"Milley, for his part, took what the authors describe as a deferential approach to Biden on Afghanistan, in contrast to his earlier efforts to constrain Trump."

"The book reveals recent remarks the chairman delivered to the Joint Chiefs in which he said, 'Here’s a couple of rules of the road here that we’re going to follow. One is you never, ever ever box in a president of the United States. You always give him decision space.' Referring to Biden, he said, 'You’re dealing with a seasoned politician here who has been in Washington, D.C., 50 years, whatever it is.' His decision just months earlier to place himself between Trump and potential war was triggered by several important events — a phone call, a photo op and a refusal to rule out war with another adversary, Iran. The immediate motivation, according to the book, was the Jan. 8 call from Pelosi, who demanded to know, 'What precautions are available to prevent an unstable president from initiating military hostilities or from accessing the launch codes and ordering a nuclear strike?' Milley assured her that there were 'a lot of checks in the system.' The call transcript obtained by the authors shows Pelosi telling Milley, referring to Trump, 'He’s crazy. You know he’s crazy. … He’s crazy and what he did yesterday is further evidence of his craziness.' Milley replied, 'I agree with you on everything.'"

THIS was the REAL Coup. This was treason, and Nancy was in on it. Do we still hang people for Treason?? We need to. It is time that actions have consequences. THIS is why we have political prisoners...Nancy was hiding her role in the REAL Coup....Why do you think they are pushing 1/6 so much???

The way the departure from Afghanistan was handled pretty clearly demonstrates Milley's ability to accurately "read" a situation.

So, the Chain of Command, for America goes
Top General
Top Democrat Politician

Trump didn't realize this (or, DID realize this chain of command, but wanted to overthrow it?)

This is what happens when people in power believe the propaganda intended for the lumpenproles. Pelosi is too old, same as Biden. The difference is that people in Washington are still scared of Pelosi.

I bet Milley himself was the source for this story. Deep weasel.

Does underbussing Milley also underbus Pelosi? She declined more security of the Capital on Jan 6 due to the optics that that would present, so this call to Milley may have been a cya move on her part, in order to embellish Trump as a crazy insurrectionist. She wrote to her colleagues about this call at the time.

There have been two coups in the last 18 months. The first, with General Milley, working with top Democrats and our national security apparatus to thwart President Trump on numerous ends, both domestically and in foreign policy. Milley has no purview over the areas he and they worked on. On Milley's working with Pelosi and Schumer to thwart the President, this is not even conjecture. This is known.

What we don't know is if Milley actually spoke with his Chinese counterpart to work against the sitting President. Two things to say about this. One- Woodward has been right...and wrong about big stories in the past. So has Robert Costa. I take nothing from our Journalists! as gospel these days. This story needs to be verified. Two- this is such a huge story, involving Treason (with a capital 'T') from the Head of the Joint Chiefs and the Speaker of the House, that I would think Costa and Woodward had to think long and hard, confirm as much as they could, before going with this.

I said there were two coups. The other was the 2020 election. And if you don't think these same people who would do what we've seen them do just over the past few years, would not have worked to rig an election, I'd love to sell you some beachfront property in Iceland.

Where are we, America? Where is our dogged press, our guardians against the destruction of a free people? Party uber alles?

For anyone in the executive branch to refuse to carry out the orders of the President is really, really bad and much more so when that person is a general, for obvious reasons.

It's not treason, though, you could just as applicably call it "kidnapping" or "murder" as you could call it treason. The President is not the Crown. Under our law treason has a very specific definition, also for obvious reasons.

Can Milley pass a sanity test? He seems a bit paranoid to me. And Pelosi is as beautiful as she is wise.

Apparently Woodward and his ilk thought this would sink Trump. It looks to me like Milley and Pelosi are being fitted up for the flaming necklace. A story last night said the White House is leaking against Milley.

It's been instructive over the past few years to learn how many of our leaders are skilled bureaucrats who absolutely panic when the unexpected happens. We saw it when McCain suspended his campaign in 2008 and declared that the stock market drop meant that the world was ending. We saw it with Comey, when he spun like a top over Clinton's insecure private email system, lied to Trump, and then deliberately leaked classified information. Now - if true - we see it with Milley, running for comfort to his adversaries, because he understands the system better than his mission.

Again, I don't hear any disavows from General MiLady. Milly supposedly warned the Chinese that he would inform them of any Attacks ordered by Trump BEFORE they were launched. Milly supposedly told his subordinates that any nuclear weapons order from Trump would have to go through him.

One of trump's quirks is his love for Ivy Leaguers. He seems to have chosen Milly partly because he went to Princeton and NOT West Point or VMI. In any case, he chose the most unfit Chairman of the JCS, ever. Like Comey, this mediocre clown didn't know his place and had delusions of grandeaur. Biden needs to do the right thing and fire him. You cant' have Generals who don't respect the chain of command and civilian authority. That's just civics 101.

rcocean said...

Pelosi by constantly calling Trump "crazy" and insisting he MIGHT launch a war/nuclear attack just shows how insane she is. Trump has been our most peaceful POTUS. In fact, he refused to do an airstrike against Iran because too many innocent people would be killed. And he was upset with the JCS ordered an airstrike in Syria without his permission.

Its much more likely that Biden, Obama, or Bush would order an attack out of "crazziness". Biden approved a drone stike that killed a family in Afghanistan and Clinton bombed an Aspirin factory. And Bush, killed hundereds of thousands.

