I'm sure everyone remembers the plaster casts of the voids in the ash left by the bodies of the people killed and covered up by the eruption. The one that always stood out for me was that of a poor dog left behind to protect its master's property; its collar and chain clearly visible in the casting.
What a strange two millennia arc connecting these two guard dogs sharing the same place, but separated in time and form.
