NYT: "Le Pen won by a comfortable margin in the first round in places that have lost jobs to deindustrialization," where she denounced Macron's neoliberal "reforms."

They probably admired Marine's military service.
IOW, the people doing quite well under the current system, especially the old people, just want zero change. So what if things are going badly? Or the young and the workers are getting screwed to the wall.
Anyhoo, le Pen doesn't have a chance because the Leftists refuse to vote for her. They'll either stay home and vote for Macron who'll give them more Neo-liberal capitalism. It'll be hilarious when these dummies get the shaft as the newly elected Macron goes full globalist/open borders and introduces economic "austerity".
When you have NOTHING else....pull out the RACE CARD. Now that it is useless in America, they change the language. I am a proud RACIST, if I am against the Al Sharptons, murdering babies, letting kids be kids, ect..ect..ect.. Words don't hurt anymore...the destruction of America does.
I like the term "disobedient workers."
They're not treated as heroically as the union rabble-rousers of yesteryear.
She has 3 kids. Macron has 0.
She’s already won and he’s already lost.
Macron actually seems reasonable compared to Crook Potemkin Biden family Puppets/international grifters or the horrible Leftist dictator running Canada.
If LePen can never win, and she never does, why does she keep running? Is there no else?
Greenwald is right about a lot of things, and this is one of them.
Rosanne was cancelled for her retrograde sympathy for the working class.
As Greenwald has said, or I think it was him, in regards to the Canadian truckers. "People on the left love 'the working class,' they just hate actual working people." (paraphrase)
One of the most amazing accomplishments of Big Tech's control of media is to get the left to side with the billionaire class over the working class. Greenwald and a few others refuse to go along.
Somehow 'populism' is always tagged 'authoritarian populism' without a scrap of evidence, just like there seems to exist no "center right," only a 'right wing." Right now Justin Trudeau, who used 'emergency powers' to arrest peaceful demonstrators, freeze bank accounts and seize assets of anybody who contributed money to support the demonstrators, and has now imposed "journalist licensing," and whose political party has doled out millions of dollars to those media outlets that will receive these licenses, and has denied these licenses to opposition media (He's gone full Zelensky on his opposition) is authoritarian in a way that Trump never even hinted at wanting such powers.
Honestly Canada is lost, due to the weak protections of rights in their charter, and the same Davos termites are working on our rights here.
Glenn Greenwald is one of only a handful of commentators that I will pay for.
I wonder too if these millions of hard working immigrants that the Democrats are inviting in to suppress the wages of the America working class, especially of working class blacks, won't be far more amenable to the politics of populism offered by Donald Trump than the policies of dependency and low wages and high inflation offered by Joe Biden
I talked with working people who voted for Trump. They didn't necessarily expect anything great from him, but they understood that Hillary Clinton and those around her absolutely hate, detest, loathe working class people. People who have never accomplished anything or produced anything of value do tend to look down on those who do actual work.
"It's easier to go left on economics than right on culture" is a truism.
overwhelmingly rely on the affluent urban/suburban professional FEMALE class
fify!
it's WOMEN, that are responsible for the world's problems.. i TRY to ignore Rhhardin;
but the truth of the matter is: He's Right! Women shouldn't be allowed to vote
I don’t understand why people who recognize this phenomenon are tied to a party. Ruy Texiera come to mind. He recognizes this and is begging Dem leadership to back away from Woke ideology rather than assessing if his values are more aligned with the Republicans. The Republican populists are trying to kick the Establishment Republicans out. Political relationships should be aligned by interests, not political parties.
The KKK had a populist economic stance, not much different than the Democrats, the main difference being the race matter. While not an exact analogue Le Pen appeals to the same economic strata without the explicit race mongering. It's bizarre that both the Socialist and Communists in France are for poor people immigrating and from cultures that are not prone to assimilation, favoring the urban elites and shafting the native working class. Actually, not unlike the American Left.
Greenwald is correct. The Democratic Party under Clinton made a conscious choice to turn its back on people who worked in factories in the middle of the country, and to remove traditional barriers to trade that had helped to safe guard their hard fought rights, like the right to form a union, to have a minumum wage, to have safe working conditions, to not have to compete with child labor. These protections were replaced with freely available opioids, followed by expensive addiction clinics. Then, after having been thrown to wolves, those men and women voted for Trump, and the response of the people who had thrown them to wolves was to call them deplorable and racist.
Read Deaths of Despair by Anne Case and Angus Deaton, both of Princeton and one a Nobel Prize winner. (I know, thaose credentials do not make them right, but these two do have real heft.) The book documents the predictable aftermath of Clinton's actions, must notably in the dramatically increased mortality rates among white non-hispanic men starting in 2000 when the Clinton measures kicked in. The increased mortality was due to alcohol, opioids, and suicide.
