Here's my post from June 24, 2020 about the toppling of 2 important (and progressive) statues during protest riots in our city.
And here's my post from yesterday with a photograph of the other statue, of Hans Christian Heg, on the other side of the square. The Heg statue is especially meaningful to me because Meade tended to it on 3 different occasions during the Wisconsin Uprising of 2011: 3/2/11, 3/13/11, and 3/21/11 (video by me at those links).

Progressives just show how ignorant they actually are when they destroy public property that honors THEM.
Taking statues down and then putting them back up—this is normally what happens when things go back and forth in war, yes? I hadn’t fully appreciated the gravity of the situation in Madison.
In the game against Notre Dame on Saturday, the Badgers had the word "Forward" on their helmets.
That's the dictator hailing a cab pose.
Now that we have seen the direction Progressives are leading us to, shouldn't Madison citizens demand that the title of the statue be changed? The honesty of Back! might at least appease the rage of the the primitives, preventing further desecrations.
At some point people will realize the democrat/progressive goal is to turn the US into a third world country.
All you have to do to make that happen is let the animals loose.
Our society is very fragile.
Most moves "Forward" will not be good. The steps toward building a free society have to be measured and calculated.
Thank God anti-progress prevailed and progressive destruction has been reversed.

Did Notre Dame's helmets say: HOLD THE LINE ??
Progressives chant "FORWARD" as they take the country BACKWARDS.
As an old fervent fan of Firesign Theater, I cannot help but think of the phrase "Forward into the Past" whenever I hear of the next 'progressive' idea for society. Or when I read about the Forward statue in Madison.
How appropriate that those clamoring for moving forward, tore down the stature, and by their actions show they are thinking backward. I don't think 'progressive' means what they think it means.
Hurting statues is more egregious than killing and marginalizing people because feelings are the most fragile lynchpin of the Trumpers psyche.
Heil, Biden!
I see the statue toppling as a practice run for killing legislators, or worse, normal citizens, by a readily-led woke mob. The sooner someone stops these shenanigans by providing extremely negative consequences for the mob's actions, and even stronger consequences for the instigators and leaders of the woke mob, the better for everyone. Otherwise, it will be quite a surprise for a lot of people when the woke mob is stopped, finally, by use of force.
"In the game against Notre Dame on Saturday, the Badgers had the word "Forward" on their helmets."
...so they didn't wear them backwards.
When you wrote, "Here's my pose from June 24, 2020...," I was expecting to see you, Professor, on the pedestal as the Forward figure or at least a pigeon.
Pillories were an effective punishment for drunkards and the disorderly. They were banned during the Enlightenment as unfit instruments for the regulation of a civilized community. In the case of Madison, unfortunately, the patina has worn too thin for the adjective to be applied with a straight face. The sight of dozens of "mostly peaceful protestors" shackled to a bench exposed to weather and the jeers yokels armed with rotten fruit would go far to restoring Wisconsin's lost face.
It won't happen, of course. Wisconsinites are too civilized (i.e. timid) to oppose the destructive elements in their midst with enough vigor and severity to even discourage let alone prevent more rioting and vandalism. The Black Block is laughing at you, Wisconsin.
