The Washington Post ought to have the nerve to open a comments section on this article.

"Netflix CEO argues that Chappelle’s new special, criticized as transphobic, is too popular to cancel" by Julian Mark.
The memo followed condemnation from Jaclyn Moore, a transgender writer who worked on the Netflix original “Dear White People”....
Last week, Moore... wrote on Twitter that Chappelle used to be one of her “heroes.” “But he said he’s a TERF,” Moore wrote. “He compared my existence to someone doing blackface.” Moore said she was “done” with Netflix.

I recommend more speech. Why is what transgender women are doing different from blackface? Moore's answer is implied and worth discussing: Because it's "my existence."

By the way, I was just reading the 1995 book "Last Train to Memphis: The Rise of Elvis Presley" and I encountered this:

[Dewey Phillips had a radio show of a type that] had started in Memphis and that was springing up in one form or another all across the South: black music on a white radio station with a strong Negro audience and a growing, if for the most part unacknowledged, core of young white listeners with a growing, if for the most part unexamined, buying power. ...

Perhaps [Sam Phillips and Dewey Phillips] wandered over to Beale Street, where Dewey, who has been described as “transracial” by more than one admirer, could go wherever he liked, where Dewey, Sam came to see with some ambivalence, was “a hero, everyone loved him.”

Of course, Dewey wasn't attempting to look like a black person, so that's not like blackface at all, but there is the idea of a white person finding his "existence" (or identity) with things associated with black people and viewing it in a very positive way.

If you look up the word "transracial," you'll be swamped with material about the "transracial" adoption of children, so I failed to find other examples of "transracial" that paralleled "transgender."

ADDED: Let's be clear about what Chappelle said: "[TERFS] look at transgender women the way we blacks look at blackface. They go 'Oh, this bitch is doing an impression of me!’"

How about Rachel Dolezal, who “found her identity “ as a black person?

Miscegnation is one path to elimination of racism in this country. Make it impossible to tell one's race based on skin tone, due to having parents of different races or ethnicities, and in a generation or so the Asians and Hispanics and Italians living peacefully with their Swahili/Nordic neighbors.

So it doesn’t matter that in The Closer, Dave also insulted rural White people, overweight Black people, gay men, lesbians, Asians, and also told what I have to admit is a really funny joke that essentially questions the right of Israel to exist. Of course I don’t agree with that sentiment, but it was a clever joke. And it might provide supporters of Israel with some insight into the thinking of their opponents. Not saying that Dave is among them, but he is providing a unique way to look at their perspective.

He also told a rather heartwarming, and now actually verified as true, story about his friendship with a transwoman comedian.

It seems that most people are missing the message that ran through the entire show, his meta-commentary if you will. And that is, at least as I understood it: value, respect and care about people, and don’t focus on labels and groups, because everybody can find a grievance and put themselves in an aggrieved group if they want to, even white men. But that doesn’t really help anybody at the end of the day.

What a deep thinker. We really need to listen to this man-turned-woman because we need to make sure that her existence isn't threatened by people who have different opinions.

There you go again, with your reasonable liberal sentiments. The point is that these things are not "worth discussing." They are only worth imposing, or else. "My existence," as defined by moi, me, myself, trumps all. The meaning of which, of the entire universe in fact, is mine, and mine alone, as robed Tony K told us. Forget discussion: fall in line.

But Chapelle shows trans-progressives haven't won this phase of the culture war just yet.

That's the positive spin on it, but you've commented before on "blackfishing", which is the much more negative response to that sort of racial ambiguity today.

Other than people like Rachel Dolezal or that maniac Oli London who had plastic surgery to turn himself into a "Korean," you don't see many people openly claiming to have changed races. Though you do see people attempting to "pass," e.g. those perennial academic scandals where it turns out some stridently non-White academic/activist turns out to have rein arischen Abstammung (or at least be 100% White). Even Dolezal originally just wanted to pass in secret I guess. I don't think "transracial" has ever caught on in this context, other than as a critical/pejorative analogue of "transgender."

Transracialism is hard because it crashes into racist stereotypes even harder than trangender crashes into sexist stereotyping. Even the process of changing names -- e.g. Western transgender fixation on "deadnames" -- could turn pretty racist pretty quickly. Is Peter going to demand you call him Pedro? Is Sean going to demand you call him DeShawn? There's a sensitivity around stereotypical ethnic names that doesn't exist with gendered names. It may be weird, but it's not particularly sexist when Alistair becomes Alison, or Tristan becomes Iseult. And so on. The equivalent of the problem of female erasure that transgenderism creates/exacerbates is just so much worse when it becomes about race. And someone pleading "my existence" isn't going to be enough to get people to ignore the implicit racism in the proposition. At least not yet.

