"Prince William, who joined crisis talks with his grandmother and father over the decision to remove Andrew from public life, agrees that the change should be permanent."

"'There is no way in the world he’s ever coming back, the family will never let it happen,' says a royal source. 'William is no fan of Uncle Andrew,' says a friend of the Duke of Cambridge. Another source close to William says that one of the 'triggers' that 'really gets him' about Andrew is his uncle’s perceived 'ungracious and ungrateful' attitude towards his position, which William considers 'a risk' and 'threat to the family.'... One of Andrew’s problems is that he is not very popular. Mention his name in royal circles and courtiers roll their eyes. As one former aide explains: 'He’s not made any friends on the way up, so no one is helping him on the way down.' One Whitehall source describes him as 'a self-important bore.' A military source who has dealt with Andrew on several engagements does not mince words: 'I’ve got no time for Andrew. He’s a total dickhead, an arrogant shit.'"

“He’s a total dickhead. An arrogant shit.”

Such a great direct quote you hardly ever see anymore.

And it could be used to describe so many people in the news these days.

'[Prince] William is no fan of Uncle Andrew,'

Even though that line is from the London Times, it'd be nice if the US press would ditch the primitive British lingo and call these people "Mr. Louis" and "Mr. Edward".

There's a tower somewhere near London for that sort of thing.

Andy's only been doing what royals have been doing for centuries.

If Prince Andrew is removed from public life, will he even care?

Anonymous sources speaking ill of a rich celebrity undergoing public disgrace??!
Not one named source for even a single condemnation, in this entire post?
What does the Times think they're doing, posting comments on the internet?

What were these same people saying about the vile Andrew before the Epstein scandal broke?

The British have a tradition of drunken perverts as princes of Wales. George IV was the first of many.

A king in the making.

William has the institutional memory of the disgraceful conduct of his grandmother's uncle, who also became a non-person to the royal family.

In royals, those are features, not bugs ...

Who are these people, and why are they gossiping about their family like this?

Most assuredly! He'll be like Harry and dropped from the Royal payroll if he's not out representing the Crown.

andrew was always a joke (go back to the carson routines) but he wasn't obviously a criminal then, william does seem much more level headed

The Dukes of York have tended to be rotters. It's a title reserved for the second sons of British monarchs, so there are second-son psychological factors at play. Henry VIII was the Duke of York before he was king, as was Charles I, and James II. Georges V and VI were both Dukes of York. They were ok, but not inspiring, dull-witted nudniks, frankly. Apparently Andrew is hoping to outdo his Tudor predecessor in the arrogant sex manic field.

Just who are these Windsors, anyway? A bunch of dissolute Hanoverians, actually, who were pretty well played out when the unhappy Queen Anne finally kicked it. Nevertheless, one has to admit their genes are pretty strong -- no matter what outside line is introduced the basic Hanover dullard phenotype comes through, though by no means shining. They're not evil, just blah. If they were an American family, Andrew would be the guy at Home Depot who sells lawn tractors. He'd own the biggest, loudest Silverado diesel dually in town that would be frequently seen parked at the local titty bar.

Will the Brits accept the inevitable Charles III? One must assume they will, though they've seen off royal heirs and even entire dynasties in the past. Hell, there's a whole clan of genuine Plantagenets down in Oz with names like Mandy and Riley and Zack. Why all the fuss about the fakes ones?

If I were a PR consultant to Prince Andrew, I'd counsel him to change his pronouns. Coming out as a once and future Queen, (s)he'd instantly silence every critic in the English speaking world. A sex investigation of a person in transition; what could be more transphobic than that?

(S)he'd be promoted ahead of his mother, his brother and his nephews in the post-modern hierarchy. How dare these cis-gendered pretenders deny the crown to Queen Andrea the First LGBTQ Monarch? And the beauty part is that (s)he could be more of total dickhead and arrogant shit than ever.

I'll reserve judgement until I hear from Harry and Meghan how to think about this.

Kinda makes me wonder: Is Andrew a proxy for Harry? Seems like a shot over the bow. You don't have to be a "good" royal, but dare not be a "bad" royal. Anne was a source for indelicate tabloid items many years ago, but not so much now. Perhaps she had a chat with her sister.

If English society insists on sustaining the atavistic superstition that elevates one line of mammals above the general herd generation after generation, it is going to have embarrassments on a recurring basis, whether from poor boobies like Charles or from doltish boors like Andrew and Harry.

If Andrew were a Greek tragedy, then which one is it.

Perhaps (Princess Anne) had a chat with her sister.

@Scot, not sure to whom you refer. Princess Anne has no female siblings.

@NorthOfTheOneOhOne, Prince Andrew’s net worth is estimated to be $45 million. (Why this is reported in $US instead of £ I do not know.). At any rate he will not starve.

For the sake of a country I love, I sincerely hope Parliament skips Charles when Elizabeth dies.