Anybody besides me think it’s a good idea to keep your adversaries guessing about your intentions towards them? I think a world where every adversary has to consider the possibility of war with the United States is a more rational world than one where our adversaries can calibrate what we will and won’t do in response to provocations.

The corruption of our present regime is pretty obvious, from the incompetence of the Afghan bugout to the ending of our energy independence. The political class has lost what used to be some basic competence to run things. Now, they are all grifters with a couple of exceptions like Rand Paul and Ted Cruz.

I would be hopping aboard the treason express here except for two things:

1. Bob Woodward is far from reliable

2. Trump, in 4 years, did nothing but draw down military conflict. The idea the joint chief saw him as a crazy, unstable, warmongerer who wanted armed conflict with China is the exact PERCEPTION democrats spent 4.5 years painting Trump as despite no actual evidence of it when he was in command. So why would Milley suddenly conduct himself treasonously in these final days against a sitting President whose literal moves were to avoid conflict with places like Syria and Iran through strong statement moves (i.e. precision airstrike against Khomeini, bombing of Syrian airbases). I think Rich Grennell posed the same questions/challenges.

3. This story is eminently confirmable and reportable and yet has been saved for a book publication FOR MONEYYYYYYYYY. When people are reporting the biggest bombshells via book publication, they aren't doing it because it's a verified bombshell ready to take down 2+ major figures on our national stage. They are doing it FOR MONEYYYYYYYYY.

And those are just my top 3 reasons for looking at this and going,

Pfft. Fake news.

Lurker21 said...

That Pelosi would call Trump crazy in a private is probably the most believable thing in the whole story. And it's also probably the nicest thing she says about him.

Milley, I'm told, was not the head of the military. He was rather, the top advisor to the president, who as commander-in-chief is the highest order-giver. Milley could tell the president that he wouldn't comply with an order and resign, but it wasn't up to him to set up what amounts to an alternative government.

Milley reminds me of the political generals who gave Lincoln so much trouble. It seems like he got where he is because of his political views. It was actually Donald Trump who overrode recommendations and put him at the top of the Joint Chiefs, though. Not a good decision on Trump's part, but the alternative candidate may not have been much better. It looks like Milley being in a photo of Trump going to St. John's Church opposite the White House after protestors had been cleared rubbed a lot of the military the wrong way.

I could have told the president that a guy from Belmont Hill School and Princeton probably wouldn't be the best head of the Joint Chiefs. Milley may look like Curtis LeMay, but he's a very different character.

FAKE NEWS? Bob Woodward Has A Trail Of Accuracy Issues That Nobody Is Talking About

Peter Hanson, Daily Caller, September 12, 2018

'...A bombshell claim in “Veil,” Woodward’s 1987 book on the CIA, has long been a source of controversy.

Woodward claimed in the book that he was the sole witness to a dramatic deathbed confession from former CIA Director William Casey.

Casey, as he lay dying in Georgetown University hospital, jerked up in bed and confessed to Woodward that he knew about the Reagan-era Iran-Contra deal, Woodward claimed.

“People close to Casey at the time said he couldn’t even speak, much less jerk his head up. They said details of Woodward’s account, such as the positioning of Casey’s hospital bed, did not even remotely match Woodward’s description. Casey’s daughter said the encounter never happened,” Tod Robberson, now an editor at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, wrote in a 2013 Dallas Morning News column.

“Kevin Shipp, who served in Casey’s security detail at the hospital, wrote in 2010 that there were security guards at Casey’s door 24/7, and nobody got past without their approval. Woodward tried to get in, but he was turned away, Shipp stated. Woodward disputes the 24/7 claim,” Robberson noted.

The Casey dispute made a Politico list of six “Bob Woodward controversies” in 2012.'

On the face of it, a lot of this stuff that Woodward reports in his new book about Trump seems downright ludicrous.

But the truth will come out in the wash (after Congressional investigations).

However, the longer that General Milley refuses to respond to the bombshell allegations about his contacts with the Chinese, the more likely the allegations are true.

Look, you either believe in civilian control of the military or you don't. Telling generals they have to obey the orders of elected officials over them, unless the elected official really sucks and the generals would probably make much better judgment calls, is calling for a military dictatorship.

If we get into the madman theory – suppose a president simply snapped and ordered an unprovoked nuclear launch – the safeguards fall under "Hidden Law," and that's all I have to say about that. Let's just say the only mitigating circumstance I would accept is, "Well, I definitely saved the world, as no reasonable person could dispute."

Joe Smith said...

'The system worked. Crisis averted.'

No, the system is to invoke the 25th amendment, not to go rogue.

If Milley felt that he could not obey a presidential order, then the honorable thing to do was to resign.

Milley is an egomaniacal social climber and a politician wearing khaki...nothing more.

That's three things, not two. To address each:
1: Milley gave a "non-denial denial". You only do that when the story's essentially true

2: Trump, in four years, did nothing but hurt the rice bowls of corrupt Generals who were looking forward to board positions on the companies they sent gov't contracts to, contracts that were decreased because of Trump dialing things back.
The "Trump is a madman" story is the cover story, not the true story. The true story is that Milley and co hate Trump for having their corrupt gravy train, and saw a way to strike back at him

3: See Milley's "non-denial denial".

Compare Milley's "non-denial denial" to Trump's actual denial of the "suckers and losers" claim. Trump's version is what you do if you're actually not guilty
