When the artist has to make sure his song is not misunderstood by the mob, thinking he's on the wrong side.

Explaining songs to idiots.

I mentioned in a prior missive the fairly new phenomenon of companies (underwear, fitness, beauty) using morbidly obese women as models, and pushing a message of 'body positivity,' and 'fat is beautiful.'

The weird thing is, it always seems to be fat women and not men.

I believe that these companies are coddling women and playing to their insecurities.

When men are shown in these kinds of ads, they are almost always handsome and in shape. They look like, well, models.

As male-presenting, I can tell you that I don't mind this. It is aspirational...I want that 6-pack stomach too. It doesn't offend me at all.

Are women just weak in this regard?

And if they are, will the pandering lead to an ever-spiraling enabling of women getting even huger than they already are?

The other problem with House of Gucci, besides the accents is the use of Italian opera in the soundtrack. Sometimes that works well (remember A Room with a View?). Sometimes it just gives you a cliched, stereotypical idea of Italy and Italians (think of Nine, the musical based on the Fellini film, and its atrocious "Be Italian" theme). If I actually were Italian I might find something offensive in the movie.

Speaking of stereotypes, were Al Pacino and (the unrecognizable) Jared Leto trying to give realistic portrayals of Aldo and Paolo Gucci, or were they being deliberately lampoonish caricatures, or couldn't they tell the difference, or were the real Guccis that close to stereotypes and caricatures themselves that it didn't matter?

Paying too much attention to war?

Nah.

Spring time in Michigan, still cold as hell. Heart is full, as tomorrow He is Risen.

This may break my anonymity but I hafta share it.

Three year old got a toy dinasour. It sings, and moves, and you put plastic eggs in a recess in its back. Push a buttun, dinosaur "lays" plastic egg beneath its tail.
The kid lay on the floor for fifteen minutes putting eggs in the recess and watching them come out its'ass.

I told him "Next time you see Aunties dog, check and see if it lays eggs"

He replied that it sounds like a good idea.

Can't wait!

Who knows, some good may come of it, kid may end up a proctologist.

Speaking of obesity, Marlboro shut advertise itself as a diet aid.

Much less obesity in the good old days. Even kids in grade school were more fit due to second hand smoke.

WAR IN UKRAINE
Even a relic of the True Cross couldn’t keep the 12,500-ton Moskva afloat

'...The holy relic was purchased from a Catholic church in Europe by Russian Orthodox Christian businessmen and handed over to the cruiser in 2020. Just a few millimeters across, it was stored inside a 19th-century cross that was kept in the cruiser’s on-board chapel, the Tass news agency reported.

Alexander Nevzorov, a well-connected former Russian MP who is now a Kremlin critic, said the unnamed businessmen paid $40 million for the relic. He also claimed that Putin’s admirals believed that the Moskva was invulnerable to attack because the “magic sliver of wood was capable of deflecting missiles and torpedoes”.'

(From the comments section, by Giralduscambrensis:

Someone once, back in the 19th century, researched all the pieces of the True Cross that were spread around the world in various reliquaries, and estimated the sum total weight to be over seven tons.)

The article also includes this gem:

'...Last week, Margarita Simonyan, the head of RT, the Kremlin-funded broadcaster, urged the government to drop any pretence that Russia was a democracy. “Just look at China, do you like China’s economy?” she asked during a prime-time talk show. “I like it. But do they have any freedom?” No, they don’t and they never had it. Maybe that’s not bad, maybe that’s a good thing.”'

For Russians, if you have friendly broadcasters like Margarita Simonyanthis, you don't need enemies.

No point discussing the war since careful, honest, and open minded analysis is verboten.

"Plus size" male models are being packaged as "brawny," maybe "husky" or "beefy" would be another marketing strategy. Truly fat and flabby guys still don't make the cut. Hiring a stout or stocky guy with a size 40 waist apparently satisfies the need for large guys in modeling. Also, if you're tall enough, you can carry a lot of pounds without appearing flabby .

When you think about it, Duluth Trading Company ads have always featured plus size male models -- they're just animated. (they even do pole dancing)

Oh look, just another black man committing mass chaos in South Carolina after shooting up a mall. Too bad the FBI is busy looking for all those White Supremacists and people that got ushered into the Capitol by the Capitol police during the Fedsurrection to do any REAL work in this country.....
