and make them public.

Musk plans on taking the company private, replacing the Board, firing the entire marketing dept, firing the majority of the lunatic lefty "Safety" censors and focusing efforts on key tech/UX improvements.

Taking the company private is critical.

I am a journalist with the New York Times. I am preparing a story on this phenomenon. Can we get in touch directly to discuss your experience further?

Thanks. I hope to hear from you.

Last week I got a notification on my phone that pedjt is back on Twitter. I followed the link and followed "Donald J Trump" @realDonaldTrump

It has his picture. It does not have a blue checkmark verification. It does not have many followers about 150 and only a few tweets.

I am pretty sure it is phoney.

But I am surprised that Twitter would allow even a phoney donald trump account.

I don't give a sh*t whether Trump has a Twitter account or not. I do care whether folks can hear/read opinions they aren't familiar with. If some faceless grundoon or (worse) robot decides that there's some message I shouldn't be allowed to hear, THAT I worry about.

@Lem:

Jordan Peterson said that "The Habitable Order is Generated by Spoken Truth".

That's a Petersonian phrase if I ever heard one. Like other self-help gurus, Peterson has a great facility for pseudo-profound gibberish. From 12 Rules for Life: "To stand up straight with your shoulders back is to accept the terrible responsibility of life, with eyes wide open. It means deciding to voluntarily transform the chaos of potential into the realities of habitable order. It means adopting the burden of self-conscious vulnerability, and accepting the end of the unconscious paradise of childhood, where finitude and mortality are only dimly comprehended. It means willingly undertaking the sacrifices necessary to generate a productive and meaningful reality (it means acting to please God, in the ancient language)."

Peterson uses the phrase "it means" four times, and I still don't know what it means. Let's trying replacing the pronoun "it" with its antecedent. In that case, we get, "To stand up straight with your shoulders back means adopting the burden of self-conscious vulnerability, and accepting the end of the unconscious paradise of childhood, where finitude and mortality are only dimly comprehended."

Ah, yes, now I understand. "To stand up straight with your shoulders back means acting to please God, in the ancient language." Of course!

But, you can't judge what the "truth" is, when censorship is a norm.