I wonder if anybody will comment about the trans student who raped a girl in the Loudonville school district. Her father was the one arrested at the school board meeting when he tried to talk about their cover up of it. We were told we were crazy if we thought men would pretend to be girls so they would be allowed into bathrooms and locker rooms and we were called transphobic. WE are owed an apology, and this father should sue the HELL out of the school system that tried to cover it up.

Johnny Otis, who played an important role in the development of early R&B, but who is probably best remembered today for "Willie and the Hand Jive," was the son of Greek immigrants but chose to live his life as a member of the black community.

Yes, let's talk about transgenderism.

There is an organization called the Women’s Fund of Omaha. It has at least a $20m budget; surely most of the money from liberal Susie Buffett.

It was the moving force behind a recent attempt to change the sex ed standards in NE. One thing they wanted was to inform 5th graders about transgender hormones. Thankfully, they were stopped by my friend and GOP candidate for Governor Jim Pillen.

Think about that. Kids don’t have the legal, intellectual or moral authority to make life-changing decisions like that but the Left is pushing for it. You have to be 21 to buy alcohol or tobacco, but Libs are perfectly fine letting children change their genders.

This is should be made illegal. Just like kids under 16 can't consent to having sexual intercourse, then should NOT be allowed to consent to changing genders. Kids must be protected. Protected from liberals. Protected from rotten and crazy doctors. Protected from their crazy parents.

I used to think I couldn't be surprised about modern depravity, but this is totally shocking to me.

The Left is pure evil. The Left won’t protect children.

No. Quite the opposite.

A "TERF" says that a woman is a woman, and a man is not a woman. And so-called "transgender women," says the TERF, is NOT a woman AT ALL.

Critical sex theory says that sex and gender are merely power constructs and whoever is in power says what sex and gender are. Thus, it is appropriate to impose upon everyone the obvious lie that a man can be a woman. Transgender ideology is the critical theory, not the "TERF" who recognizes basic concepts of reason and rational thought.

And, also, everyone gets jokes made about them. Well adjusted, mentally balanced people take it with good humor.

Blackface was the salient feature of minstrel shows, which mocked and denigrated black people, so that now true blackface as viewed as a token of racism. Putting on darker makeup to dress up as Dianna Ross, or Michael Jordan does not mock or denigrate them, but is a token of admiration, and shouldn't be called blackface (though that ship may have sailed). Similarly, becoming a transgender woman does not bespeak an antipathy toward women, though, perhaps no admiration either if one believes that one truly is a woman.
Still adult human males are men and adult human females are women. And if you have neither XY nor XX chromosomes, your gender status is beyond my expertise. Nevertheless, I think any pair of humans that can naturally procreate includes a male and a female.

Should all gay man be coached to appear delicate and sensitive or are they entitled to go bear hunting if they so desire.....The special was okay. But he is so woke that it is close to a parody of wokeness. Constantly apologizing for talking about black culture and black music even though he is not black, for example. Never apologizing for talking ab out American culture even though he is a Brit, of course.

Anyway, he has talked about Elvis in several episodes so far and will talk ab out him again in future eps. I will not be the least bit surprised if he tries to make the case that Elvis was a closeted gay.

He has already made the case that Little Richard is a closeted transgender (m to f) and would "be" a woman if he had his druthers.

and that Big Mama May Thornton was actually a man living as a trans woman. (I think it was her but it may have been one of the other woman blues singers he was talking about1)

Kind of the way people want to claim that Thoreau (and Lincoln and a hundred others in history) were gay even though there is nothing to suggest it.

Great podcast if you can put up with his smarmy wokeness. I keep saying "No Mas!" but then I keep coming back after a few days.

The Washington Post ought to have the nerve to open a comments section on this article.

It's profoundly weird to have a "journalist" class that feels superior to ordinary people and has no interest in hearing what they have to say. Instead of loving free speech they are actively hostile to it. They want to censor and control and indoctrinate people.

91% of paid reviewers think Fauci is a great documentary. Only 2% of the audience agrees with them.

That's an insane disconnect.

Chappelle's show is funny, yes, but it's also dramatic and thought-provoking. One of the things that really bugs him -- and a lot of people -- is how narrative is surpassing truth in our media culture.

