State Sen. Tim Carpenter "wasn’t acting like an ally. He was filming them and frightening" the protesters, and now "we’re talking about a white man who holds a powerful position."

Said Jessa Nicholson Goetz, lawyer for the defendant Kerida O'Reilly, quoted in  "State senator who was battered during 2020 protest said he came Downtown to a 'hornet's nest'" (Wisconsin State Journal).
Carpenter testified he did not know that [the protesters had forbidden photography], but said he considers himself an ally of the Black Lives Matter movement. He paused to take a picture before walking from his car to his Capitol office, he said, not realizing his phone was set to shoot video. His 11-second video shows [defendant Kerida] O’Reilly and [former co-defendant Samantha] Hamer charging toward him before his phone is jostled away....

That's what happens when you attack someone who's shooting video: There's video of your attack. And what does it matter that they had their own anti-photography rule or that Carpenter would have followed their rule if he'd only known about it?

The attack on Carpenter happened on June 24, 2020, the night protesters tore down the Capitol Square statues of "Forward" and Hans Christian Heg, that is, the night they tore down their own reputation.

We're told that "as a crowd closed in on him during a midnight protest over police brutality last year, just before some in the group began to hit and kick him," Carpenter said he thought, "Holy cannoli, what’s going to happen?" That's the sort of Wisconsin form of expression that people outside of Wisconsin find folksy and charming, but, as Carpenter went on to elaborate, what he thought was that he would be killed and he continues to suffer from "a lot of anxiety and depression."

There's also this enigmatic Carpenter quote: "It’s created a lot of political difficulties that weren’t appreciated." I'll just guess that means he really, really wanted the image of ally and now, here he is, witness for the prosecution.

UPDATE: The jury acquitted O'Reilly.

Amazing, isn't it? Says a lot about who they are.

Filming = frightening. Even if the claim is utterly disingenuous lawyer-speak, also says a lot about who they are.

Leftwing violence, rioting, and insanity = sanctioned by the democrat party and their corporate pals in the corporate press.

Anyone who supports Trump should be put on a no-fly list and sent to prison - stripped of all access to the law. Merrick is designing the re-education camps as we speak.

oh look - OT: Here is what the billionaire Castro family does to you if you dare speak out. Democrats and their Antifa wish they had such power. Working on it.

The Castro family should be lined up and shot - che style- and their vast riches given back to THE PEOPLE OF Cuba. Right, oh morally pure American progressives who claim to care about the little guy?

To be a Democrat is to be in an abusive relationship, in which you must vote with the herd OR ELSE. You must say their catechism “orangemanbad” and “we must control the weather” and “no enemies on the left.” You must endure beatings and verbal berating so the craziest members of The Party can fulfill their role of destroying civil society. You must enthusiastically embrace the confiscation of income and never ever criticize Big Government even when it is harming your own family and city and state. OR ELSE.

A Democrat politician is physically attacked, but he’s too scared to really go after his attackers because they are also his political base.

It’s hilarious

Very much hoping the book gets thrown at these morons. A year and a day behind bars and a few $100K of fines and legal fees would be a good start.

You can’t always get what you want. Like the get out viral pastor in Canada wanted to be jailed but the judge instead released him with time served (3days) because he didn’t want to make him a martyr. So the viral pastor again violated the terms of his release coming here to the US to tell his story and was rearrested. But again the judge let him go because again he didn’t want to give the viral pastor what he wanted 😩

Mitt Romney praised and proudly marched with the openly marxist, anti-American, anti-Christian, anti-nuclear family BLM.

To help "conserve conservstism" and "protect muh normz".

That's what Kerida O'Reilly should have done too.

He was "frightening" the "protesters". So they beat him up.

They weren't frightened. They beat him up to intimidate anyone who might collect evidence on them in the future. Criminals have been doing this for hundreds of years.

Do these thugs think anybody buys their shit? I doubt even their "allies" do in the privacy of their own thoughts.

BLM and antifa are the bully boys of the Democrat Party (Democrat not Democratic because there's nothing democratic about the Democrat Party). The Democrats roll them out to frighten the electorate into voting for Democrats.

Portland's gotten a whole lot of antifa love lately. About 100 antifa terrorists sacked downtown Portland, causing $500K in damages. The cops did nothing. Oregon and Portland are ruled by anarchist-supporting Democrats. The only way antifa will be suppressed is if the Portlandians rise up and do the suppression themselves. They won't.

