War in Ukraine: West’s Bucha massacre claims killed hopes of peace, says Putin

"Ceasefire negotiations in Ukraine were derailed by western “provocation” over “supposed massacres” by Russian forces in Bucha, President Putin told the UN secretary-general yesterday..."

Comment:

Evoking Lewis Carroll, Through the Looking Glass:

“When I use a word,’ Vladimir Putin said in rather a scornful tone, ‘it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.’

’The question is,’ said Alice, ‘whether you can make words mean so many different things.’

’The question is,’ said ‘Vladimir Putin "which is to be master — that’s all.”

Have you looked closely at Bucha? Or do you just believe everything you hear out of a war zone?

WTF² Paul Auster's addict son Daniel who got indicted last week was also peripherally involved in the case of Michael Alig's "club kid" murder of Andre "Angel" Melendez a quarter century ago and was sentenced for walking off with some of Melendez's money. Bruce Bawer, a fan of Paul Auster's writing, has a censorious, schoolmasterish, judgmental article about Auster's parenting. I wouldn't say what he says, because I don't want to be a hard pants, but clearly somebody had to say it. Daniel's mother, Paul's first wife, Lydia Davis, is another leading literary light, connected to the Transatlantic leftwing Cockburn dynasty through her own mother's previous marriage and Party membership. Bawer says that Auster should have been more involved in his family and less willing to issue frequent condemnatory quotes about Trump and America. It's hard to argue with that, though I can understand people not wanting to say it out loud just now.

Just thinking how interesting it is that DeSantis is being relentlessly attacked re Disney tax districts and parental rights, but no one is talking about banning abortion after 15 weeks signed 2 weeks ago.

Sprezzatura said...

It seems like comments are getting through w/o Althouse checking them first so she can decide if the comments will be allowed.

Is this a cognitive dissonance thing-y.

With all the fuss about free speech in the news, did she just now noticed that she runs her own anti-free-speech operation?

This blog is awesome.

Transgender spectrum, pedophilia, and, generally, social progress, is politically congruent ("="), and aligned corporate sponsors are valued sources of redistributive change, democratic gerrymandering, and steering advocacy.

First, they came for the babies, then they came for the white men.... men, then they came for the white women... People of Female sex... Persons of Feminine gender, trans/homosexual females included, are no longer a reliable source of leverage, so the wicked solution has become a commodity attraction.

While Althouse may scrutinize comments, some, select, Choice, it is clear that she does, with exceptions, encourage a comment spread with the probable intent of enriching the content while minimizing reverberations.

“it is clear that she does, with exceptions, encourage a comment spread with the probable intent of enriching the content while minimizing reverberations.”

Almost all of my comments for a year or so have not been allowed to be shown on this blog.

How can you justify the deletion of all of those comments w/o you having seen any of them?

I’m sure Putin apologists will tell you that what he does is is justified, just as you justify Althouse censorship. But those folks and you don’t know what has been censored. So why are so certain re your POV, w/o you seeing the censored stuff that has been hidden from you?

Not to mention that all the racists, anti-vaxers, DJT fans, Hunter Biden experts and so on that have been censored from Twitter are still getting their messages out, unlike me when Althouse censors me here.

Logic is tricky.

IIRC Althouse has in the past been fussy about the diddly dang gubment tryin’ to take these lightbulbs out of our cold dead hands, or something like that.

Where is our post about this injustice?

Or is she now ok w/ this librul/commie oppression? Cause her mind has been brainwashed by censored Twitter. Duh.

Evermerkin [sic] now OTC in Tennessee.

I guess you mean ivermectin, which was approved for human use by the FDA to treat infections caused by some parasitic worms and head lice and skin conditions like rosacea. Tennessee simply approved OTC sales without prescription.

But "for sale" means "pay a price". Coronavirus vaccines are free.

Perhaps at least one person who either reads or runs this List may be interested in the following:

Current Neuropharmacology (April 20, 2022, Online ahead of print).

Abstract:

Ultramicronized Palmitoylethanolamide and Luteolin Supplement Combined with Olfactory Training to Treat Post-COVID-19 Olfactory Impairment: A Multi-Center Double-Blinded Randomized Placebo-Controlled Clinical Trial

Results: A total of 185 patients, including intervention (130) and control (55) were enrolled. The intervention group showed significantly greater improvement in olfactory threshold, discrimination, and identification scores compared to controls (p=0.0001).

