I can’t explain to my sister that taking out the garbage when there’s only two small bags of garbage inside the biggest container allowed is unnecessary, same for the recycling container. We’re only two people and we aren’t home most of the time, so we don’t create that much refuse. I’m not suggesting to her we should hold another week, when it’s so little, because whatever caused me to ponder the idea of waiting, should in theory cause her to come up with it herself. I’m thinking of the workers hooking up the big nearly empty bins every week and what could they be thinking? Are these people playing with us?
Then again, it’s possible I’m wrong about this. The mortgage is in her name.
Had my brother for a few hours this morning, using his chainsaw to cut down some ugly overgrown holly bushes and a few other bush-sized weeds. (But then, what really is a weed?)
He wielded the power tool and I pruned and hauled, and by the time I quit there was a large pile the size of small truck on the neutral strip by the driveway.
It wasn't extremely strenuous or prolonged but I'm sore anyway.
And spring is in the air. Visibly, and inhalably. If that's not a word, it should be.
Where we live, every home is given two 96 gal bins. One for garbage and one for recycling. We use 18 gal garbage bags. What’s the point of giving you this story without the numbers.

Many people continue to wear masks, Dave. Perhaps because people are still dying from SARS-Cov-1. Regardless, some people like to be scarred for life from tattoos - which I will never understand - but I don't consider them to be losers. On the other hand, the idiots who refuse to be vaccinated for the coronavirus don't get much respect from me.

Nothing to explain, Lem. Nobody is going to jail for not taking garbage to the curb and not sorting garbage between regular and recyclable garbage. If the city insists that you have two cans - permanently store the recycle cart in the back yard, bag all garbage and put it in the smallest city cart that you can get simply because the stuff stinks after awhile. The collectors don't have time to check the cans. My city is reasonable - if you don't want to sort everyday garbage, one can is permissible. Did you know that the garbage is sent to be resorted by subcontractors anyway, because recycling is money.
It was amusing watching a chamber concert where the string players and pianist wore masks and wind players did not. In audience I had mask and vaccine check.
Narr: Wife and I did similar work today on two runaway wild cherry trees. We used big shears and a pole saw, no power tools (but I kept thinking of how nice it would be to have a bucket truck; or a drone with a chainsaw attachment). No surprise, we will be sore tomorrow; but the big surprise was the volume of branches and brush we generated.
Not really. I don't think the phrase "toxic masculinity" is a useful construct, but gender identity and sexual orientation are very different phenomena. Terms like masculinity and femininity describe a wide range of behaviors and attributes and imply qualities such as appropriateness, propriety, rightness, acceptability, and desirability. That is, they don't just describe how people behave but how they should behave. A term like "homosexuality" does not have this same is-ought quality.
Gay men, lesbian women, and transgendered don't have much in common outside their minority status.
Speaking of chainsaws, my brother-in-law is quite the handyman. He can fix about about anything. He is also a hoarder of tools. He was visiting one day and I asked him if he had a chainsaw. Four he replied. You have four chainsaws I asked (incredulously)? Oh no he said, I have four in the truck, I have fourteen in all. SMH.
those of you still wearing masks; What will be your reason to Stop wearing them? as long as "people are still dying from SARS-Cov-1" what about the flu?
Seriously, i'm curious, Assuming you Ever stop wearing them; What will be your reason?

I don't really care about masks one way or the other. They were always 50% physical health (they provide some protection, which is more than necessary in some circumstances, less than necessary in others, and helpful in the rest) and 50% mental health (some people feel more comfortable in enclosed spaces when the people around them are masked).
Some people are happy to be dicks ("I'm not responsible for your safety!"). Personally, I'm not. If it seems like many people around me would feel better if I wear a mask, then I'll wear a mask even if I don't think it's necessary for anybody's physical health.
Went to shoot skeet Sunday. Not as exciting as sorting garbage-Lem on on your side in this. After two years not shooting skeet. Boy do I suck! Beautiful day just to be outside.
Arts & Letters Daily (aldaily.com) goes to Substack.
In recognition of Arts & Letters Daily, Steven Pinker called [Denis] Dutton a visionary for recognizing that a website "could be a forum for cutting-edge ideas, not just a way to sell things or entertain the bored"
Entertaining me when I was bored was no small thing, but now that Dutton is long gone the site is just a way to make money for whoever it belongs to now.
Skeet-hunting season already! Where does the time go?
My brother has a small chainsaw that he bought in 1984 when we were renovating Oma's house and 1 acre wooded lot to sell after she died. It's the only one he has and works great for smaller jobs.
Last month, I came across our ancient lawn-mower in the back of the storage shed and decided to leave it on the curb. It hadn't run in about three years (we have a yard guy now) and looked like a relic of war, but it wasn't on the curb that night when I checked.
" If it seems like many people around me would feel better if I wear a mask, then I'll wear a mask even if I don't think it's necessary for anybody's physical health."
Then you are just re-enforcing their irrational fears.

Should garner attention.
Creighton swept Georgetown in baseball today. In a crowd of 1,500, the GT head coach was the only person wearing a cloth mask.
I hope he enjoyed his flight back to DC while wearing his mask. Loser.
Whoever claimed the other day that Boris Johnson would use a green screen to pretend he was in Kiev has a whole lotta 'splainin' to do.

Would seem to me that a"loser" is some guy spending his Sunday evening bitching about someone else wearing a mask.
Started watching Raised by Wolves.

The RedSox managed not getting swept by the Yankees tonight.
Lem, I go through the same thing.
OK: if it's summer, and the garbage will stink if we leave it in the bin another week, that's one thing.
But in the winter and cooler months, it makes no sense.

Is there such a thing as toxic homosexuality?

Lots of wild comments when ot was announced Musk joining Twitter board. Now that he's not?
Juanita Broderick bannedfrom twitter for pushing crazy qanon conspiracy theories after she'd been warned repeatedly to stop it.

We’re in a gated community, gadfly. There might be strict rules about what we can do on our own.

Big difference between tats and a paper ask worn outdoors.

A few things. Were there people wearing paper masks? Georgetown would be abbreviated GU, not GT. Everyone enjoys the flight out of Nebraska.
