"It's been more than 5 months since NYT reported Matt Gaetz was 'under investigation' for sex with an underage girl."

"Maybe one day he'll be charged, but leaking the existence of investigations without charges is a crime for a reason: destroys reputations with no chance of defense."

Often that’s the plan.

Richard Jewell, RIP.

Does he update the current situation of that event?

It is not looking good for the people who made the "accusations."

The media are just propaganda.

They are evil people that also attack underage people to push their agendas.

It is interesting that Althouse relies on the most dishonest outlets possible for grist.

I noticed (on twitter) they just indicted someone for trying to extort Mr. Gaetz.

This is how Democrats work. Gaetz was becoming a loud, brash pain in their ass. They wanted to shut him up. They did that. Now they've been working on Gov. DeSantis, floating all kinds of articles by their media division all over the country. They are already working on building a base of Democrats around the nation who hate DeSantis and know almost nothing about him. They're working on the independents with this tack. And it'll have some impact, though probably not as much with DeSantis as they hope. He's a pretty smart guy and a good counterpuncher.

The other thing Dems do is use the government bureaucracies to 'leak' things to their party-owned media when needed. Obama's team did it for 8 years. Even brought in the IRS to do some of their dirty work. And of course, they did it for four years during Trump, using every department in the government. And though this sort of stuff is illegal and everyone sees it, no one does anything about it. The guilty smile at the cameras, get a slot on Jimmy Kimmel, and a book contract, then move on to their next position in government.

I honestly don't know if we have anything other than grifters in DC.

I heard a rumor that Gaetz is also a Russian asset. Heard on Ried-Maddow-Prog-annon.

Greenwald got famous for publishing Snowden’s leaks.

It’s a bit pot/kettle for him to criticize other publishers of leaks.

What was most interesting about this obvious media/DOJ deep staters hit on Gaetz was how all the Over The Top Pro-Lincoln Pedophile Project fanboys, in particular our own pro-marxist LLR Chuck at Althouse blog, were pushing this story like there was no tomorrow.

Similar to how the all the biggest "#MeToo-ers" and biggest "male feminists" turned out to be the biggest misogynist abusers of women.

Not surprising at all.

Not in the least.

What is the difference between leaking a truth those in power are trying to hide and leaking a lie on behalf of those in power trying to destroy an individual?

Apparently nothing!

Carry on then.

Every story that I have seen has faithfully and accurately reported that Gaetz’s disreputable wingman has been investigated, charged and is engaged in plea/sentencing negotiations. And I presume that there are lots and lots of private lawyers willing to leak the information in their legal possession.

I see no illegality in that.

I also see no reason why a newspaper with confirmable information in that regard wouldn’t publish it.

And most importantly, it seems that Greenwald is complaining purely about the propriety of publication. He’s not saying that any of the reporting was incorrect.

Drago said...

There is simply no way around the now clearly established fact that the entire federal establishment/government and most state governments are completely, and irrevocably, an action arm of the democratical party and where that fact has led us, and where it will inevitably lead us, is almost too alarming to contemplate.

I complain on your reading comprehension. Greenwald wasn't dissing leaks, even if the word "leak" did appear in his tweet.

This is the science that explains why we’re so polarized as a country, why it feels as if people are living in side-by-side realities. Fear is the emotional basis for many of our “rational” stances and decisions—... This science is a mechanism by which we could admit when we’re wrong and start to come out of delusions—and that reconciliation is what has to happen for democracy to continue here....

But delusions and fear are effective tools. The media makes shit up, sends it out to the masses to delude them which gets them all afraid. Hard for these people to come out of their delusions when they willingly consume the blue pill every day. Given what David Brooks has implied, our democracy is truly screwed.

Pretty sure non-grifters are thin on the ground in DC. Of both parties. Trump showed us that.

Agreed, but I spent an unpleasant and unprofessional (on his part, and not directed at me) political evening with Gaetz in 2012 in his district, and he’s garbage. Showed up hours late, took us for dinner to some place one step up from a titty bar, and hit on college girls. The rest of the adults and I were utterly disgusted. Nobody acts that way. Not anymore, and not in front of strangers, at least. Bad taste and worse judgment.