Overall, 92% of patients in the intervention group improved versus 42% of controls. Magnitude of recovery was significantly greater in the intervention group versus control (12.8 + 8.2 versus mean 3.2 + 3), with >10-fold higher prevalence of anosmia in control versus intervention groups at the 90-day endpoint

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35450527/

(Unfortunately, the full pdf of the study is behind a paywall.)

FWIW, at least one vendor on Amazon offers a combination of the two supplements:

Palmitoylethanolamide 630 mg + Luteolin Standardized 98%- Micronized PEA 99% Highly Purified and Bioavailable 120 Veggie Capsules

Visit the X Gold Health Store
4.3 out of 5 stars 96 ratings
Price: $28.71 ($0.24 / Count)

Disclaimer: YMMV

There's also this 2021 study without the Luteolin but which only mentions the olfactory nerve in passing:

Pharmaceuticals (Basel). 2021 Apr; 14(4): 336.

Ultramicronized Palmitoylethanolamide (um-PEA): A New Possible Adjuvant Treatment in COVID-19 patients

Conclusions

"um-PEA would seem to have numerous healthy effects on different organs and systems, thanks to its various mechanisms acting on inflammation, pain and improving a wide
variety of signs and symptoms of both chronic and acute pathological conditions, among
them COVID-19 [53].

In this perspective, as um-PEA is safe, endogenous, and nontoxic, its supplementation, aiming at the modulation of the immune system, could represent an addon therapy to traditional pharmacological drugs for COVID-19 patients [20,22]..."

My favorite trees to watch lately here in southwest Florida are the mahogany trees. They are semi-deciduous, meaning that they drop their leaves in the spring and then almost immediately put out new leaves over a few weeks, without a period of dormancy like most deciduous trees. We have several of them in the parking lot at work, and over the past few weeks, they have been going through that cycle, although not all at once. Some have all of their fresh green leaves, others are still in the bare branch phase. They have large seed pods that turn woody and then burst to disperse the seeds inside. They are really nice shade trees.

On the topic of censorship and moderation, there’s a good essay by Jim Rutt at the Quillette website, entitled “Musk and Moderation.” Obviously running a blog is not like running Twitter, but the article struck me as perceptive and pragmatic, and some of its suggestions might be adaptable to this context.

We, who live beside Lake Michigan, have a special micro climate. We're a week at least behind Madison in terms of flowers coming out. The magnolias are still not doing much. Still, we now have squills and trout lilies in abundance. Sheets of blue everywhere. Some kinds of daffodils. I planted the hyacinths and daffodils I bought for Easter and the squirrels have dug them up three times to investigate the bulbs but not eaten them. I'm thinking of slingshots.

Looks like someone “adjusted” those dials on Twitter that MSNBC was raving about, and suddenly lefty accounts show fewer followers and center right accounts are showing similar increases in followers. As NYT best-selling author Tyrus said, “now I can see the actual reach of my account” instead of the suppression of the following count. Does that mean Twitter had been “accidentally” adding 20,000 ghost followers to Bernie and Pocahontas? Cause it looks a lot like a clean up job because “Daddy’s coming home,” to quote Tyrus again. Yes it does look like that.

Waiting for some intrepid journalist to corner Fauci, and the doctor to shoot back, "Young man/lady! I invented COVID! Show a little respect, please!"

But it will never happen.

I now understand the media. After Nixon they were ecstatic: "We can take down a president!"

Some years later when Democrats had the White House, it dawned on the press that if they weren't very, very careful they could actually take down a president.

Mae Musk had her own Covergirl commercial a couple of years back. Maybe having a model mom who shows off at 70 is part of the mystery of why Elon is so ... Elony.

Amber Heard just had a baby. Or rather her surrogate did, and the photos are all over the place. Lawsuit insurance, or rather, conviction insurance. Will this be a Murphy Brown baby that goes away when it's not needed or an Angelina Jolie baby that is always in the news when it can't decide what gender it is or when its Namibian mom wants attention?
