Clearly these leaks about killing the generals and sinking the Moskva are an attempt to bait Putin into a retaliation against NATO territory. They want WW3.

Until quite recently, Amber Heard was totally unknown to me. Apparently she is supposed to be a hottie, but looking (and listening) to her in court I wonder why anyone would think so, or find anything about her of interest. Depp has been in a few movies I've seen, at least, and is highly regarded by those who follow such things.

The couple seem well matched in shallow self-absorption, Hollywood style, and I'm sure their attorneys are making hay in their pursuit of Truth, Justice, and The American Way.

Amber Heard is a terrible witness.

The Dems are trying to pass a bill codifying abortion on demand into law. And the wokies want the a set of "findings" included in the law. These findings show intent. And these findings show that the bill is racist in intent. At present blacks are 12% of the US population but 34% of all abortions. As a result blacks are declining as a group within the US population both relatively and absolutely - as a percentage of the population and in terms of absolute numbers. But also as a result no one can say that blacks are not getting abortion equity - they have a fair share, more than a fair share, of US abortions in relation to population numbers In fact the number of blacks getting abortions could decline by a lot and the group would still have an equitable share of abortions and it would be good for the group as well since it would halt the group's decline. But what are the Dems doing - trying to pass a bill whose explicit reason and intent is to continue the number of abortions in the black community - that is to say, to continue the decline of that community.

" legislative findings, [are] a nonbinding part of a bill that gives important context and intentions regarding the proposed legislation. The findings that were cut from the new WHPA bill described in detail ... how bans like those now playing out at the state level disproportionately affect the most vulnerable [i.e., they lower the disproportionate numbers of abortions among the poorer women of the black community] They’re the kind of thing that help establish the intent of a piece of legislation [which intent is to keep up the disproportionate number of abortions in the black community]"and can be pointed to later [when the black community recognizes the eugenic meaning of the law whose intent we can prove was to maintain a disproportion in births among different US population groups.]

The city of Göttingen in Lower Saxony, central Germany, will be the first in the country to allow the practice of female topless swimming in its indoor and outdoor pools, thanks to a measure aimed at increasing gender equality.

The left says men can't have any opinion about abortion because they can't give birth.

By that reasoning, gays and lesbians should STFU also.

How tolerant...

Another disturbing intelligence leak re Ukraine. US identified the Moskva and provided other intel that helped Ukraine sink her.

Reuters, May 5. By MARI SAITO in BUCHA, Ukraine
A REUTERS SPECIAL REPORT
Love letter, ID card point to Russian units that terrorised Bucha

Eyewitness testimony, discarded documents and social media posts point to the Russian soldiers and chain of command in the bloody occupation of the Ukrainian town of Bucha

'...From his house on the corner of Yablunska Street, Volodymyr Abramov said he watched as Chechen troops drove their column into town on March 4. Abramov, 72, who moved to Bucha after helping to clean up the radiological debris from the Chornobyl nuclear disaster, lived next door to his daughter Iryna, 48, and her husband Oleh, 40, a welder.

The next day, March 5, Chechen soldiers arrived at their door, Abramov said. They wore sandy-coloured uniforms and expensive nubuck boots, and carried neater, better kit than regular Russian forces, Abramov said, matching the description of Chechen fighters given by residents north of the town.

The Chechens ordered Abramov, Iryna and Oleh to step outside with their hands raised. One of the soldiers repeatedly asked Iryna where the “Nazis” were hiding, she said, and set their house ablaze. Russian propaganda has described Ukraine’s rulers as Nazi sympathisers, a label Kyiv rejects.

While Iryna was being questioned, other soldiers in the unit ordered her husband to take off his shirt. They brought him, naked from the waist up, out of the property into the cold street outside. Abramov said he heard Oleh asking the soldiers not to harm him.

The soldiers forced Oleh to kneel, Abramov said. Then they shot him in the temple. Blood was still pulsing from the wound when Iryna reached her husband’s body. “Kill me too,” she shouted at the soldiers.

When the Russian forces retreated in late March, Oleh’s body was one of more than a dozen left behind on Yablunska Street. In April, Iryna and her father gave Oleh a funeral and finally buried him in a family plot in Bucha.

Kneeling by the freshly covered grave on a misty day in April, Iryna stroked a picture of her husband that rested against a blue and yellow wreath, the colours of the Ukrainian flag.

“He was such a nice man,” she said, recalling the big, comforting hugs Oleh always gave her.

Iryna said she hoped for justice for her murdered husband, but knew that may prove elusive. More disturbing still, she said, were Russia’s claims that the atrocities in Bucha were staged by the residents themselves.

“They came here and killed and tortured people, and they say we did it, that we did this to ourselves,” she said. “I just want to know why this happened, why this happened to my husband.”'

Pope Francis' recent take on murders like this:

“I feel that before going to Kyiv, I must go to Moscow,” he told Corriere Della Sera in an interview that ran Tuesday. But the meeting would not exactly be to condemn Putin, based on what he told the paper. He said that the real “scandal” of Putin’s war is “NATO barking at Russia’s door,” which he said caused the Kremlin to “react badly and unleash the conflict.”

USSC advocate and scotusblog founder Tom Goldstein has an interesting speculative piece there. He thinks there may be 3 leaders at the courthouse. First the leaker who supplied the info for the WSJ on the battle on the right between Alito and the Chief. The editorial aimed to buck up the hard liners.
Then the leaker who provided head counts to Politico in the wake of the editorial. Finally, the leaker of the draft itself. The first on the right, the third on the left. The second, less obvious. He also thinks the last leaker went to the co-author of the politico piece, who is not on the USSC beat. What other reason to earn a byline when the subject outside his area?

If true, the worst leak may have been the leak to the WSJ.

I don’t mind us sharing intelligence with Ukraine. I do mind that we are publicly admitting it. It’s like we are taunting them to nuke Warsaw.

It is possible to think that did we did act with stupidity in dangling NATO in front of Ukraine and also think that Russia should be condemned for invasion and detested for the brutality of the invasion. All of these things can be true at once. I can call a random person on the street a jerk. That would be unwise. He could hit me- a possible misdemeanor or minor fellow. A mistake. He could kill me- Murder - a larger mistake. None of those things justify the other.

I’ve said it before. We are being governed by a typical corporate HR department. Hilarity is ensuring.

Even in the unlikely event that Bucha wasn’t the Nazis punishing those who cooperated with the Russians for the short time they were there, combined with combat casualties, and that Russia went against its own interests to commit an atrocity which would turn the population against them for generations, it’s still not our war. Stop trying to drag us into it.

Boeing is moving its headquarters from Chicago to Arlington, VA. The better to get closer to the money spigot and to make it easier to smooze with the money givers in the Congress and the Pentagon. It's getting farther away from its former core competency, that of making commercial airplanes. Now its core competency is getting government contracts, and generating cost overruns and falling behind schedule and delivering a crap product. The 767-tanker and presidential airplane are prime examples of its new competency.

Interesting series Professor Ann. The second stands out to me because of the wave action and chop being tight and fairly consistent but the first and last images have cloud patterns, and I forget the meteorological term, trying to form in farmers almanac terms, a mackerel sky (Mackerel sky; not yet wet, not yet dry). What would be an interesting capture is if conditions worked out where you have the low, busy chop on the waves and a mackerel sky and a bit of sunflash separating the two. As always I appreciate your diligence in getting up and continuing the Sunrise series.
