"The same people who sat at home praising essential workers as heroes now repay them with exclusion and sneering condescension."

That's the subtitle for "Lectures From Limousine Liberals" by Bridget Phetasy (Tablet). Excerpt:
The sneering contempt many in the left-wing pundit class have demonstrated in their recent rhetoric about the “unvaccinated,” many of whom are lower-income people of color, is in direct opposition to the years of “diversity, equity, and inclusion.”
These days, the men and women who worked through the whole pandemic are being shamed and patronized by the very people whose cushy existences they facilitated for a year and a half. The liberal elites who holed up in the Hamptons and didn’t have contact with the outside world for a year are ready to get back to their SoulCycle classes, even if it means firing a few people they once called “frontline heroes.”
The irony of the same people who screamed in the faces of policemen at the height of a pandemic turning around to demand that these cops now shut up, stop asking questions, and get vaccinated is almost too much to bear.
Apparently, it’s difficult to comprehend that the people who never stopped working while you were in your bubble, who bore the greatest risk throughout the whole pandemic, are making their own calculated decisions about getting a vaccine.....

It's defense of people-of-color points for her.

People of color is not a good argument but they're used as tokens in arguments a lot, presumably when there isn't another argument that would do better.

More than likely, we will all be exposed to the virus, eventually. Many already had the disease, and now have a natural immunity to it superior to vaccination, and don't need a vaccine. Those who are vaccinated will be exposed, and may have a mild case or asymptomatic case or fight the virus off immediately and completely - or may die of it, if they are as immunocompromised, elderly and weak as Colin Powell. But those unvaccinated who are exposed will statistically have a worse time of it.

That the outcome statistics for a 25 year old healthy person differ greatly from those for a 60 year old obese diabetic needs then to be considered by vaccine recipients, and compared with the statistics for complications from getting the vaccines. Well and good, do the math, and decide.

New York didn't close the subways, and imported COVID into nursing homes, and refused to use the Javits Center or the hospital ship sent for COVID cases, leading to overwhelmed hospitals. And now I'm supposed to follow the New York "leadership" on this issue and honor their mandates? Pull the other leg, its got bells on.

Progressivism in a nutshell. They will turn on you in the blink of the eye. Look what a BLM white girl did to the State Senator in Wisconsin. She got away with it. They can do and say whatever they want. It is not going to end well.

Always keep in mind that the over-arching goal for statists is increasing the power of the State. What groups are defended or attacked can change as the party line changes, but the goal remains unchanged: power--keeping it, and expanding it.

I hate to break the news to you, but…they never really mean it. They just say that cause they need their votes*.

* Nowadays they just need their ‘votes’. Now shut up and stop asking questions, racist.

Phetasy is an interesting, intelligent, witty woman who doesn't abide bullshit or horseshit. Great piece. She's doing well for a former heroin addict. Maybe something for Hunter to aspire.

The photos of the Metropolitan Fashion Ball, in which all the glitterati were unmasked, and all the servers were masked made this point eloquently.

The elites ARE consistent. They always demand what is best for them and will push with all of the influence that they have to get it. Keeping essential services open during the height of the pandemic was in their interest in order to save granny. Now they want to enjoy life again and it will be hell to pay for anyone who gets in the way. This is totally consistent with their loathing of Trump who threatened the money-making schemes of the government-connected establishment, especially those related to China. Any believing that the elites care about America unless it lines up with their self-interest are delusional. Patriotism and duty to society and country are for the little people.

Local lefty pundit who writes for the Los Angeles Times (now there's a tautology--what other point of view appears in the paper's pages?) now says that the city is "too soft" on its unvaccinated firemen and policemen. The city has backed off its "get jabbed or get fired" date.

Exactly. We need to coddle the unvaccinated because they are meek weaklings. Social Darwinism is too harsh depending on whoms ox is gored.

This pathological conduct by the fearful elite is characteristic of a cult in the late frenzy stage. Fear has been stoked; a path to salvation has been prescribed; the faithful are performing the rite of sacrifice; but now all is threatened by the conduct of the unclean. They must be anathematized: banished or, better yet, exterminated.

Pass the popcorn.

The crazy idiots that now run this country are determined to force everyone to obey. What they are to obey is, at the moment, to accept a unique injection unlike any vaccine in medical history. There is some evidence that it ameliorates the virus illness in the elderly, those over 60 for example. There is no evidence that that it is needed for the healthy children now being mandated. There seems to be a growing sense of resistance that is probably as much a result of coercion as science. Howard thinks they are weaklings but "weaklings" like this built this country and Howard has forgotten what he may have known about how this country's history.

A rare sign of sanity is a decision by some Ohio hospitals to accept "Natural Immunity" in those who had recovered from the virus.

Considering the societal pressure being applied towards getting vaccinated, it's self-evident that people refusing to do so are the opposite of "meek."

I don't call the radial progressive democrat left "liberal" anymore.
They are not liberal and do not deserve the word liberal.

I'm a classical liberal, liberty lover, conserve "conservative" liberty adherent, +free speech absolutist.

John Brennan vilifies "liberty" and "libertarians" on CNN - calling them criminals and terrorists. John Brennan can go to hell.

The left are progressive authoritarian woke Castro-family-wannabees + antifa-nazi corruption excusing liars. Biden on down.

Tablet is one of the more interesting magazines out there now. They are a Jewish magazine, but they publish more than a few conservative articles, and not conservative in the neocon sense of the word that Commentary has adopted, and they don't overdue the Zionism like Commentary does. Tablet publishes intellectual, serious articles, but they aren't protective of current intellectual and political elites. They're willing to question progressivism, the official story, and the establishment narrative.

Unless you defy the regime.

I appreciate that you are removing your mask and just being honest about your fascist proclivities.

People everywhere are taking their masks off and no longer hiding behind any euphemisms. The enemies of freedom are outing themselves now that they got their hero in the White House.

BLM were just unorganized thugs and hooligans.

Presented as if there is some sort of contradiction. There isn't: anyone who deviates from the progressive narrative or obstructs progressive power deserves sneering contempt. If essential workers help to stir useful panic and anti-Trump sentiment, they are heroes; otherwise, not. The should know their proper role and stick to it.

Howard: "Exactly. We need to coddle the unvaccinated because they are meek weaklings. Social Darwinism is too harsh depending on whoms ox is gored."

Alternatively, the vaccinated are in such danger, since the vaccines really aren't effective but are quite lucrative to certain groups of people, that they need the unvaccinated completely isolated and away from all other "acceptable" human beings so that the vaccinated vaccinations can be effective.

And make sure to get your boosters every 3 months / then 2 months / then monthly........

Police and firefighters are “meek weaklings”? Next time you’re pulled over for a traffic violation say that to the officer who comes to your window.

Howard,

Social Darwinism is too harsh depending on whoms ox is gored.

The word you want is "whose." You need to realize that not everything takes the dative, yes? If I were to write, "on whom would the decision fall?" that "whom" would be correct. But while you have also here a "whom" preceded by an "on," the "on" is part of "depending on," which doesn't get the dative. Easy mistake to make -- though in the case of this platform, the red underlining ought to have alerted you.
