A senior official of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan, who spoke on the condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, confirmed that the Taliban had taken over. 'Yes, Panjshir has fallen. Taliban took control of government offices. Taliban fighters entered into the governor’s house,' the person said."

There are also conflicting reports of 4 or 6 airplanes sitting on the tarmac at Mazar-i-Sharif airport. The reports say the planes are filled with Afghans and Americans who want to leave. Or...who don't want to leave (depending on who you listen to). Other reports say that the Taliban has not stopped the planes, which are privately run (since our Government decided to just leave people there). That report says that our State Department is holding up the flights, not letting them take off.
I guess our State Dept. seems to think that national security counts sometimes, and only sometimes for certain planes coming out of Afghanistan. But not for other times with other planes coming from the same place. And certainly national security is not considered on our actual border where millions are just walking in.
Nice country. Would be a shame to lose it.

Also, Panhshir was the location of what was left of the Northern Alliance. That is who the Taliban went immediately to dismember. Because they remember, it was the Northern Alliance who could have beat them back in 2000 and 2001, if the US had not abandoned the NA at that time.

How does the State Department keep them from taking off? Seems the only way is to threaten the government(s) of the planes' first stops.
