So the Biden Administration is still pushing for a "deal" with Iran that would give Iran a flood of money and which everyone knows would empower Iran to develop and produce nuclear weapons.

The Biden Administration is using a broker in the talks: RUSSIA.

Meanwhile, Russia and Iran are making their own deal that would allow Russia to circumvent sanctions by going through Iran, and also provide Russia a place to site some ICBMs and other weapons to threaten the region and whole world.

Anyone care yet?

Tested.
I’ve tested it then,
The hollow sound of a world
Like the end of a journey
Whose expectations proved true.
Or, discovered, the enormous futility
Of the scheme, workers slouch
In a grubby tavern,
Take their pay.
It is the night, ponderous echo
Swelled in a worlds dizzy stream,
Large and warm,
Makes Jonah’s burning cry
Or charred the soul
A twitch of wings
Pinned by your image
A great black butterfly.

So a WNBA player has been detained in Russia.

Complicating factor: They say that found vaping cartridges containing hash oil in her luggage while entering the country. In February.

So arguably it is unrelated to the latest hostilities.

Those U.S. fighters are a part of the roughly 16,000 foreigners who have volunteered to join the military, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced in a video posted to his Telegram channel Thursday.

Some cliches are magnificent, like those sunbeams. Had a great hike up a mountain today with a dozen Covid forest bathing and wild swimming friends. All in snow and ice contrasting the warm trees and rocks disected by black waters. Saw a yellow lab tree a porcupine... that's a possible metaphor for the invasion of Ukraine. I'm going to miss winter, yet can't wait for pond swim season.

The Stanford soccer player who killed herself apparently was about to go on "trial" in a disciplinary action against her.

Her parents said they believe Katie received an email regarding an upcoming disciplinary action that was to be taken concerning an on-campus incident. “Katie was defending a teammate on campus over an incident,” Steve explained. “And the repercussions of her defending that teammate were possibly coming back to her.”

“This letter was kind of the final letter that there was going to be a trial” of some kind, her mother said.

Meanwhile Blinkin is out there patting the Administration on the back, asserting that the the amount of assistance given to Ukraine by the U.S. is "unprecedented." If true, that is very impressive. The U.S. gave a ton of materiel to the United Kingdom during World War II.

I really wish that various American parties would quit engaging in either self-promotion or trying to score political points against the other side. This is real suffering and real death of innocent people, in a way that threatens us all, not crass politics.

So the Biden Administration is still pushing for a "deal" with Iran that would give Iran a flood of money and which everyone knows would empower Iran to develop and produce nuclear weapons.

There is already a deal with Iran. It's called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, and it's been in effect for over six years now. All the US has to do is reverse its foolish decision to withdraw. Trump's hostility to the deal was little more than a product of his knee-jerk anti-Obama animus. Ironically, this led Trump to abandoning of one of Obama's few foreign policy successes and doubling down on one of Obama's biggest foreign policy mistakes: arms sales to the Saudis and support for the Saudi-led war on Yemen.

Meanwhile, Russia and Iran are making their own deal that would allow Russia to circumvent sanctions by going through Iran, and also provide Russia a place to site some ICBMs and other weapons to threaten the region and whole world.

The problem is that the US has come to rely on unilateral economic sanctions as its primary tool of statecraft. Russia and Iran are primary targets of so called secondary sanctions, and it's entirely predictable that they would increase their cooperation to resist US efforts to damage their domestic economies.

The easiest way to improve relations with Iran and Russia is to stop attacking them.

I just finished reading the Dickens’s article. It was very good. I judged before I knew what I was missing. The author seems informative- yet, informal. It was a surprise ending and I wasn’t prepared to see that human side of Dickens in his love affair. How many children did Catherine give him and he publicly shamed her. What an asshole move.

thanx! to whomever it was, that gave the link to the old Lazlo stuff..
Of course, NOW i wonder if the girl with blue hair that worked at McDonnell's STILL has blue hair?

Anyway, here's an except from Cheerleader of the Flies by Laslo
"What do you miss most about civilization, Elizabeth?"

"Oh, there are so many things, Lilly. Running water, electricity, indoor plumbing..."

"Indeed, Elizabeth! Indoor plumbing with soft, luxurious toilet paper!"

"Oh what I would give for just one square of toilet paper, and some body lotion. My knees are SO scrapey..."

"I don't know about all of you, but I miss boys."

"What, Lola? You miss boys?"

"I miss all the boys who lusted after my body. It made me feel special."

"All the boys wanting to have sex with you made you feel special?"

"Oh yeah. I would walk past them in the hall in my cheerleader skirt, and I could feel the heat radiating from them -- they were practically burning just to touch me."

"We don't need boys to validate our existence, Lola!"

"Look around you, Lilly: we're sleeping in dirt. If there was a boy here all I'd have to do is breathe softly on his neck and then he'd build me a hut! I'd put my hand on his shoulder and he'd spend the day fishing for me..."

"Females shouldn't use their sex to get things, Lola!"

"But that's how things get done, Lilly. By ourselves, we just shit in the bushes. A horny boy would dig a hole for us and build a toilet seat out of, like, wood."

"WE could dig a hole if we wanted, Lola."

"Then why haven't we, Lilly? We've been here six weeks and we haven't built a thing -- we just bitch about how being on this island sucks..."

