Said Kanye West, quoted in "Kanye West rants he ‘needs to be back home’ during visit to Skid Row" (NY Post).
"The narrative God wants is to see that we can be redeemed in all these relationships. We’ve made mistakes. I’ve made mistakes. I’ve publicly done things that were not acceptable as a husband, but right now today, for whatever reason — I didn’t know I was going to be in front of this mic — but I’m here to change the narrative.... I’m not letting E! write the narrative of my family. I’m not letting Hulu write the narrative of my family.… I am the priest of my home.... I have to be next to my children as much as possible. So, when I’m out the house, I’ve got a house right next to the house. I’m doing everything to be right next to the situation.... I’m trying to express this in the most sane way, the most calm way possible, but I need to be back home."
His stream of consciousness is interesting and revealing, but it's hard not to think he — not Satan, not the "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" script writers — created his predicament and that he's got no special access to God.
The priest of my home... a house right next to the house... Interesting, but pathetic.
ADDED: His theory seems to be that God will intervene in the events of his life with Kim Kardashian because God knows what influencers they are. If they get back together, the little people will — on their own power — work to get their lives together. God is efficient that way, you see.

This is a man's world, this is a man's world
But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl
You see, man made the cars to take us over the road
Man made the train to carry the heavy load
Man made electric light to take us out of the dark
Man made the boat for the water, like Noah made the ark
This is a man's, man's, man's world
But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl
Man thinks about our little bitty baby girls and our baby boys
Man made them happy, 'cause man made them toys
And after man make everything, everything he can
You know that man makes money, to buy from other man
This is a man's world
But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing, not one little thing, without a woman or a girl
He's lost in the wilderness
He's lost in bitterness, he's lost lost
and that he's got no special access to God.
?????
I don't think the house right next to the home is pathetic. It's sad the family isn't all together, but I like the idea that since they are apart (and Kim is dating!), they can be close enough that young children can so easily be with both parents.
One of the things I ponder every now and then is how much the ancient Greek gods where pretty much the same thing as today's show business celebrities.
Maybe some of the Greek gods were nuts.
I really don't know.
“…interesting but pathetic.” Do you mean “pitiable” or “contemptible”?
If anybody is still in graduate school and still in the 1990s an interesting paper topic would be Kanye as the "site" where various discourses meet and intersect.
He's unbalanced, but in a way that makes him interesting, or at least keeps him in the headlines.
How clueless can you be, to go to a homeless shelter and talk about the house you've now got next to your old house so you can easily see your children. Interesting, that reference to people stepping over the homeless to get to the Gucci store. Letting everyone know he's down with the ORCs and all the smashing and grabbing and mass looting? Just part of the struggle.
"it's hard not to think he . . . created his predicament and that he's got no special access to God"
True, but that's always hard, with any appeal to the divine in any religious tradition.
"The priest of my home... a house right next to the house... Interesting, but pathetic."
True, but the man is groping toward his basic obligations as a man and a human being, which is what God means practically.
Go Kanye go. Now you see him, now you don’t.
Bipolar Affective Disorder. Other explanations add nothing.

So does this mean Pete Davidson is the Devil?
Got it. You're not a believer.
What narcissism! Who knew Kanye and Kardashian had split and who really has a fuck to give?
I have heard of those people. Now I've heard of them again.
He's right though.
If the greater populace who pays attention to this sort of thing sees reconciliation, they will be more amenable to reconciliation in their personal lives.
U hope he succeeds.
Kanye’s belief he and Kim are destined to be reunited is like Trump’s belief he will be reinstated as President: Who are we to doubt God’s mysterious ways?
His theory seems to be that God will intervene in the events of his life with Kim Kardashian because God knows what influencers they are.
I guess I don't see that in what he is saying. He thinks God will bring them together, and as a result people will be motivated to get back together with their own partner. I don't read it as him saying that's *why* God would do it.
But then, I have a soft spot for Kanye. I suspect there are multiple things going on with him, maybe he's on the spectrum and is also Bipolar. In general, he seems pretty harmless. I do believe he loves God though, and believes in His power.
I think we’re glimpsing a limit to Althouse’s comprehension of weird charismatic communicators. Got Trump pretty well, but doesn’t get the Kanye rhetoric. Anyway the Devil didn’t do it, Devil made ye do it. Happy Thanksgiving.
So does this mean Pete Davidson is the devil?
Yes. Just not necessarily the way you intended.
He needs to drop her like a hot rock with a huge, grotesque ass.
The Kardashians are everything that is wrong with the modern world.
Interesting, but pathetic.
It's rare that you write anything that offends me, but this is hella offensive. The man loves his family. It's a very Christian concept that a man ought to be Priest of his "little Church", his home. Shouldn't we applaud black men defying stereotypes and stepping up? Yes he is Kanye and he is eccentric and egotistical and weird, but this impulse of his is the opposite of weird.