Carpenter testified he did not know that [the protesters had forbidden photography]...

There's the "holy cannoli" moment, the subsequent assault and battery is mere detail. The notion that BLM, Antifa, or what the hell, the Ku Klux Klan can ban any Constitutional right and enforce their cockamamie "ban" with violence is full blown Brown Shirt National Socialism.

The three sociopaths who started BLM - 3 women - are all rich. Isn't that neat? All while blacks and black communities suffer under the steam roller that is BLM rioting/ racist hate mongering. (No - I'm not saying that blacks have never been treated unfairly by police. But the stats do not match what the left sell.)

One of the tragedies these women use to sell their divisive racist snake oil narrative that "all police are BAD and all whites are Horrible!" (except Joy Behar) is the tragic story of a sniper in Dallas who shot 5 police officers in 2016. A BLACK chief of police attempted to disarm the sniper, and during the negotiations he realized the sniper had no remorse (as the sniper kept joking about how happy he was to have killed 5 white police officers and wanted to kill more white people) and was completely crazy. So - as a last resort they killed the sniper. Of course a grand jury was sent in to try to punish the police chief and the police who made that call - even though the man who made the call WAS BLACK.

Attacking a (state) Senator, and TRYING to beat him to death?

Serious Question.... Is THAT, an act of Insurrection ?? If Not, Why Not?
Serious Follow Up Question.. How many Senators did Ashli Babbitt attack and Try to beat to death?

Shouldn't Nicholson Goetz be charged with perjury for falsely claiming - “[Carpenter] wasn’t acting like an ally. He was filming them and frightening them.”

The video shows that they were the opposite of frightened.

Wow well said Achilles. I love the 'veneer of hypocrisy" so much I'll probably use it without attribution, like a progressive.

Mike (MJB Wolf) said...

The FBI told Congress that they don't even track crimes committed by Antifa or BLM (such as denying the civil rights to free association, life and liberty) because they are not considered "domestic terrorists" like the Proud Boys. Atifa and BLM are "movements" according to FBI, which explains the BM in BLM. It smells like a "movement" all right.

You've gotta be pretty far gone as a liberal to think rioters . . er, "protesters" had any reputation to tear down. But they did garner more of a reputation for thugdom.

Violent protesters, or as we call them here in Austin, rioters, who successfully stop everyone from filming their behavior might be surprised at the lack of evidence available when they get violently oppressed by official forces and/or anyone else tired of their violence.

Some wise person once said that a movement has come of age when it can control the extremists in its own ranks. If Tim Carpenter wants to be an ally of the people who attacked him, then being a witness for the prosecution is problematic. But if Carpenter wants to be an ally of BLM, then there's no problem at all. He should proudly speak the truth and put these people away.

I think it would be interesting to study the protestors and to chart the relationship between their physical attributes, their political devotion, (probably not the correct term - maybe political orientation),* and their fitness, (again probably not the best term). I would also suggest that two types of physical fitness be used, one for those that are considered fat and one for those that are considered skinny. for example you have the ugly, fat and conservative fanatic and also the ugly, can't bench press 85 lbs. patriot. Both are outliers on the fitness scale but at opposite ends of the scale. so, in this case, the perpetrator appears to be ugly, a fanatic and obese. I am wondering if that is generally the case. I am wonder, although I strongly suspect, that it would be true regardless of political affiliation, left or right - I use those terms because I don't believe that the terms 'liberal' and 'conservative' as they are historically understood apply in the current age because these people are, in truth, neither liberal or conservative.

How does your so called law work in this situation?

could he not have refused to press charges ? was no attempt made to dissuade/persuade him ?

is some other form of score settling happening under color of law?

No, defund the police and Kyle Rittenhouse lays down the law.

And if there's no police to arrest him, that means Kyle and his friends lay down the law.

And since the lefties have already stated that it's perfectly acceptable for private citizens to decide who can and can't photograph events, perhaps part of "laying down the law" will be to deal with anyone trying to record their "citizen's justice".

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting a different result. The lefties keep on changing the rules, and then being surprised when we go along with the change, and make them regret it.

See: Bork, Garland, and RBG

The final decision on whether to prosecute is not made by the victim. As our so-called law sees it, the crime was committed not against Tim Carpenter, but against the state (because the state holds a monopoly on violence) and if the state has enough to push forward without Tim Carpenter's cooperation, it will.