During The Closer, Chappelle maintains that “gender is a fact.”

It's insane to deny biological reality. What do you say to people who deny that "woman" or "man" is a factual reality? You can see why a comedian would be drawn to this topic.

He goes on to say that “every human being in this room, every human being on Earth, had to pass through the legs of a woman to be on Earth...

This is biological reality. How do liberals even teach sex education at this point? Chappelle starts off by defining reality. And that sets up his joke.

before likening trans women’s genitalia to two brands of plant-based meat substitutes.

That's funny. The people who can't laugh at that are the people who cannot recognize biological realities like "man" or "woman" or "baby" or "human reproduction." A sex-change operation is very much like plant-based meat substitution. It's similar, or as Chappelle might say, "tastes the same." But it's not the same thing.

To insist that it's exactly the same thing is to be a fascist opposed to reality and truth. And it's not surprising that fascists who want to impose a narrative lie on a population are big fans of censorship and implicit use of force to do so.

J.K. Rowling Writes about Her Reasons for Speaking out on Sex and Gender Issues

"All the time I’ve been researching and learning, accusations and threats from trans activists have been bubbling in my Twitter timeline. This was initially triggered by a ‘like’. When I started taking an interest in gender identity and transgender matters, I began screenshotting comments that interested me, as a way of reminding myself what I might want to research later. On one occasion, I absent-mindedly ‘liked’ instead of screenshotting. That single ‘like’ was deemed evidence of wrongthink, and a persistent low level of harassment began.

Months later, I compounded my accidental ‘like’ crime by following Magdalen Berns on Twitter. Magdalen was an immensely brave young feminist and lesbian who was dying of an aggressive brain tumour. I followed her because I wanted to contact her directly, which I succeeded in doing. However, as Magdalen was a great believer in the importance of biological sex, and didn’t believe lesbians should be called bigots for not dating trans women with penises, dots were joined in the heads of twitter trans activists, and the level of social media abuse increased.

I mention all this only to explain that I knew perfectly well what was going to happen when I supported Maya. I must have been on my fourth or fifth cancellation by then. I expected the threats of violence, to be told I was literally killing trans people with my hate, to be called cunt and bitch and, of course, for my books to be burned, although one particularly abusive man told me he’d composted them.

The debate points pro on this topic (although it’s not clear the posters agree what the topic is) only show the fundamental contradiction between Post Modernism and society. The gender and race woke start from the meta perspective, I.e. it’s my reality, and try to impose that on society as a shared reality. This is the essential reason why the discussion is never satisfying to anyone and frankly, makes my head hurt. You can’t have it both ways. Either you buy into Post Modernism or you don’t. If you do, you cannot sustain a position based on your meta experience and perception of reality and expect everyone else to accept it in the face of their own meta experience and reality. This is also why Post Modernism is the source systemic evil in our world.

Society is and always will be the result of all participants hearing all voices and settling on a current view that corresponds with the majority view and also provides sufficiently for social cohesion. This is a complicated process that takes time and is never settled once and forever. The U.S. used to have a broad consensus centered on Judeo-Christian values, but is currently in a place where pagan views are on the rise. This societal movement, if it continues, will lead us back to far earlier times when anything is acceptable and society breaks down as a force of cohesion. If and when that occurs, the only order in society comes from “the great men” who rule. That is, we will be back at some form of imperial rule with no God given rights. I wonder if the woke ever think about this?

Is there something "masculine" and aggressively attention-grabbing about the most over the top drag performances? Or is that bending and twisting gender too many times? Will it break if we do that?

Elvis on the spectrum? Some gender spectrum or the autism spectrum? The latter is more unexpected and may be more interesting, but a lot of creative people are a little autistic. Clearly, the solitary and reclusive geniuses may be, but is performing for large audiences compatible with a degree of autism, or is it very much the opposite of autistic?

I recently had a hospital form with my "gender identity" already filled out as male, which isn't how it's supposed to work since nobody asked me.

So I went to the hospital's website to change my "gender identity" to "Canadian", but you had to select an "identity" value from a dropdown list, which is almost the same thing as "binary". They had about 4 different ways to enter your "sex", including "assigned at birth", and "on driver's license".

Dave also insulted rural White people, overweight Black people, gay men, lesbians, Asians, and also told what I have to admit is a really funny joke that essentially questions the right of Israel to exist.

Is there any other country whose right to exist is questioned? I wonder why that is.
