Robert Marshall said...: Staghorn sumac, I believe. We have lots of that in NE Georgia, too, including on the banks of our Lake Burton. One of our first fall colors, after the dogwoods. Fruit is edible, tart and fruity-tasting (or so the Farmers Almanac says).

As my whimsy leads me.. said...: Just wondering—Do you and Meade pronounce sumac the same? Do you say SOO-mack or SHOO-mack? I’ve wondered about the geography of the pronunciation. There aren’t many su- words that are pronounced “sh.” Sugar is one, although the vowel is a little different.

I first encountered the word in the movie “Heartbreak Ridge”, where it was used by Clint Eastwood’s marine NCO character. In that military context it seemed derived from the idea of cluster-bomblet munitions. It would be a big fuck-up, dispersing dozens of little fucklets far and wide, to then wreak their mischief. The 50-100 right wing people will get attacked, bullied, and leave early.

The 2500 will stand around for a while, and then not wanting to have got all dressed up for nothing, they will start rioting, looting, and attacking police.

The media will blame the 50-100 right wing people for the chaos. Biden and Kamala will come out and blame the right and call Republicans white supremacists. One 'positive' is whoever is running things believes public perception and opinion still matter. Apparently they don't have the election fraud monopoly as wrapped up as they'd like...

...and I suppose with Biden it's the first time the US has had a constitutional monarch, a powerless figurehead while others do the dirty work. Massachusetts has been run this way for at least 40 years.