"The liberal-left doesn't want to grapple with why is happening, so they just call disobedient workers racist."
Calling them racist without evidence. I think the heavy push on "equity" may be an attempt to generate pushback, and thus manufacture the appearance of racism.
The wailing and gnashing of teeth by the left will be amusing.
The reverse from the 18-24 to the 25-34 voting is dramatic, isn't it? And the pattern is fairly solid until...the ages at which people are no longer working. It's almost as if...nah, it couldn't be.
What's "That's Ray-Cissss!!!" in French?
Speaking truth through projection, alleging diversity is the last hope and bastion of the progressive liberal left.
C'est merde.
cubanbob writes, "It's bizarre that both the Socialist[s] and Communists in France are for poor people immigrating and from cultures that are not prone to assimilation, favoring the urban elites and shafting the native working class. Actually, not unlike the American Left."
It's perfectly logical if one assumes their goal is the disintegration of French society into easily dominated penny packets.
gilbar writes, "It's WOMEN, that are responsible for the world's problems."
No women, no people. No people, no problems.
Seems reasonable. It did to the dinosaurs until they saw that big rock coming.
But gilbar paints with too broad a brush. The problem isn't women, it's women who'd rather feed thirty-seven cats than three children.
We all need to read The Road to Wigan Pier. I am ordering it today.
George Orwell understood this phenomenon back in the 1930's.
As Greenwald has said, or I think it was him, in regards to the Canadian truckers. "People on the left love 'the working class,' they just hate actual working people." (paraphrase)
That was also true of Lenin. Coincidence ?
Glenn Greenwald appears to be retweeting Matt Goodwin, but instead of a retweet he posted a screenshot so Matt Goodwin wouldn’t get any Twitter traffic. Matt did the work.
Counting unhatched chickens again.
There's a natural tendency to throw out elites when they fail. If you're part of the elite yourself you don't want that, so you scream about how your opponents are threats to Democracy. But is Democracy really so feeble and indefensible that it can't survive the defeat of one's own party or candidate? If Democracy demands that you get your way all the time and justifies anything you do to come out on to, then how does Democracy differ from Autocracy? If true Democracy requires that opponents be stigmatized and ostracized is it really that desirable?
Phil Ochs said it back in 1966:
"In every political community there are varying shades of political opinion. One of the shadiest of these is the liberals. An outspoken group on many subjects. Ten degrees to the left of center in good times. Ten degrees to the right of center if it affects them personally. Here, then, is a lesson in safe logic."
And:
“Once i was young and impulsive
I wore every conceivable pin
Even went to the socialist meetings
Learned all the old union hymns
But i've grown older and wiser
And that's why i'm turning you in
So love me, love me, love me, i'm a liberal”
Yes, I’m liberal-left. I could explain myself but am not encouraged to do so, to paraphrase Althouse. Instead, I’ll sit back and read all the usual comments advocating kicking me out of the country. And listen to Love Me, I’m a Liberal a few more times.
Actually, I expect there is a good deal of racism involved. As well there should be. When a people who have spent hundreds of generations building a great nation are watching the destruction of that nation at the hands of lawless, gibbering savages, it is hardly surprising if they hate and despise those savages almost as much as they hate and despise the turncoat race-traitors who have imported them from their shithole failed nations, in order to further their political schemes.
"their chances for victory overwhelmingly rely on the affluent urban/suburban professional class"
Which in many places is just enough. Particularly if they can buy supplementary votes.
gilbar writes, "It's WOMEN, that are responsible for the world's problems."
No. Men and women are equal in rights and complementary in Nature/nature. Through a process of reconciliation, we form unions as couples and set priorities for ourselves, our Posterity, and our community.
how does Democracy differ from Autocracy?
The democratic/dictatorial duality. Principles matter.
I expect there is a good deal of racism involved
Diversity [dogma] (i.e. color judgment, class-based bigotry) is coincident with [catastrophic] [anthropogenic] immigration reform that exceeds the rate of assimilation, integration, and productivity. Imagine, too, that the Pro-Choice "ethical" religion was inculcated to progress this liberal regime in darkness.
That's how Biden won:
....and then Slow Joe immediately landed a sub-30 approval rating.
I've noticed that "Biden won", and "Biden is president" is a frequent talking point. The democrats want that repeated in the press.
Perhaps, the democrats don't believe Biden is president either.
That trend has been apparent in the US for at least the last 30 years, it has just become big enough to be easily visible. All those educated people who naturally vote for Democrats because "they care about working people" have taken the party away from the working people and pursue their own class interests. And they aren't even aware there is a difference.
" immigration reform that exceeds the rate of assimilation, integration, and productivity. "
Yeah, right. Go ask the Chikes about the optimal rate of immigration for assimilation, integration, and productivity.
Did I mention lawless, gibbering savages?
Yeah, I think I did.
