"After more than 1,300 years of living and intermarrying in China, Hui Muslims — who number about 10.5 million, less than 1% of China's population — have adjusted by becoming culturally and linguistically Chinese. They even made their version of Islam accessible to Confucians and Daoists — trying to show it as inherently Chinese and not a foreign influence — by adopting spiritual concepts and terms found in ancient Chinese philosophy to explain Islamic precepts.... The dome removal campaign has met with limited public resistance.... The Hui Muslims, for the most part, have accommodated the ever-changing cultural pressures around them. Yusuf, the Muslim owner of a store near the Dongguan Mosque [said]... 'Everything changes from one era to another. During Chairman Mao's time, they tore down all our mosques. Then they built them up. Now they are tearing them down again! Just follow whatever political slogan the country is yelling at the time.... To the average person, Chinese style, Arabic style... we don't care! Our faith does not exist in our buildings. It lies in our heart,' he says, thumping his chest emphatically."

The persecution of Christians in China has been persistent and ongoing for centuries, but nobody seemed to care until they started honing in on Muslims as well. Of course, nobody should be persecuted for their faith, but if you didn't care about Chinese Christians before, it's hypocritical to start caring about Chinese Muslims now.

I guess the Chinese will have to rip out their hearts.
Thou shalt have no other gods before Xi.
Progressives are trying to out Mao- Mao!!!
Nice of NPR to uncritically report what the Chinese government wants them to report.
They have the right idea...Europe take note...
NPR, always allowing the oppressed to revel joyfully in their misery. Did they see any piles of skulls, smiling skulls of course, from previous pogroms against the subjects of the CCP?

The operating principle driving the democraticals/LLR-lefties.
"NPR reports." I sincerely believe that at this point, NPR will "report" anything at all in accordance with its current funding stream and ideological makeup (not sure which of those comes first). Bleh.
Another example of why the Left/progressive/Democrat cabal is attracted to the “China way”. They are not only loving globalism, but also China. There is tremendous personal benefit from there anti-American policies. But corruption is not new to the Democrat party, or to the corrupt enablers of China rising.
It would take a very few changes to make this article about Seattle or Portland or nearly any college town.
