"A group of US truckers embarked in a convoy of vehicles on Wednesday on a 2,500 mile cross-country trip from Barstow, California to Washington DC to protest against coronavirus restrictions."

"The group, which is calling itself the 'people’s convoy,' is one of several starting from different parts of the country and due to start arriving in the US capital at various points through to late next week – all inspired by the demonstrations that recently paralyzed Canada’s capital city, Ottawa, for weeks....  Some of the trucker groups are scheduled to arrive in time for Joe Biden’s State of the Union address next Tuesday, 1 March.... The Pentagon said on Tuesday it had approved 400 national guard troops from the District of Columbia, who would not carry weapons, to help at traffic posts from this Saturday through 7 March. About 50 large tactical vehicles were also approved to be placed at traffic posts. In addition, up to 300 national guard troops from outside of Washington were approved to come to the city to assist at traffic posts if needed. Brian Brase, a truck driver who is one of the organizers, said that, regardless of where the trucks stop, 'we’re not going anywhere' until the group’s demands are met.... We plan to stay a while and hope they don’t escalate it the way Trudeau did with his disgusting government overreach'... Organisers bill the convoy as non-partisan, trucker-led, and supported by a wide range of ethnic minorities and religious faiths. However, as in Canada, significant elements of the protest appeared to attract a rightwing crowd...."

From "US trucker convoy gathers for cross-country trip to protest Covid rules/Group calling itself the ‘people’s convoy’ is one of several due to arrive in capital, similar to the demonstrations in Ottawa" (The Guardian).

Stinks of astroturf, and you can bet that there will be genuine fringe elements and agent provocateurs deployed by the regime. This plays into Pelosi's hand.

"However, as in Canada, significant elements of the protest appeared to attract a rightwing crowd...."

That's perhaps the most obvious statement of all time:

1. The protest is headed to DC when the Democratic Party is in control. Protesting!
2. Truckers are truckers and the ultimate "rubber meets the road" pragmatists. They are paid to do what it takes to get the job done on time and on budget. They did this throughout the pandemic too. Even if a trucker is in the Teamsters union, they'd rarely be considered leftwing relative to current left priorities.

I'll wait and see about the value and motives of the US convoy, as it's late to the game.

These people are protesting during wartime!

The fact that the media is reporting it at all is suspicious.

When farmers occupied the National Mall with tractors back in the Carter era, they stayed for several weeks and helped pull motorists out of snowbanks during a winter storm. I predict that the reception for truckers by Dementia Joe's handlers won't be as gentle.

Which is why I'd propose a boycott of trucking to DC rather than a park-in. Let the city face empty shelves for a week or three, with nobody to arrest.

I’m afraid our citizens won’t be as gracious or friendly as Canada’s.

They say it as if that was a contradiction of the rest of the description: non-partisan, trucker-led, and supported by a wide range of ethnic minorities and religious faiths.

And as if it was a bad thing!

Wait till they see the "rightwing crowd" that will probably turn out for this November's elections. They won't like that either.

Boy they gave it away early with that scary assertion that the Convoy is “attracting Right Wing support” didn’t they? After all that’s Rogan’s primary sin too, and Trump and ANY competent leader to the right of the Squad. How dare you attract conservatives!

Mike (MJB Wolf) said...

Maybe Joe’s brownshirts can find a tiny minority woman to stomp on for supporting the Convoy, just like Justin did.

The best move for truckers would be a no-work/slow-work effort targeting a couple high profile cities. Slowing just 2% of deliveries into NYC and DC would go a long way to focusing attention on trucker concerns. Plus, there is no risk to truckers from arrest - a trucker siting on their couch is indistinguishable from any other Democrat voting constituency.

Not restrictions generally, but rather unscientifically supported restrictions, and Mengele experiments (e.g. experimental medical treatments, denial of natural immunity, and restrictions of safe, effective, affordable choices) processed through involuntary choice and force mandates specifically.

Nice idea but six months too late. CV-19 is over. Some blue states and cities love the masks and the lockdowns (and working from home) and they will hang on longer but the word has come down. We need to get the economy rolling, and Biden's Democrat party has midterm elections in November.

Besides, the DC authorities will be even more brutal than Ottawa.

My favorite part is when they put 'peoples convoy' in speech marks. Now they should do that with 'power to the people'. Or 'Peoples Republic' of China. Or...

Albania People's Republic of Albania (1946–1976) and Socialist People's Republic of Albania (1976–1991)
Angola People's Republic of Angola (1975–1992)
Benin People's Republic of Benin (1975–1990)
Bukharan People's Soviet Republic (1920–1925)
Bulgaria People's Republic of Bulgaria (1946–1990)
Republic of the Congo People's Republic of the Congo (1969–1992)
Ethiopia People's Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (1987–1991)
Hungary Hungarian People's Republic (1949–1989)
Cambodia People's Republic of Kampuchea (1979–1989)
Khorezm People's Soviet Republic (1920–1925)
North Korea Democratic People's Republic of Korea (1948–1992/2009)[a]
Mongolia Mongolian People's Republic (1924–1992)
Mozambique People's Republic of Mozambique (1975–1990)
Poland Polish People's Republic (1952–1989)
Romania Romanian People's Republic (1947–1965)
Tuvan People's Republic (1921–1944)
Ukrainian People's Republic of Soviets (1917–1918; united into the Ukrainian Soviet Republic)
South Yemen People's Democratic Republic of Yemen (1967–1990)
Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia (1945–1963)

None of which were places any actual not-in-power people ended up wanting to live in. Unlike the people's convoy which will actually welcome anyone who wants to be with them. However, if you are against them, you'll probably not be welcome. Go figure. It's like BLM, only with far fewer racist people.

This is a very bad idea. Bullies like Polosi win by making you so mad you fight back and then they stomp you and say they are the victim. The smart play is to stay home and work on the election, take over Congress. Then start your own investigations including subpoenas for all the Russia gate FBI misdeeds.

Copycat protest is a bad way to go, the people you are protesting have had time to war game you.

Michelle Dulak Thomson said...

I agree with jk. The easiest thing for truckers to do is just to withdraw their labor. No blockades for DC . . . but also no food. Or anything else. As someone here (I think) said last week, the only thing worse than truckers taking their trucks to Ottawa is truckers not taking their trucks to Ottawa.

Of course, this would require support from us non-truckers. And, predictably, they have gone to extreme lengths to prevent this in Canada; US next. I don't know how it could be arranged. Maybe a family willing to "sponsor" a trucker could give privately, via mailed checks? But there still probably has to be some online nexus, and there is no way the Biden Administration will let that pass.

Why I’m suspicious of the organizers and expect there is a false flag coming. “People’s Convoy” It is generally true that left wingers believe conservatives of all sorts are ignorant rubes. They’re not. And there’s no way I can believe that any right wing movement would label itself as “People’s” anything. That phrasing has long been wholly owned by Commies and Commie sympathizers like the entire Democrat party.

If they really want to protest the idiotic restrictions, stop making deliveries.

Because I suspect the people who oppose what's been going on for the last two years are the same people who've been stocking up.

Rather, try an embargo. Cease running to some places or only run on some days. Try "work to rule" also and observe every workplace rule and regulation.