And Townhall.com is reporting that, "Matt Gaetz Exonerated from 'Pile of Lies' After Man Charged with Extortion" (https://townhall.com/tipsheet/katiepavlich/2021/09/01/matt-gaetz-exonerated-after-man-charged-with-extortion-n2595102).

Here's the indictment: https://www.justice.gov/usao-ndfl/press-release/file/1429001/download

I'm not sure that the indictment explicitly clears Gaetz, but the fact that this person has been indicted for extorting him and that this exactly corroborates what Gaetz said when this news item came out...

It simply doesn't matter. The drones of the Left will never read about the exoneration, and if you try to tell them about it, they'll call you a liar.

Tell them the truth about Hunter's laptop.

Tell them the truth about Gaetz.

Tell them the truth about Russian collusion

They don't care, and are more than willing to swallow the next lie. It's simple tribalism compounded by Marxism

He's a Horrible Republican; the sort that loves America
You can see why that would bother Chuck

"And most importantly, it seems that Greenwald is complaining purely about the propriety of publication. He’s not saying that any of the reporting was incorrect."

He doesn't have to. The federal prosecutor who indicted his accuser said it for him when he charged “Stephen M. Alford did knowingly and willfully devise, and intent to devise, a scheme to defraud and for obtaining money and property by means of material false and fraudulent pretenses, representations, and promises, and for the promise of executing such scheme, did cause, and attempt to cause, a wire communication to be transmitted in interstate commerce,” This indictment essentially confirms what Gaetz said to Axios months ago.

Imagine, Chuck continuing to smear the Republican victim of a Democrat political hit job. And him supposedly an officer of the court. I wonder if the OED defines "shyster" with a picture of Chuck instead of a verbal definition.

The libel laws need to be strengthened. If they leak that someone is under investigation and that person later turns out to cleared, isn't news of that leak defamatory? Doesn't the injured party deserve some kind recompense?.....We have established that Gaetz takes a lively interest in sex. I have a low, intuitive sense that he doesn't differ in this regard from several of his Democratic counterparts, but that the media covers up for them with the same assiduity and zest with which they reported on Gaetz's love life. The media were to some degree complicit in this shake down scheme.

Pro-marxist LLR Chuck: "You guys sure have adopted some weird dudes as leaders and heroes."

Leftist/LLR-leftist Smear Playbook:

Leftist (like LLR Chuck) attempts to extort republican lawmaker and his family with lies cooked up by deep state buddies.

Leftists (like LLR Chuck) get lefties in the DOJ to leak that there is an investigation "involving" republican lawmaker in some sordid shenanigans.....being quite careful to not reveal that its not actually the republican that is the one being investigated.

Leftists in the media and on blogs, like pro-marxist LLR Chuck at Althouse blog who has just recently vociferously defended pedophiles at the Lincoln Man-Boy Project, makes fun of the republican lawmaker based on these obvious lefty lies.

Leftist (like LLR Chuck) gets exposed and indicted for said extortion attempt which exonerates the falsely accused republican lawmaker.

Pro-marxist LLR Chuck looks around and then sheepishly kicks at the dirt and declares everyone who noticed the left wing smear job are followers of a new "hero".

This has been pro-marxist and strong democratical defender LLR Chuck's modus operandi here at Althouse blog for 6 years now, which Chuck has explicitly and proudly admitted on multiple occasions.

Discuss.

Chuck, we don't like to see government law enforcement agencies smear people. I know that is hard for you to grok, but that is our position. I would feel this way even if Gaetz were not a Republican, and I don't care if he is a self-serving clown to boot. If the FBI leaked it out that you were under investigation for pedophilia, I would oppose that, too, were it untrue- I would oppose such a leak even if it were true- there is no place in a proper government for such leaking. "Either indict or shut the fuck" up is the rule and it is no longer followed by anyone if the defendant is a Republican.