"Well, that's because being on this island isn't fair..."

"Nothing's fair, Lilly. Do you think me stringing some boy along for two months in his hopes of getting just one blow-job is fair?"

"Well..."

"Of COURSE it isn't fair, but that's just how life works. Like: I needed an 'A' in Chemistry, so I let Mr. Allen the chemistry teacher stick a finger in my ass, and I got an 'A'!"

"But I studied real hard in that class and only got a 'B'..."

"Maybe you should've tried wearing a cheerleader skirt..."

I am Not Laslo.

I'm finally reading the biography of GF Kennan which I got awhile back. I couldn't follow his arguments a few years ago but it's all very clear now. The Russians/Soviets were the same back then in terms of being like the Irish, i.e., fun to visit and to know - not. The question was how to manage so the Soviets didn't launch an atomic war because they were losing a conventional war or losing one of their Eastern European colonies. Kennan always thought we should contain the Russians/Soviets at points where they tried to exert pressure but we should also provide a "golden bridge" as advised by Sun Tzu. "Build your opponent a golden bridge to retreat across."
We're not there yet but perhaps we should be thinking about a golden bridge. After all, we don't hate the Russian people. No one yet has suffered more from Putin than they have.

Biden bumbled into this war, left us. with our knickers around our ankles regarding oil supplies, so he is going to give the atom bomb to Iran in order to provide a short term solution to this problem, since giving assurances to US producers that they won't be shut down immediately after making huge investments in American production is a bridge too far. Better to buy Russian and Iranian oil.

As some comedian once said "Is this a great country, or what?"

NYT

Live Updates: Putin Threatens to Strip Ukraine of Statehood, as Russian Advance Slows

'LVIV, Ukraine — As his troops continued to run into stiff resistance in Ukraine, President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia delivered an ominous message to Ukrainians on Saturday, telling government leaders they might lose their statehood and likening the withering sanctions imposed on his country to a “declaration of war.”'

Since Ukraine would almost certainly be controlled by a lackey approved by Putin, if the present Ukrainian Government decided to surrender, there would essentially be no difference from losing their statehood.

So, they will continue to fight on.

IMO, Putin's threat strongly suggests he's finally seeing the handwriting on the wall...that he's made a very big mistake in ordering the invasion of Ukraine.

He'll probably think it may be best to acquiesce to a cease-fire while trying to keep the territory he's captured so far.

But that's unlikely to work as long as the crippling sanctions remain in force.

"The latest outrage comes out of the Eau Claire School District in Wisconsin, where a slide shared during a staff development training session instructed teachers that parents are “not entitled” to know their kids’ gender identity. Slide 56- Talk amongst yourselves!

Facilitators, guide this discussion. Remember, parents are not entitled to know their kids’ identities. That knowledge must be earned. Teachers are often straddling this complex situation. In ECASD, our priority is supporting the student."

So does this mean that when said child gets into trouble, the parents aren't liable?? Why should they be, when they aren't entitled to know anything about their kid according to progressive ideology??? Why are progressives so WEIRD?? WHY do they want kids to hate their parents??

Interesting "rising sun" effect reminiscent of Japanese Battle Flag/Naval Ensign.

I wonder if some long ago Japanese artist saw similar rays and put them on the flag.

We cancelled that flag after the war, but it was brought back by the Japanese military.

It's disconcerting that the flag is still used by the Japanese Maritime Defense Force.

The Iran deal was never submitted to the Senate for ratification, nor did the Iranians ever ratify it. It was/is and executive agreement of of President Obama and then Traitor Biden. Since it was never ratified, it has no force of law except as the President may exert. There's a good argument that the President trying to enforce an executive agreement with a foreign power without Senate ratification is illegal, since the Senate has not delegated the power to enforce that agreement to the President.

In any case, Biden has done everything in power to hinder oil and gas production here, turning us from an exporting nation into a beggar nation. He's been bought by Putin with the Burisma and Moscow mayor wife's payments, as has Hillary with Bill's $500K speaking fee. Bribery is reason to impeach him. The Democrats shielded Biden from a bribery investigation with Trump's first impeachment.

Impeach Joe "Two Scoops" Biden. Traitor.

(1) The Iran deal may exist only as an executive agreement, but there is nothing to stop Biden from implementing it.

(2) We are past time for internal U.S. squabbles. The nation made this bed. Know we are all going to have to sleep in it. There is absolutely no sense in bemoaning what's done is done, or taking any satisfaction in being accurate in saying in 2020 that the country had voted for national suicide.

The president has statutory authority to authorize the waiver of sanctions. The Obama and Trump administrations both made use of this authority.

The Kalamazoo Growlers announced that Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred has been banned for life for “crimes against baseball.”

Manfred has introduced stupid rule changes:

- Instant replays. This slows down the game and stops any pyrotechnics when a manager disputes a call. Imagine no more eruptions such as we saw from Mt. Ste. Lew Piniella. No more manager grabbing and a base and throwing it or kicking his hat around the infield!

Baseball is a game of imperfection. Everyone makes mistakes, players, managers and especially umpires. Trying to make umpiring perfect is just unhuman.

- The extra-inning 2nd-base runner rule. That's an evil innovation.

Baseball should be fun. These rules take much of the fun out of baseball. Life time ban for Rob Manfred!
